"went midweek and the pub was pretty busy so it is worth booking in advance. eating was okay. I had the black and black pudding burger, the tasty and a good portion size, price to about £16. my partner had the chicken and lauch cake that was not so good. it was boiled to the house, but seemed to have been heated again, as the baked was hard and the sauce was a little dry. I think that was about £16. we had to start the baked camembert, which was perfect. we did not dissert because we ate our full, and despite the dead we enjoyed the evening. the service was very good and the team friendly and helpful. I would imagine if my partner had mentioned the easy problem with the cake, it would have been sorted quickly. She said it was delicious."

after our visit to the wild park near to the drink stopped and stopped for lunch. beautiful rustic pub, fair selection of drinks including local breweries and eating was delicious. the staff was courteous and we managed to sit even though they were busy. a good local pub cannot beat. View menu

Dropped in for Sunday lunch while visiting the area. The staff where very helpful and friendly as my wife is gluton free. Food was excellent and some nice cask ales on tap. I would certainly recommend this pub to anyone and I will be visiting it again when we are up in the area again.

the personal was amazing, the place was clean and welcoming, and eating was absolutely delicious! Definitiw a worthwhile stop for everyone after a dead bite to eat in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. the local ales are delicious, and the menu offers for everyone from carnivore to vegan, great spread!

Just enjoyed great fish and chips (our Friday night tradition). Fish is cooked in beer batter light and crispy, not at all oily (which is sometimes the case these days). Served with chunky chips and garden peas. Has to be the best we've had for a long time. Add to this friendly staff and a good selection of beers and you come away feeling that you've had a good night out. Thank you The Sun Inn. View menu

Stayed nearby so very handy for Sunday Birthday lunch. We'll worth a visit. Big car park across the lane. Outdoor seating with great view. Inside is a classic pub. Spacious and full of character. Sunday lunch was great and considering the struggles hospitality has suffered, very reasonable for 5 people. Attentive service. Can't fault them. Dogs allowed and tourist, walkers and family friendly. Recommended.

it must be 35-40 years since I visited the sun inn in bassenthwaite and I must say that I was not disappointed. a beautiful pub in just as beautiful environment. an extensive menu is available and I found the Steak Pie very nice to be in the did. also the beautiful selection of ales, the cumberland ale complicated the cake very well. a great stop-off point for traveling and wandering alike. in any case recommend.

"I would have loved to rate our dining experience at the Ivy House a lot higher but we were to leave somewhat disappointed. The dining area was pleasant and intimate with well appointed decor, the waitress and waiters pleasant, polite and attentive. The varied menu looked very appetising with most tastes catered for. We chose two courses from the main menu, the Duck Breast and a Fish Dish for myself. Contrary to other reviews we were to wait over 40 minutes before the food was presented to us. We were not advised of any delays or even the expected length of time we might have to wait. The food on arrival was well presented and flavoursome although I did not consider two small stem broccoli spears a serving. I also asked the waiter why there was no Samphire to accompany my dish as stated on the menu, this comment was also reinforced by a fellow diner who ate the same dish just prior to me. The waiter advised me that he would ask the chef. I did not receive a response to my question during further table service and subsequently asked the waiter again. On returning the waiter advised me the chef said “he will try to remember to put it on next time”, a somewhat disrespectful comment. The Cheese platter we were presented with was lacklustre and sparse, quince jelly and a small dish of chutney being the predominant feature. For ourselves we did not feel that our dining experience represented good value for money."
