"The waiter was attentive and friendly, which made for a pleasant experience. For my appetizer, I ordered the crab cakes. They were tasty, though the texture was different from what I’m used to back home in the States. It seemed like there was more of the binding agent (perhaps flour and egg), making them denser and more cohesive than the typical crab cakes, which often fall apart easily. For my main course, I had the steak pie, and it was exquisite. The meat was tender and practically fell apart with the slightest touch. The accompanying vegetable mix was fantastic, including carrots, snap peas, and possibly parsnips. The snap peas were cooked to perfection—hot throughout but still crunchy and slightly sweet. I didn’t finish my steak pie, not because I didn’t enjoy it, but because it was so hearty and filling that I wanted to leave room for dessert. And what a dessert it was! I hadn’t heard of Jaffa cakes before, and I mistakenly imagined a cake and ice cream dessert similar to what you would find in the States. Instead, what I received was quite different. Jaffa cakes are essentially small wafer cookies with chocolate on one side. My dessert was a sundae made with Irn Bru ice cream, drizzled with chocolate syrup, and topped with broken Jaffa wafer cookies. I was the last customer to finish my meal and nearly the last to pay. Unfortunately, the payment machine was acting up and declined several times. The staff took the classic IT approach and rebooted the machine, which fixed the problem, and I was able to settle my bill. I didn’t catch their names, but the two team members working the closing shift were delightful and shared a wonderful sense of humor; we were joking as if we were old friends. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at The Ship, and I highly recommend you check it out. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to the area and another meal there!"

I had a delightful lunch with my daughter and daughter-in-law today. The food was wonderful, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and nice. Even Dougal, my little dog, enjoyed the steak pie! Thank you for a lovely meal; I would highly recommend it! xx

I wish there were more dog-friendly places like this! We have three dogs of different sizes, and when we requested a bowl of water for them, the staff was more than happy to provide it. The food is absolutely amazing, and the staff is very friendly. If you're in Irvine, I highly recommend this pub, even if you don't have a dog. Its dog-friendly atmosphere definitely earns my endorsement!
