"rebooked the garden space in the dormy house during the stay near the fish hotel. the environment was very warm and welcoming, and overall eating was very good. but the service was lacking and made us confused by reconciliation. In view of the thoughtful and extensive weinlist we could see one of our favourite mixes from South Africa on the menu. after ordering, and about 15 minutes later, the server back to say there was a mistake, and they put the wrong varietal on the list and wanted to serve us a completely différent wein from this manufacturer. we ordered another bottle in harmony with the food we ordered. but our appetizers came before our wine. wait another 15 minutes (we are now 30 minutes in our dinner without wine) and the waiter comes with another bottle saying that they have lost our bottle, but for us to drink this while we wait. no explanation and not even the wine she poured. that was the last thing we saw from our waiter, because somehow the room was busy and she took the other guests for the rest of the night. we finally got our wee who was brought to the table without the cork. strange practice to get a restaurant of this caliber. when we finished our dessert, we fought for 20 minutes to get every server to recognize us or to delete our records. So we went to the server station to ask for the bill. we have observed our server work at least seven different tabs before we had to go up a second time. when the bill came, the server did not even ask us how our dinner was. we gave our credit card and the other server took it away. she returned 10 minutes later to say that she lost the connection. she gave us the card back and canceled the processing statement and said she couldn't charge our card. she did not know what to do and asked if we were with him at the reception (even if we were not guests of the hotel) will not return."

"The one-man bar team was slow, the cider was off. When we went to be seated we were told there was no booking, I offered to show them my confirmation email, there was lots of chat between the two waitresses but they insisted there was no booking. Eventually they logged into the opentable app, where my booking appeared. We were told it was not their fault and they didn't know why I'd booked via that app (it's on the link from their website) When we were seated we were informed 2 of the roast meats had sold out which left only beef, at 1400 on a Sunday I was quite surprised by this and have to assume the kitchen is very poorly stocked. To be fair, the food was good but the overall experience was very underwhelming."

"We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant with great, friendly service. The staff even brought a dog bed and water dish to our table, which we and our pooch appreciated. The menu had a lot of variety and the food was delicious (the loaded pommes were a must-try). The prices were reasonable and it was evident that the restaurant tries to cater to everyone. The restaurant is run by a husband-wife duo, with the husband as the chef and the wife managing the front of the house. They do a fantastic job. We will definitely be returning the next time we are in the Cirencester area. Thank you!"

"We had a family lunch here on a Sunday to celebrate my wife's birthday. It's the first time we have visited, but we'd definitely go back. The décor was very good, creating a relaxed and cosy feel to the restaurant. Service was excellent, nothing was too much trouble and the team were all attention, helpful and professional. The food was great. The menu is sufficiently varied to be able to cope with a variety of tastes, so long as they enjoy Italian food. We had a variety of food, pasta al forno, pizza, risotto as well as home made tiramisu for dessert and everyone really enjoyed their food. Positioned in the centre of Cirencester, this is a very good, non-chain Italian restaurant that we'd be happy to visit again."

"Having stopped in Bourton on the Water and thought I would grab something to eat to save sorting something out later that evening. Having a quick scan on Tripadvisor I thought I would give Smiths a try. Entering I was given a choice of table so opted for one by the window to watch the world go by! I ordered the Smiths Classic Burger, Truffle and Parmesan Fries and thought I would give the Limoncello Spritz a try. Some reviews on here say that there is a wait for the food to arrive and yes there is and to me that is a good thing. If you have to wait it means that the food you have ordered is cooked freshly for you. The burger was well cooked and flavoursome with just the right amount of extras inside to make it something easy to pick up and eat. The truffle and parmesan fries again were very flavoursome. The Limoncello Spritz has a bold claim on the menu in saying that they make Limoncello better than the Italians but to me personally Sorrento Limoncello is superior but Smiths Spritz is still very drinkable. Family run and friendly had a nice conversation with Seb about other places locally to visit and with mum (sorry I didn’t catch your name) about how they came to Bourton and the history of the tea room to burger restaurant change. Yes there is a service charge, yes the mention it when paying and ask if that is ok. To me yes that is fine. Visit other restaurants (not cafes or fast food) and you’ll find that they also charge a service charge. Maybe it should be printed on the menu, maybe it shouldn’t. Everyone has their own opinion. Would I go back again? Would I go with friends? The answer to both of these questions is……. Yes without a doubt!"

"We were visiting the lakes on holiday with friends and decided to book lunch as a meeting point. Myself my husband arrived first and were given a lovely table on the veranda overlooking the lake. There was a speedboat taking people out in rings on the lake which was fun to watch. Our friends were held up by traffic and were almost an hour late, but the staff were so friendly and chilled and we weren't rushed. Service was at the table and it was prompt, professional, but friendly... Once our friends arrived we all ordered sandwiches with chips and the food was fabulous, I particularly enjoyed my salmon sandwich, the portion was great value. We stopped by again just for drinks over the same weekend and sat down on the decking right on the water which was also great. I would absolutely recommend coming here if you're visiting the area, but book if you want food as It's not a huge restaurant and i noticed most of the tables were reserved."

"We stayed 4 nights and ate at the restaurant each night. Excellent rump steak, so tender, cooked to perfection. Fresh vegetables and delicious deserts. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Highly recommend for dinner. Rooms pleasant, bit small for twin beds, but that’s the UK in general if you stay at Inns which are 450 years old!"

"We booked to celebrate Christmas Day at The Frogmill months ago and from the beginning everything was perfect. Great welcome from the staff as soon as we arrived, once we were seated in the restaurant, Bea, who never lost her smile, made our day extra special, she helped us remember what we had ordered in advance and despite being quite busy, she made sure we were ok and came to check on us a couple of times. Congratulations to the chefs too, this year I decided to swap the turkey for the monkfish and I think I would repeat. The cheese board was just great. We ended up super full but we were able to take what we had left in a bag thanks to Bea's offer. Without a doubt, 100% recommendable."

"We were debating about where to have dinner on our last night in the area and ended up booking dinner at Mousetrap. We were not disappointed! The building itself is very cute and we loved the subtle mouse related decor; it as fun to spot them. The food was generous and hearty with a very nice job in the plating creating a lovely first impression. I ordered the spinach and mushroom Pithivier and it was delicious..definitely not something I can get back home. My better half very much enjoyed his chicken. We had just enough room left to share a delicious dessert which also looked great."

"As ALL the pubs in Stow on The Wold, This is a very popular restaurant and you need to book ahead in person or by phone no online bookings). It had a lovely old world atmosphere and the menu looked great. I had Sausage and buttered mash with onion gravy. The Sausages were first quality and excellent but alas the mash was gray and there was no buttery taste it tasted very smooth but bland and the onion gravy was also lacking as it didn't have much flavour and the onions were still crunchy. We were seated in the middle of the pub and 3 flies kept landing on our faces and arms, they kept trying to land on our food. It spoilt the whole experience as we were trying to stop them landing on our food constantly. While we were eating a couple came in asking to eat but had no booking and were turned away as the manager said that they were fully booked. Not 5 minutes later 5 people came in looking for a table without a booking, but instead of being turned away the manager showed them to a table at the back."

"Had planned dinner at The Fox Inn to celebrate my birthday on the evening of Saturday 23rd September whilst staying locally. I had called the restaurant 2 weeks prior to book a table and was advised that they only release a small number of tables for advance booking with the majority available on a walk in basis. I was advised that the dinner service started from 6:30pm and therefore stood the best chance of getting a table if we arrived for then on the day itself. We therefore arrived in good time, walked through the door at 6:31pm to be precise, to be met by an abrupt Italian member of staff who didn 't really even greet us upon arrival. I advised we didn 't have a booking but were hoping for a table for 4 guests. I also explained what I had been told when I called a few weeks prior i.e. that if we arrived early that getting a table shouldn 't be an issue. I was abruptly told that there was no tables available and when challenged on what I had been informed the member of staff proceeded to turn his iPad around and kept pointing at it like I am meant to know what the hell he 's pointing at! Quite frankly a disgusting experience and very disappointing. He made no attempt to accommodate us. The restaurant may I add was empty despite being 'fully booked ' at the point of opening. I can 't help but think the member of staff simply didn 't want us to dine with them for whatever reason....ultimately their loss. We also fed back to our AirB&B host who is fairly influential in the local area, so she can forewarn other potential diners. A birthday meal ruined by this restaurant for no obvious reason. How can you be fully booked for 'walk ins ' that aren 't bookable in advance at the start of your dinner service? Stupid policy if that 's the case as it clearly doesn 't work."

"Biggest smiles and friendly welcome as soon we arrived at the cafe and asked if we could sit at an open table on the terrace to absorb the sunshine and breathe the fresh air whilst appreciating the Cotswold countryside view. A reasonably priced menu with fresh farm produce options. Three of us selected the Frittata cheese and mushroom) topped with a selection of baby leaves which was delicious, although being rich. Another tried the quiche of the day; generous portion of quiche with lots of baby potatoes and a well presented salad, all filled with flavour. The moist, pleasing sized slice of freshly baked coffee cake to finish with a variety of hot drinks was really yummy too! Gluten free cake options available too. Excellent, friendly service without being rushed at all despite the cafe closing. Clean toilets well stocked with hand soap and paper towels are always appreciated, as they seem to be a rare find. Baby change station combined with a wheelchair access toilet was noted. 25 minutes pretty drive from Stratford upon Avon into the Cotswolds on a very narrow road leads to now, one of our favourite spots: Vegetable Matters. Highly recommended for hearty healthy food and cakes for that sense of further euphoria"

"Our third visit for a birthday dinner wasn’t as good as previous visits. The sweet potato soup was plain; the bread was actually toast which smacks of old bread being used. My main course of Sole was smothered with capers, which spoiled the flavour. The salad was amazing; I also ordered Savoy cabbage which may be unusual with the fish but I’d had it on two previous visits and it was delicious; but the savoy cabbage that I paid £3.50 for was absolutely dreadful, so dry, probably microwaved to death; it would not be a gross overstatement to suggest that wood shavings off the floor would have been better. The other disappointment was how tired the place is looking. When I went to the gents, the cistern cover was off showing a clear huge damp problem with mould, and the door cubicle wouldn’t close because it was swollen. I imagine they have been told to keep the cistern cover off to let the walls dry out; which they should do when the pub is closed, not during opening hours. It looked awful and the visible mould was worrying. Whilst in the cubicle the light suddenly went off within seconds of being in there which was disconcerting. For the price and the level where the Cat and Custard Pot is placed it should be immaculate with excellent food. I’m disappointed for them and for us, because this has been a goto dining place for birthdays at least once a year, but we won’t be repeating the experience. It’s worth saying that we have always experienced good service and this occasion was no exception, the waitress was excellent."

"Took the family for an impromptu meal out. I always love Italian food and have to say I can’t fault any of my 3 courses. The Frito misto starter was fantastic, the linguine with prawns, mussels, squid was so so good. I enjoyed the previous courses so much I had to have desert and boy oh boy what a absolute flavour/texture party on my palette when I had the almond parfait….. probably the best dessert I’ve had in 10 years. Such great service from Joyce and a chat with the owner Mimo rounded off the best Italian experience outside of Rome. Give this place a visit ASAP"

"My partner and I tried to have lunch here today. We ordered 2 starters, tricolore salad and carbonara followed by 2 mains, being another carbonara and a pizza plus 2 soft drinks. The dark haired waitress took our order. One drink was delivered incorrectly but we drank it anyway. Then after a long wait a pizza came out with a plate of carbonara (not sure if it was main or starter), but basically we didn’t get our starters. At this point we were the only table in the restaurant so they weren’t exactly under too much pressure. I’m not sure why the girl got the order so badly wrong. We kept the carbonara starter, they took away the pizza and eventually returned with the tricolore salad. No apology, in fact nothing was said at all. We finished. The girls walked backwards and forwards ignoring us and we could hear them chatting away in the bar. After 10 minutes with our empty plates sat in front of us we became annoyed and decided to pay for what we’d had and leave. I explained to the dark haired girl why we were leaving and she argued with me, being very rude and not even allowing me to finish what I was saying. She continued to argue loudly with me following us to the bar where we tried to pay. The other waitress said that she wouldn’t charge us for the dreadful experience that we’d had, but we left feeling very shaken. I have not been spoken to by anyone like that in a very long time. It was really horrible. That girl does not deserve to work in what could be a very nice restaurant."

"what a wonderful restaurant. my husband and I visited tonight. we were both totally impressed by the wonderful service. my husband always commands safe, but the staff made a suggestion for him to order a certain court instead of saying if he doesn't like it, he can change it. my husband loved the court and now has another court that he can order. I wanted my favorite dish that wasn't on the menu, but they did it anyway. there was no moment when you waited for help, they were wonderfully attentive. eating was perfect and reasonable. the staff was also very friendly and took the time to entertain us about our baby on the way. this place really could not fail to fail or recommend it more. claire and tom smith"

"I came into the cafe with my family while we were on a day out, we got some ice cream. The servers were normal and polite. We ordered 4 pots of ice cream, one being advertised as vegan. My son is highly allergic to milk and other dairy product's. We sat down to eat and everything was fine, we checked the ingredients after our 3 year old son started to look ill and saw that the pot contained milk. I then went up and informed them of the mistake and told them that my son is allergic, they apologies with a false undertone and one of the young male servers was laughing while I was complaining. They said it was an old menu and that was the reason. I understand that people make mistakes and I am an open minded person who has never left a bad review anywhere however the face that no remorse or a single care was given at the fact my sons now going to be ill for the never few days and his body will be covered in a rash really upset me and my family. We will be reporting to trading standards for the treatment we received and hope that actions will be taken to avoid these kind of negligence in the future."

"We were a group of five ladies staying at one of the cottages on the estate. We ate outside at Ballihoo for lunch on a very sunny Saturday in October 2023. We had the sharing platter and a side of fries between us. Very tasty mix of breads, hummus, spicy sausage, olives, dipping oil etc. We all thought it was good quality and enough to act as a light lunch for us all. The waitress was particularly helpful and considerate sorting out a slight mixup with our drinks efficiently and without fuss. We then decided to pick up dinner from there that evening and have it as a takeaway. I spoke to Zahra to place our order and she was absolutely lovely and so helpful a real asset to the establishment. Again we all thought the food was wonderful. Two of our group had beef stew and dumplings beef was super tender, gravy was a rich reduction, dumplings were light and moist. Another group member had the plaice loved it! Another had the beef burger again highly rated. I had the cauliflower, walnut and chickpea burger with fries. Very, very tasty and an unusual vegetarian option that made a great change. Overall we were so impressed by the quality and taste. We had originally planned to get a takeaway curry from somewhere else but we’re very glad we didn’t because the food from Ballihoo really exceeded anything else we might have bought. Well done and thank you to all the team there!"
