"We were having a short break in Exmouth and were so impressed with the food on the first night that we booked for the next night as well. The restaurant from the outside looks small and cosy, but don’t be put off if the tables...look full as there as other room, equally as cosy, deeper in the premises The menu is interesting with a good selection of dishes and I found it difficult to choose a dish, simply because there were several that took my fancy. My wife had Chicken Souvlaki which, unlike a lot of chicken dishes was not dry and very tasty. My Lamb Kleftico was well cooked so that it fell off of the bone and was delicately spiced with a rich sauce. It was juicy and tender melted in the mouth. The second night my partner had carrot and cheese souflee served with a rich tomato sauce, Mediterranean vegetables boulangere potatoes. This I am told was lovely with a great flavour. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, so often these are overdone but these had just the right amount of crunch left in them. Myself I had Moroccan Lamb Tagine. Having eaten this in Marrakesh I was a little dubious but I need not have worried. It was not as rustic as that served in Morocco, much more refined, but just as tasty and cooked to perfection. For dessert we shared a Summer Berry Bread Butter Pudding with mixed berries. It had a good contrast on sweet and slightly sharp berries that complimented each other. The service was good, efficient, and friendly. Where there was a question , the owner was always happy to answer and obviously took a great pride, and rightly so of her restaurant. If you get a chance this is a must try restaurant and I have no trouble recommending it."

"Have been having fish and chips from here for several years, however the last few times the standard has dropped. Last week we had fish, chips and mushy peas and the fish was of a very poor standard. The actual fish was grey and thin, and was very dry. The batter was extremely hard and almost orange in colour. It was almost brittle on the outside but still uncooked on the inside! It was actually inedible. The chips were OK, not great. Service: Take out"

"My wife and I went here recently to celebrate her birthday. The waitress was fab and friendly and had a great sence of humour. Unfortunately that was where the fun ended. My wife ordered dover sole and I had the pork dish. Mine was extremely salty but I decided not to say anything, however my wife 's meal was inedible because everything was plastered in heaps of salt. We called the waitress over, who then asked the owner to come and speak to us. She was very curt and offered to recook the meal. We asked if whe would take bith away as we didn 't want to eat alone or leav mine to go cold whilst they recooked for my wife. She took both away but quickly returned to inform us that she had tasted both and thought that the fish was fine but maybe the pork was a bit too salty! I informed her that I was very sorry and that we did not agree and that bith my wife and I thought that the dover sole was extremely salty. At this point she started to raise her voice and attracted the attention of the rest of the diners. At this I decided that it was time for us to leave as the situation was irreconcilable and that we would oay for the wine but not the food and got up from the table and went into the bar area to pay. The owner followed me and as I went to hand her my credit card she raised her voice again and shouted I don 't need this or your money, just go! We would like to thank Kerry and her husband for ruining my wife 's borthday"

"Lost count how many times we have visited Sidmouth, and one of the main reasons for going is down to Neil 's Restaurant, which in itself says it all. Last week we only managed 3 visits trying to go through the menu, spoilt for choice. We have never been disappointed with any course ever. In fact quite the opposite. The food is freshly cooked with some gentle exquisite sources, plenty of fresh vegetables and special deserts. The staff are great, efficient and friendly, its a great atmosphere. Super quality food at a sendible and reasonable price. One of the telling points is that they were full every night they were open, which is why we could only get in 3 times, luckily we had booked the 3 well in advance. Its an asset to Sidmouth, and you could well understand if estate agents put them as a local asset in the amenities of the particulars of property for sale, could increase the region 's already high property prices, wish we lived near by."

"Can’t recommend it enough. The menu had a great selection (some pub classics but also some more interesting dishes that you don’t get in chain pubs) and cooked to perfection always served hot and fresh, and very tasty. We stayed in the local area for three nights and ate here for two of them! Good selection of beers on tap. Nice friendly atmosphere in there, obviously popular with locals. Undergoing renovations at the moment but doesn’t detract. Toilets have been recently renovated and are very modern and clean."

"Dukes is a large eaterie that we discovered on the Friday of our long weekend in Sidmouth. We booked in for Sunday lunch roasts available) but chose instead a couple of bowls of salt, chilli and ginger squid. The squid were predominantly whole baby squid and mighty good with the ginger and soy dipping sauce. A nice addition would have been a wedge of lemon and a sweet chilli dip, more akin to the chilli and spring onion garnish. We followed this with traditional battered cod and chips and a fish pie. Both were good choices but i would like to have seen a greater variety of fish in my pie, rather than just salmon and white fish..some prawns and monkfish for example as the dish was a little pricey at £19. 4 Guys non alco IPA and a cola brought the bill to a slightly expensive £66. The service was however good. Automatic service charging is NOT protocol in Sidmouth as a whole, so my £7 cash tip offering was gratefully recieved by our proficient server. Sidmouth is a very dog friendly village and as such, be prepared to eat alongside our well behaved canine friends."

"We visited Sidmouth on 19th July with my wife's god-daughter and her sister. Having spent some time on the beach we wanted to have a meal and The Mocha was right in front of us so we decided to eat there. The menu said that they were serving up to 3pm and we went in at 2.50 so we all quickly made our choices and I went up to the counter to order, arriving at 2.55. There was one elderly gentleman in front of me buy a coffee. However the server seemed to be having some trouble making the order and then the gentleman had some issues making his payment resulting in my arrival at the counter at 3.01, literally 3.01, one minute past 3pm, only to be told they weren't taking any more food orders as it was past 3pm. I argued that I had been in the queue for six minutes and that I would have ordered before 3pm if they hadn't taken so long to sort one coffee order out but to no avail. The member of staff in question was very abrupt to the point of being rude and it was quite clear she could not be bothered to take our order as other staff were dashing around clearing tales and it may have resulted in the staff having to wait for us to finish our meal before they could close up. If they are not going to accept orders up to 3pm then they shouldn't state this on the menu and I have never been in a restaurant or cafe where they refuse to take an order which would have exceeded £60 after I had joined a queue before the closing time. They are lucky they can afford to turn away over £60's worth of business. The customer service here was zero and would not recommend visiting a place where the staff are so rude or so unhelpful."

"I walked to the restaurant from Exmouth after checking their website, which indicated that they were open for food and drinks. However, when I arrived at 1:30pm on Saturday, October 1st, I saw a notice on the door saying that there was no food available and the bar was not open. It would be advisable for the restaurant to update their website accordingly."

"we arrived on Monday night after 20 o'clock. we received a warm greeting and showed our seats. the restaurant was beautiful, with a great atmosphere beautiful background music. there were stands and table seats for larger parties. the service was great. the personal was very attentive. the choice of food was plentiful and the most difficult part was the choice of what to have. we had wobbles bahji and sheek kebabs for beginners. they were the best we had. very tasty full of taste. the main thing were chickens madras and chickensbiryani. we were not disappointed. eating was amazing, the best we ever had. the chicken was very juicy and full of taste. also large portion sizes. if they like to eat Indian, they must visit this restaurant. they will not be disappointed! I'm sorry, there were no photos. that was eating well I had no time to make a photo."

"Today wife and I celebrated my birthday and also my successful heart op. So it was a special day for us. We sat in the indoor terrace, nice and warm and enough people to give a nice atmosphere. Staff were absolutely superb. We both had scallops to start. Very good Followed by whole char grilled cuttle fish my wife found this dish to be excellent) I tried the pollock. Nicely cooked. I had chips with my fish and when I ordered a second lot they arrived in 2 or 3 mins a piping hot. We also had a sweet. Chocolate brownie with banoffee sauce and I had the peach Melba. Both excellent followed by tea and I had the fisherman’s coffee. Well done to all at rockfish and not forgetting all those behind the scenes. Kid-friendliness: Children were welcome and a nice high chair provided. Wheelchair accessibility: Having got a family member in a wheelchair I tend to take notice of ease of entry and roominess to manoeuvre. Not sure about toilets."

"What a find , after walking round looking for a place to eat that didn't serve all the same food as other places we found Abys , at first we were a little daunted as it was packed , but we liked the menu and decided to try and get a table. We were shown to a table in a side room and the young lady gave us chance to settle before taking our drinks order, she gave us a menu and explained the ordering process. We noticed on entering that they did a full carvery but my granddaughter had already spotted her favourite meal , chicken skewers in pitta , I found my favourite dish , slow cooked belly pork. I have to say the food was exceptional ,it arrived very hot , well presented and it was excellent , full of flavour and a full plate. I highly recommend Abys for really good food ."
"An absolute pleasure to find ourselves here for lunch. A charming and picturesque inn, with thatch roof and an old English charm to it, we were very happy and full by the end of our meal. Everything was beautiful, especially the locally sourced beef and we couldn't help but have dessert to finish. A lovely couple who were polite and fast with service. Parking was easy and cost very reasonable considering where we were. I honestly would highly recommend for couples or families. They had toys to keep my youngest busy whilst we waited and by the end she didn't want to go home. I just wished I'd have taken a photo because the property is honestly stunning. With the cottage feel and the low beams and thatching, it really does look like something out of a fairytale. Very clean and quaint. Parking: Lots of space, easy to access. Kid-friendliness: Toys available to keep them busy, lots of space outside, easy access to the toilets for children. Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp on the door for east entry and throughout the property. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Warm Chocolate Fudge Cake Parking space: Plenty of parking Parking options: Free parking lot"

"Other reviews suggest that we may have actually avoided a bad experience, as it seems that anyone from out of town is treated poorly anyway. Additionally, the temperature was not below freezing, but even if it had been, my child would have been properly dressed and cared for. Despite their defense of their pub and its rules, they should not attack my parenting abilities. My husband's name is Glenn, not Loveridge, and I would appreciate it if they did not try to use personal information against me. Overall, I would rate this pub zero stars and suggest others avoid it as well."

"I have been a regular customer for many years at Costa in Sidmouth have always found the front of house staff to be great, sadly those staff are let down by a Manager (Phil) who has no people or customer service skills.I rarely if ever make a complaint but sadly today 13/02/21 my patience ran out with the terse attitude of this Manager which I have felt previously on other visits, this guy is supposed to be welcoming, not frosty charmless. After work, myself a workmate popped into costa to grab a coffee, while he joined the queue I just sat down on the stone seat by the food counter as many people often do, without so much as a hello, Phil the manager honed in on me with aggression said OFF OF THAT SEAT offended doesn 't cover it but I did retort as I grabbed my workmate to leave I said I told you he was a miserable sod I couldn 't help but feel sickened as we left as I did nothing wrong, my workmate honestly thought it was some joke the manager was playing but sadly it was only too real for me, leaving a permanent scar with this Costa, which I won 't visit again whilst he is in charge!"

"We walked in at lunchtime and despite us being the only customers , the pub was cosy and warm and beautifully decorated for Christmas. A lovely greeting too. As there were no sandwich menu we didn’t want a full meal we had to opt for the soup. This is where the pub let itself down the Pea and Ham soup with bread it appeared to be a thick pile of grey looking mushy peas but we dug in to find it luke warm and not a hint of ham nor any other flavour at all. Clearly no thought or culinary know how had gone into this recipe oh, and butter with the bread ! We pushed it about and left. I suppose we should have said something but it was so dire it was embarrassing . I did hear the cook saying to the bar lady that there were only 2 portions of the soup left just as well ……… Shame no sandwiches or similar were offered on the lunch menu . Giving it a three star as the pub itself was beautiful and so cosy on such a cold day and bar lady very friendly"

"Amazing birthday treat to stay here from my son daughter in law.Stunning cosy pub accommodation in a wonderful location. I was thoroughly spoilt by being booked into the most lovely room with its own private terrace. It was beautifuly presented with its own garden pod chimanea, sun loungers table chairs. There was a gorgeous bouquet of roses in the room accompanied by a birthday card from David the GM his team at the pub, what a very thoughtful gesture. This was just one of the many little treats that made my stay so enjoyable. Thank you so much.! The room itself En suite were extremely comfortable stylishly decorated with everything you need for an unforgettable relaxing stay."

"Not much open for food in Seaton mid December on a Sunday but we'd eaten in here before, and enjoyed it, so thought we'd try again. All table service, which was friendly and efficient. Nice choice of real ales and cider and a good menu. We both opted for the beef burger and added bacon and cheese. It came with lovely chunky chips and a salsa and was well cooked, hot and delicious. Would definitely recommend and eat there again when in Seaton."

"My husband and I stopped by the Cannon for lunch last Saturday, it had been quite some time since our last visit. There was plenty of parking available, and we were greeted warmly as we walked into the restaurant. The menu offered a variety of options, and we chose table 8 to sit at. We ordered at the bar, selecting a pot of tea for two along with a small ham, egg, and chips dish, and liver with bacon, onions, mashed potatoes, three types of vegetables, and gravy. Our tea arrived promptly, and we enjoyed our first cup while taking in the simple decor of the room. Our meals were served by the friendly lady who welcomed us earlier, and we were impressed by the high quality of the ham, chips, egg, liver, bacon, onions, mash, and vegetables. The lady even checked in to ensure we were satisfied with our food. Everything was clean and the service was attentive. We found the price of our pub lunch to be reasonable and we will remember the Cannon for its friendly service."
"Ate here twice during our stay in Kilmington. We had eaten here about a year ago and remembered the service and food to be fabulous and we weren’t disappointed on our return. Hayley gave amazing service throughout and was very welcoming to all the customers we saw there. The choice of dishes was extremely good and there were gluten free choices too. I would go for the gluten free fish cakes on the first visit and corn fritters on the second both delicious. All our food was generously portioned, very well cooked and tasty. The prices too here are very reasonable. So with the added warm welcome and great service it’s no wonder people come back here. Unfortunately it was a bit too cool for us to sit outside this time as this place has a wonderful beer garden overlooking the hills. Inside though it has a lovely cosy feel without being cramped. Highly recommended."
