"Went to the boote last night (4th December) I was very disappointed in the food tbh the starter I had prawn cocktail which was completely tasteless no flavour at all using cheap poor quality flavourless frozen prawns. My main was chicken and unfortunately was a...bit pink in the middle so had to leave it due to fear of salmonella poisoning. My dessert was chocolate fudge cake and vanilla ice cream, the fudge cake was very nice but the ice cream was of very poor quality and again tasteless. I did complain about each course but obviously fell on deaf ears, when we paid the bill I asked if my complaints had been relayed to the manager I was told ‘’ No as the management were eating at the time’’ So because of this experience and the poor quality of some of the food and not getting any response from the management I probably won’t be going back again or recommending it to anyone, it was a very disappointing experience."

Waited over an hour for our order, and sadly it wasn't worth the wait. So don't be in a hurry if you decide to dine here for mediocre pub food.

Needed a nice lunch with lovely company, achieved 1 out of 2, scampi and chips, steak and ale pie and chips ordered, can't go wrong... Steak in the pie...so dry and over cooked, peas like bullets and chips awful, sorry, looked a nice venue but...so disappointing

No swearing or use of phones are the orders of the day and highlighted by many this shouldnt be the case though as the very decent Sam Smith beers should be the headline acts......along with a very ye olde style pub this lends atmosphere...to the place try it (upstairs along one of Chesters walkways)

we had booked a double room for 3 nights when we arrived, we were regretted that we mistakenly gave her room for someone else, we were offered a twin room which, like we were to celebrate 3 nights Valentine's Day was not acceptable, after. a 2 hour drive we had to either go home or find accommodation elsewhere,

Food not good for the money, prawn cocktail starter abysmal for £7, very few prawns, water from lettuce running onto table. Mains very mediocre, definitely not worth the money, felt very ripped off to be honest. Waitresses treat you like you're on a conveyor belt....A shame really because the atmosphere is quite nice but will have to give this place a miss now.

Recently refurbished, this was a very welcoming pub in a lovely location, opposite from Whittington Castle. Prices were very reasonable. Staff were lovely and very helpful. It 's billed as 'dog friendly ', which it isnt; its dog worshipping! Our elderly German Shepherd was spoiled absolutely rotten, by virtually every staff member! Menu covers all the basics, with a couple of slightly different dishes included; not a gastropub by any means, but good solid food. Most nights menus have freebies and offers available. Will definitely be returning. With dog

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."
