"Fantastic range of small dishes and meals for lunch and dinner. The menu ranges from scandi to oriental, so something for everyone. The menu is clearly marked with allergens, including what meals can be adapted. The chicken is halal and vegan and vegetarian options are plentiful. The cocktail and mocktail menu is great and they do one of the best espresso martinis in Shrewsbury. The decor is modern and comfortable and there is plenty of space. As a wheelchair user, I can get into the ground floor and to a table. The outside seats are up a small step, but the whole front of the building is a retractable wall of windows, so I can still get the feeling of eating outside in good weather. The service is friendly and knowledgeable about allergies, the menu and the wine list. The staff are helpful and unobtrusive. The only difficulty for me (hence the 4 star review) is that the accessible bathroom is next door, in their sister bar, Libertine. Unfortunately, libertine isn't open the same hours as HotRS, so I can only use it at certain times. The ladies does have a lock on the door, so staff have cleared the ladies toilets, which allowed me to take my chair in and lock the door. I had to walk a couple of steps to get into a stall but my chair was safely with me. Of course, there is also no alarm cord, but they stood outside the door so would have heard if I shouted for help."

Excellent place to stop. Fabulous surroundings and great staff. Johnny in particular was both attentive, refreshingly honest and super helpful. What an asset to this team.

Gorgeous restaurant with delicious food and cocktails. It was the best sweet and sour chicken I’ve ever had! The service was excellent, very attentive staff and friendly. I can’t wait to go back!

We went on a personal recommendation and were certainly not disappointed. The staff were professional, attentive and efficient. The food was very different but authentic and delicious! The décor was tasteful and despite being a large establishment was very well laid to provide intimacy whilst not feeling lonely..... Would highly recommend a visit!

The ambience when entering is delightful. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Complimentary water was immediately served to the table. So we were all very impressed. Sadly we were very disappointed with our meals. The taste was sweet and reminded us of the sixties song SUGAR, SUGAR ! Maybe this venue should just be a Bar and not serve food ? View menu

We were recomended this restaurant whilst in Shrewsbury. The restaurant has a excellent ambience and is well decorated. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately we were not aware that this was more of a tapas style menu so were not expecting the small main course portions based on the prices so were slightly dissapointed. Teriyaki Steak rather tough...

JONNY WAS AMAZING!!! We couldn’t have asked for a better waiter and we both left feeling like a part of the family! The food, as always, was top quality but the service really made our whole night. We can’t wait to come back and we hope that Jonny is our waiter again : a big thank you for Jonny for the couples therapy, family support, and financial advice!! He is a credit to the team!!

Four of us for lunch, on spec without a reservation. Ordered teriyaki beef, S&P calamari, sea bass terrine, a tofu curry, kamikaze fries and some sort of flatbreads. Great tasting food. Excellent service and very welcoming. Nice feel to the place. If being picky the calamari and sea bass could have had more squid and fish, but still lovely dishes and meant as constructive feedback. Recommended. View menu

This place is really great, we’re not local so found through trip advisor to round up a day out shopping, the food is absolutely fab, really nice! But the staff made it, every single one was lovely, interested and encouraging our dining experience and seemed to really like working there five stars well deserved . A little gem we will be back to and we have decided Shrewsbury is our new fave place! In fact would like to go back now as I write this review and remind myself how good it was.

Went there this evening for my eldest daughter’s 18th birthday and my youngest was a little disappointed as there was no calamari. Upon hearing this Johnny said he would ask if he could see if the kitchen would do it and they did which made my daughter so unbelievably happy. Food was stunning as ever and as we were paying Johnny gave a really good science lesson to my youngest which was actually really good. I learnt about heat density too! Thank you Johnny for being so attentive to us as a table, it really made our experience so much more enjoyable.

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."
