"We had the Early bird deal before 6.30 on a weekday. The choices were fantastic and the portions were so good! We had the Garlic mushrooms and potato skins to start with and both were large portions. The mushrooms were incredibly tasty. Then we both had the Alfredo, one with mushrooms and one without, really filling Definitely will be returning. "Visited today for lunch with my teenage son. We really enjoyed our food, it was a busy little cafe but there was plenty of staff around so service was great. Had paninis, scone and chocolate fudge cake,the lattes are huge so would recommend an extra shot. The menu is very extensive so there is something for everyone. I work in a similar cafe and I priced up the difference and it was a lot cheaper than where I work and the portion size was much bigger so I'd say it is good value for money. We will be back again"

"la spada never lets us down. we're on our way for a couple of years and we're going to go to our main place if we want to treat ourselves to a meal. the workers and owners are always very firing and do what they can for them. I always wish that we touch each other personally, as some of them know us, and I wish everything good for la spada and hope that they will go on for many years."

"we had only one of the best meal times and night in old. it is also right in front of our doorstep and we had no warning. king prawns in garlic we are probably the best we found and the Calamari star was also quite fantastic. the personal really. care, seemingly thoroughly enjoy what they do and know exactly what is on the menu and from the memory. they all have very welcome us and especially from the side. it was a cold night, but the whole place was warm, the decor is tasteful, fresh and very clean. I was quite shocked at the norms tbh and only 10 minutes from our doorstep? how did we miss that on earth? after our meal we were chatting with the staff and owner in the bar area and it became quite quickly obvious why it was such a good experience was just nice people with real passion a little of rarity in these days I would say. I think I already know where some of our disposable incomes are going now....ha, yes. it's so good, it's really. no longer drive into the city to be disappointed....it would not miss! thanks to all the employees in santonios for a nice night and we will be back....yes, we really will."

"Came for the Christmas Fayre menu with my work colleagues in December 2022 but haven’t had chance to write the review until now. The food was very disappointing in fact I thought the dinner was disgusting the vegetables were disgusting and tasted cheap only one pig in blanket which were burnt for everybody on our table. No thought has been put into the menu it was the same as the previous years. No fish option unless you went on an evening so I was forced to eat meat so I didn’t miss out on the meal as the vegetarian starter and main meal were mushrooms and I hate mushrooms. The desert was none existent supposed to be chocolate fudge cake there was the thinnest piece they could have cut hardly any cake on the plate and all just sauce it may as well had been a plate full of sauce. The broth for starter had no taste and again meat in it most other places do a vegetarian soup so you at least have some sort of choice. Not worth the money at all!!"

"My family and I have been loyal customers of this restaurant for years. However, after a recent experience, I feel compelled to share some important details. Last month, we ordered chicken tikka rogan josh for takeout and were extremely disappointed. The dish had onion bhajis mixed in, resulting in greasy splatters everywhere. Additionally, I would advise caution regarding the safety of your belongings when dining here. I won't elaborate further, but I recommend avoiding this restaurant at all costs."

"We initially planned to dine at a Chinese restaurant, but after reading reviews, we opted for a local takeaway instead. We ordered a Munch Box and a King Prawn Da Da. Unfortunately, we were unable to finish the Munch Box, as there were still two chicken balls and ribs left. We will save the King Prawn meal for tomorrow night. The only reason for not giving a perfect score is that the portion of curry sauce was too small, but the service was excellent."

"Food was absolutely awful. Cold, bland, absolutely no flavour, even the chips were rotten. Mint sauce yoghurt tasted as if it had soured. A main missing from order which whne we rang inform them they offered a refund which in hindsight was good as i can only imagine it would have ended up in bin with the rest. "I've always liked this place, but it's not quite the reliable favourite that it used to be. Large portions but prices have increased significantly and the dishes I've had most recently are lacking taste and quality, especially compared to before. £3.40 for a small bottle of Fanta is a bit strong, also. Hopefully, it can regain it's mojo, as it's a good location with friendly and helpful staff."

"Had a lovely meal booked table for 18.30 on Saturday , service good , food really nice ,one of the better Indian meals we have had and would return . Only issue was that when we were finished starter and main (we declined a sweet we were given the bill and a short time later (although we still had a half bottle of wine were asked if we could leave as they needed the table .If we wanted a sweet would they have asked us?I see this has been mentioned previously by customers but too no response from manager ?Maybe if they indicate this issue to all customers it may avoid a negative comment or maybe give a reasonable timeslot indication on the website, just a thought."

"The cafe decor is unusual with wood sculpture tables and decorative objects. The service is good and the staff are very helpful and pleasant. Cakes, hot drinks and biscuits are available at reasonable prices. The arnt any savoury items for sale. The premises are spacious and will take prams and push chairs. This is a great place to meet friends. There are comfortable sofas and chairs which enhance your visit."

"Whilst the staff were friendly they just seemed to be quite slow and had to ask several times to ask for drinks order bill same for the table behind us who looked fed up waiting too. We had young children who had to be really patient and waited best part of an hour after starter. The food was mixed, some great some not so. The Bruschetta lacked flavour and was quite small. No condiments on the table to help with this. The lasagne was a cut portion not in its own dish. It was just warm, really dry and looked warmed up from a larger portion. The sizzlers looked impressive and were really tasty. The pizzas looked alright. Cheesy garlic bread went down well but the Normal garlic bread seemed a thinner harder base which wasn’t as nice. I’m sure the restaurant is usually good albeit a couple of disappointing dishes. It’s a busy time of the year so that’s also understandable. A quick ‘how’s your food’ on both courses would be appreciated to check for the needs of a large party for condiments drinks happy with food."

"I found out about this restaurant through a friend's recommendation and was very impressed! Despite its somewhat inconspicuous exterior, the inside is actually quite cozy. The waiter and staff were extremely friendly and always made us feel welcome, in addition to serving really delicious food. I was surprised at how quickly our meals arrived (in less than 15 minutes) and they were still well-prepared. There are plenty of seats for large groups, with table service provided. The restrooms were clean and well-maintained, and the atmosphere was comfortably warm. Please note that this restaurant is on the pricier side. I would recommend it for special occasions and gatherings, but probably wouldn't dine here every night."

"Here is the best fish and chips restaurant in the centre of Durham. Many of the residents who live nearby seem regularly visit here. So when the during the university term and weekdays usually many people visit here. I saw that there has a takeout service. I got my fish and chips very quickly, and it was well fried. One of the best fish was Cod. I ordered just a small size of Cod, but it was still huge! If you have your meal here, it would be very full and satisfying. Maybe I will visit here more regularly"

"The worst service ever, we ordered starters and main course, after an hour by chasing waiters we got our main courses and we been given 2 options to cancel the starters or have it after main course. We cancelled it, after these all GUESS WHAT,...they brought bill with all the cancelled starters and extra bowl of rice which was included in the price of dish. I would give NO STAR rather than 1 start. Such a shame for the owner and manager who JUST care about MONEY."

"My friend and I had been shopping in Crook so before returning home to Weardale we thought we would pop into Cafe J’s for a quick snack. Well it was only tea and crumpets but it hit the spot as the tea was not weak like many cafes and was lovely tasting plus the crumpets were well done which suited my friend and I. Lovely and hot, served with plenty of butter. It’s the most friendly place and a great atmosphere."

"It’s been a while since we last visited due to covid but unfortunately it’s not the same. Everything is in takeaway cups and boxes. My hubby ordered a chicken Yorkshire pudding wrap which was smaller than it used to be and not the best trying to eat it with plastic cutlery out of a small cardboard box. I ordered a toastie which just came still in its toastie bag no plate of any kind not very appealing at all. Our grandchildren ordered milkshakes and they have changed too a chocolate overload used to come with chunks of chocolate bars and wafer tubes and crushed chocolate down the side of the holder but all it had was some chocolate sauce on it and a flake not really what you would call a chocolate overload and obviously the children noticed the difference from the last time we visited. I can understand them using takeaway holders when restrictions first eased but most cafes now have reverted back to normal using plates and proper cutlery and it really does make a difference. I’m sorry but we were all very disappointed and probably wouldn’t visit again which is a shame considering what it used to be like."

"Fantastic culinary experience……… My wife and I, along with our dear friends visited The County restaurant, 13 The Green, Aycliffe Village, County Durham today, Saturday the 19th of March 2022). As soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted by a lovely waitress/ hostess called Claire. She showed us to our table , gave us some menus and took our drinks order. We all chose different starters and mains. Kieran, our waiter, brought our meals and we were not disappointed. Why?, because: 1) The food was well presented 2) The plates were red hot 3) The food was piping hot 4) The food was excellent, tasty and plentiful 5) The waiter/waitress Claire and Kieran) were super friendly, polite and professional, nothing was too much trouble. 6) The pub/restaurant was spotless, warm and inviting. A truly fantastic culinary experience. Well done to all at The County restaurant."

"We booked a table at Clarendon's for Sunday lunch when we visited Barnard Castle for the weekend. We were shown straight to our table served with drinks whilst we perused the menu. There was a good choice I opted for the meat trio...roast (chicken, pork beef), whilst hubby went for the roast beef. It was all delicious the meat was very tender melted in your mouth. The veggies were all fresh plenty of them. The service was good everyone was very friendly. A very nice Sunday lunch. We would recommend it."

"My Dad and myself came to your pub/restaurant for lunch on Saturday 23rd Dec. My Dad ordered the Hunters chips which he enjoyed but unfortunately the pitiful excuse for a scampi was unbelievable. It arrived at out table and i just stared at it in disbelief. It was presented on a small narrow plate with nine pieces of scampi which was either cooked in wrecked oil in the fryer or was seriously over cooked as it was dark brown in colour instead of the golden brown that it should be. There was only a handful of fries( not chips) which looked like they had been dropped on the plate from a great hight and the smallest portion of shrivelled up and dried peas i have ever seen in my life. As a chef myself i would have been disgusted and ashamed with myself to have even plated up a meal like that in the kitchen never mind sending it out to a paying customer. I did not even get an apology off the staff when i took it back to the bar to complain and was just asked if i wanted to choose anything else off the menu. I ordered the lasagne only to be told a few minutes later that they were out of stock as was the fish , as was the gammon, as was the turkey pie, so i ended up with an all day breakfast in the end. I was informed that the lack of food stock was due to it being close to christmas and they had run down all their food stocks to avoid wastage. I work for a large pub/restaurant chain and it doesn't matter what time of year it is we are always stocked up to deal with any cutomer volume that walks through our doors. This was meant to be a nice christmas treat for my dad and myself which was ruined by poor quality and standards of both the food and staff involved."
