"My first visit to Vel was for the buffet breakfast on a Sat in Dec. Suffice it to say, I left 'very ' unimpressed with 'no ' desire to return. However, decided to give the place another go and try their weekend lunch. I was pleasantly surprised! There was a wait for the food to be served but once done, it was a welcoming and tasteful experience to tuck into. The chicken biriyani is definitely worth a try! Nice 'ooru ' taste. I most certainly did enjoy my lunch on the afternoon and would recommend the lunch buffet for those looking for a nice South Indian meal. Worth a try! I did return to try the breakfast once more on being told it was under new management now, Feb onwards. The chutneys could certainly improve in flavour but overall it was enjoyable! Certainly room for improvement. The coffee served me for whatever reason had a burnt and a bitter taste to it but I enjoyed the tea tho ' I 'd have preferred it a lot stronger. Spoke with the Manager, Vignesh who was pleasant and polite. If they hone in on their customer service as also provide authentic South Indian dishes, they will do well as they are in a prime location for those looking for some 'ooru sappadu '."

We went in a big group this time, must say Vignesh and team has never disappointed us. Had very authentic South Indian food and the crew as always was very courteous and impeccable.

Decent place with minimum variety of lunch buffet but I found the food (biryani) as very dry. Chef and manager were quiet attentive and requested feedback for improvement. Hopefully it gets better and bigger in future.

Their food quality is getting poor day by day. Took takeaway, Dosa was all burnt, sweet Manchurian. When I called to speak to manager to show him images of dosa, staff said he is too busy as there is party going on. Absolutely rubbish.

We took a buffet on Sunday. For 5 pounds it's the best you can get. It's south Indian Tamil style. The rice sambar rasam are decent even chapatis were good to my surprise. Curry's and dessert could be better. Buttermilk was the highlight.

I can confidently say that this restaurant is a hidden gem in Reading. The staff is incredibly welcoming and always greets you with a smile. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the food is top-notch and consistently fresh. I'm a big fan of their breakfast buffet. I highly recommend it!

We go most Saturdays now for the buffet...its gone up in price to 7£, best of all 3.50£ for kids, you can't beat that price in Reading. Dosa, about a dozen different dishes, chutneys, and great chai! Kids love to watch them cook from the large window and they eat everything put in front of them. Staff are friendly and we usually get free parking somewhere nearby, beats going into town.

I recently had the weekend lunch buffet and I highly recommend it! The variety of unlimited food is fantastic for just £9 per person. There are plenty of vegetarian options, but my personal favorite was the chili chicken. The restaurant was quite busy, yet the staff did an excellent job of replenishing the dishes and were very friendly, checking in to see how we were enjoying the food. I will definitely be back!

I visited this restaurant about two years ago, and today I returned for lunch with my parents. It's now under new management, and the food was fantastic—very close to authentic South Indian homemade cooking. The customer service was excellent, especially with a friendly conversation with Vignesh and Chef Dharma. The lovely lady who served the food was exceptionally friendly and caring. I would definitely recommend this restaurant this time around.

Incompetent staff, extremely slow service, asked for raita to have with biryani, never arrived untill food finished. waitress said they are making it now, I said, Don 't bother, I have eaten my food. Biryani overpriced, microwaved , so not fresh. £13 for biryani is extortion. Dosa hard, thick. List goes on n on.. Small advice: please do not come here, your money will be wasted and you will regret it. Other dosa place in Reading is much better. If I had option, I would have given zero or minus rating. Find better place to spend your hard earned money.
