"My wife and I picked this place after reading reviews from last year. Apparently, this place is either under new management or has been remodeled including a new menu. (An English version is in the works). Many of the things mentioned in the reviews were not available. That made us let the waitress make recommendations. She did very well. We started with the Flamm Munster which was like nothing I have ever had but very good. My wife had the Spargelrolle (asparagus and ham wrapped in a crepe with hollandaise sauce) and it was delicious. I had the Angus Rumpsteak which came with a great fresh salad and fries. The steak was marinated in olive oil and spices( gave it a different flavor that I had had before but very good) and was cooked perfectly (med rare as requested). The staff spoke good English and were very attentive and excited that we enjoyed the food so much. Would return. Spent about 50 Euro total with drinks..water and soda."

Had a great dinner here for the five of us, sitting outside on a hot summer's night, refreshed by some nice cold local beer. We didn't go hungry!

Enjoyed a delicious dinner in this restaurand. The pasta with Pfifferlinge, and salmon, very very good. As dessert I enjoyed the icecream with hot raspberries. This restaurant is highly recommendable!

We ate outside on the terrace and found the staff to be very friendly. They even brought out some colouring pencils and paper for our toddler daughter. The menu was extensive and offered authentic Black Forest food which was delicious and were large portions. The chanterelle pancake and the Spatzle were particularly tasty.

Had a family lunch here and had a good meal. The flamküche (8€) was tasty and we enjoyed the wild boar goulash too. (15€). The servings were fine but not huge. The service was friendly and fairly efficient.and I was very impressed with the clean modern toilets. All in all fine, but there are probably better options in the village. My husband and I chose to sit indoors on a lovely evening because of the numerous smokers scattered on the terrace. That was too bad but the smoke hung in the air too much to take in the fresh air. Nevertheless, our meal and the service in the restaurant made up for it: Delightful servers and delicious entrees! And of course, charming Gengenbach.

We enjoyed a fantastic night in the Winzerstuble having a delicious meal accompanied by a few beers followed by both red and white local wines. This restaurant had a fabulous atmosphere and reminded us of the type of restaurants normally found in ski resorts. The food was excellent as was the wine and it was not particularly expensive. We would thoroughly recommend this restaurant and would most definitely return.

This restaurant has a lot of traditional German food, and will not break the bank. You will not go home hungry! I ordered the wienerschnizel and an extra side of spatzel, and both were delicious. It also came with a side salad and fries. The side salad was wonderful, the fries I could live without. Oh, and you also get bread before your meal which is yummy! Another plus is that you are also able to order smaller portions of meals, which was more than enough in my case. I still went home stuffed! View menu

After an afternoon of sightseeing in Gengenbach, we searched for a place to sit, have a few drinks, and maybe, a bite to eat.Found Winzerstuble just off the main square and after ordering drinks, had a look at the menu - and immediately felt hungry. There were four in our party so we ordered four different items and did a lot of cross plate sharing. The flammkuchen was my favorite. But all the dishes were good and the food was plentiful. Topped it off with strudel and vanilla sauce. Since the Winzerstuble is in a courtyard away from the main square, there is no traffic or noise distraction, a relaxing place.

In the midst of the little walled village are many restaurants. We chose this one because we saw the delicious looking large pieces of Black Forest Cake other customers were eating. We did not eat lunch as this was a mid afternoon indulgence. We sat on the terrace and were joined by many others for an afternoon pick me up, whether it be a snack, glass of wine/beer or dessert. What a lovely setting with the view of the entire main street of the village in front of you. This is a walled medieval city though many of the buildings are not authentic, just made to look so. Beautiful little spot in the Black Forest.

"Since many of the reviews of Schatull are favorable, I hesitate to submit a negative report as our experience was perhaps an anomaly. However, I think it is important to share our observations. We arrived at Schatull and were seated within minutes. The waiter...took our drink order and meal order at the same time. I pointed on the menu to the meals we wanted and established that the meals did not contain mushrooms my wife is allergic. My wife's place setting consisted of a dirty knife and no fork when the waiter promptly brought our drinks, he provided clean place settings for both of us so far so good. Meanwhile several guests arrived shortly after we did there were approximately occupied tables that we could see from our vantage point. Fast forward one hour we did not see the waiter again I would have at least liked to order a second beer while we waited. We were running low on time due to a previous commitment so we flagged down the waiter and asked for an update on our meals he said ‘they were coming’. The manager stopped by and asked if we had ordered food apparently our order was never turned into the kitchen. Since we were out of time, my wife told them to forget about the meals; then the waiter said we had never ordered meals. We paid for the drinks and left would have been nice if they did not charge us for those considering we wasted an hour of our time. By the way during that one hour period, the only food that was delivered to any of the other tables was a salad, so it seems clear there was some sort of problem in the kitchen compounded by the incompetent service"

"The Gaststätte Zum Turm in Gengenbach is located at the beginning of the pedestrian zone and is rather inconspicuous. But when you go into this original pub, you will find a lot of different beers that can be freshly tapped from one of the seven cocks or ordered in bottle form. But not only for beer drinkers, this place is a good address. There are also many wines and various spirits on the menu. In addition to the lush menu of drinks there is also a menu on the dishes of the Baden and Alsatian cuisine. In addition to Schaufle, Brathaxen, Sausage Salad, self-made meat cubes and co., this location has its own flame cake map with over 40 different variations, all coming from the wood stove to the plate. From classic to unusual (including flame cake with goat cheese and pepperoncini) to sweet, everything is there. The flame cake map can be viewed on the homepage of the Gaststätte Zum Turm. This place is very well visited, so you should appear early. To the tower is a good address if you want to go good food and have a good quality of food. Even if you like to meet with friends and just want to talk to each other, you can do this here with a good beer or a glass of wine at the big counter. The host, as well as the kitchen staff are very friendly and the orders also come to the guest quickly. Conclusion: To the tower, to the tower, storm the tower!!!"
