"Went here with my family for dinner to celebrate passing my degree and wow it was a let down. First of all the service was just so slow. It wasn’t even massively busy but we just seemed to be waiting and waiting to order and then be served which wasn’t good for rumbling tummies! I also felt that the food was overpriced. £16 for a vegan Sri Lankan curry (which we noted was the same price as the chicken Sri Lankan curry which was swimming in grease (see photo and came with a little pot of rice and naan (GF bread for my mum is just crazy expensive. To compare, I just wrote a review for an Indian restaurant where I had the best curry of my life and £15.99 gets you poppadom and 5 vegan condiments, a starter, a curry and a rice/vegan(! naan which were all amazing and the portion sizes were huge enough to take leftovers home and have for dinner the next day! By contrast, we left the white horse having spent lots on very little and feeling rather dissatisfied. I had the harissa nut roast, which was a more imaginative main and nice enough but nothing to write home about. To make it vegan, you have to forgo the tzatziki sauce as well, which is the case with a number of the mains (only 2 are vegan as is, the rest are lumped within the vegetarian options . The sweet potatoes fries were good, but not exactly something special to the white horse!! My mum had the Sri Lankan curry which she said was “virtually inedible” due to the amount of oil swimming on it. She actually had to use a spoon and napkin to remove the worst of it off the top. It really was an unbelievable amount!! My dad had the meat free linguine bolognese. It was nice enough but mostly pasta, again a bit greasy and nothing special (there was nothing really in the bolognese except vegan mince and tomatoes . £14 for it was an absolute rip off for what you get, especially since he can make a much MUCH nicer one with red wine, mushrooms and garlic etc at home! He also cooks his with no oil, so it really isn’t necessary for the food to be that level of greasy! My omni sister and her fiancé had plenty of meat/fish options which seemed to be much more worth the price and just more... imaginative. Overall we felt the white horse’s vegan offerings were overpriced, overly greasy and unimaginative. We will not be returning. NB. The description above with vegan burger, vegan sausages and mash etc is outdated IG: pulsesandplants Updated from previous review on 2021 05 30"

The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere. The food was average. The starter platter was enjoyable, but the main dishes were not very good.

Great choice of veggie vegan options. I had the vegan summer harvest bowl and coconut sorbet for dessert. It was all delicious. They also do other sorbet flavours and a fruit salad.

The worst dining experience I can remember. Ordered our food by 7.45 and by 9.45 we hadn't had our main course, nor was it near coming to the table. It was then too late to eat, so we gave up. Suggest you avoid this place like the plague.

This is a quality country pub, great location, lovely garden. Food is normally good but can be a bit slow at busy times. They seem to have reduced their food prices a bit, in line with the local competition. Drinks Are a bit steep though.

I dine at this restaurant every time I visit England, I absolutely adore the cozy pub atmosphere. My favorite dish is the Butternut Squash Wellington, and the apple crumble with ice cream is the best dessert I have ever had. The staff is very friendly and the overall atmosphere is pleasant.

A first-rate Sunday lunch to catch up with friends. Great selection of roasts, recommend the 'trio of meats ' and the butternut squash, lentil almond wellington. There are also burger, sandwich fish options available. Puds are lovely if you can fit them in! Prompt, friendly service, despite being fully booked very busy. Highly recommended but do book to avoid disappointment.

We had an amazing meal at the restaurant on Sunday. I ordered a vegan wellington parcel filled with lentils and other delicious ingredients, which was surprisingly tasty. It was served with all the accompaniments one could have hoped for, including potatoes and even Yorkshire pudding. Despite it being a challenge, I managed to finish it all and left with a full belly, feeling extremely satisfied. Next time, I'll remember to take a photo as well!

Great country pub with a lush garden in the back. Lunch..beer....ducks and geese outside plodding about......it's a gem to relax in especially if you are normally accustomed to more urban surroundings. There are a number of pubs in the area and I return here time and time again. I've organised several large group lunches here and always had a very good experience. Food is consistently excellent , with a seasonal menu updated frequently. Prices are reasonable and they usually have a delicious little variety of ales and lagers on offer. Aside from the lovely English garden al fresco dining, the service is simply great. This place cares about the customer and it shows. Staff are friendly withou...

When I used to live nearby this was one of my favourite pubs. I would go there regularly for drinks, the lovely garden and lunches. Notwithstanding the local residents, many of whom are multi-millionaires, this pub appears to have become overly pretentious but the food quality has gone downhill, the menu isn’t as good as it used to be and most items, for example, a chicken ciabatta for £14, are grossly overpriced. There really wasn’t a good selection at all for people wanting a lighter or healthier option and I do not believe well over £20 is a fair price for the average main in a typical pub. The Piedra Tempranillo, while seemingly good value at £6.75 for a large glass was actually poor val...
