"We stayed in Uplyme over the weekend and have walked past this place many times to go and get food in Lyme Regis. On Saturday we decided that we would try the local. On entering the pub we were not overwhelmed with the decor and wondered if we had done the right thing to eat here. All I can say is what a fantastic find this place is. Amazing home cooked food at reasonable prices. All the adults in our party had different main courses and each were delighted with what we ate. The desserts were also very tatsy ad better value than desserts you get in some of the chain restaurants. Highly recommend this place for decent food"

"Popped in for a drink with sister and sat at a table that was booked for 45 minutes later. 20 mins before the stated time we were reminded the table was booked at 7, to which we replied ‘yes we know’. 10 mins later another member of staff came and reminded us again because the people that had booked had arrived early. Once again we said ‘yes we know’. Then the barman apologised to them because the table wasn’t free! We then let him know how we felt about his poor customer service, which he defended, and left. Instead of making us feel unwelcome and that we were doing something wrong by finishing our drinks, the people that had booked the table should have just been informed that the table would be free at 7..the time they actually booked"

"What a fabulous little gem this is on Honiton High Street! I have been visiting here for a number of years, it's a wonderful welcoming, friendly vibe, and the food is always incredible! The tapas is a definite highlight, alongside the belly pork or steak I've enjoyed them all! The pancakes offered on the breakfast menu are utterly divine (if I could, I'd have them every day! . I've attended charity theme nights (the cocktail evening was a particular favourite, even if we didn't manage to get through the whole menu Loving the food and service as much as we do, we also asked if they could cater our wedding. Nothing was too much trouble; from the initial planning, to the day itself, the team put me at ease and were so friendly and professional, helping guide us through what we needed/wanted. We decided on tapas to start, pizza for main (these are no ordinary pizzas! Hand stretched, cooked in a woodfired pizza over, they are perfection! followed by a selection of desserts. The food was plentiful, and the guests all commented on how much they enjoyed it! Honiton is fortunate to have a number of fabulous restaurants and cafes, but The Honiton Wine Bar is definitely top of the list for me!"

"Visited here one evening as we’d seen this prominent restaurant on our travels along the A35. Nice big carpark, but a shame there isn’t an entrance from the carpark itself (you have to walk round the front of the building to access it). Friendly enough service, but the interior was quite bland and uninspiring. Our starter of loaded nachos was very tasty with plenty of cheese and jalapeños. We both had burgers for our mains which weren’t especially big and came with a smattering of chips and some coleslaw (no salad). The gluten free burger option came with a very stodgy bun and lacking the onion rings that my husband had on his non-gf option. Very sparse on the Stilton cheese in mine too. Ok if you need something to eat late in the evening, but there were far better eateries in the local area."

"This pub has been tastefully refurbished. It has new management from Jan 2024. We visited today 24th April. My wife is in a wheelchair and staff were immediately on hand to open the french doors for access. In the space of two hours we were the only diners apart from two couples having coffee and two fellows who had soup. Despite this the service was slow, staff were frequently absent. I had to knock on the kitchen door to get someone to give me a bill. We felt there was too much emphasis on trying to be different but some dishes, like deep fried bread and butter pudding were slightly weird. The meal was o.k. but service and staff attentiveness could be better. A mild disappointment for what promised to be a great experience. Little touches, like serving biscoff or mints with the coffee would have been good. My belly pork was quite good but served with 'apple mash ' which I took to be an alternative to apple sauce, turned out to be mashed potato, therefore the chips ordered as an extra were superfluous. After three months, even a midweek lunchtime should be busier, but perhaps other locals have been reluctant to make a return visit."

"Went for Sunday lunch and would not recommend. The roast was poor, the only highlight was the cauliflower cheese but the dessert was even worse. Never asked by the waitress how the food was but asked if we had finished our meal while my daughter was still eating. Would have stayed for another drink and to sit and chat but felt rushed away even though it was not at all busy."

"Myself and a friend have travelled around Devon and Somerset testing breakfasts . We met today 4.6.24. At Zest . Without doubt the breakfast is a10+ for presentation , quality and taste. The bacon and sausage were the most delicious we have tasted . Meaty sausages and non salty bacon . The rest of the breakfast was delicious. Thick slices of toast with large slab of butter. Definitely recommend this establishment. One with beans and one without but with an extra hash brown. Excellent, friendly and efficient service to top it all!. We will travel here again, one of us from Teignmouth,Devon and the other Ilminster, Somerset"

"While on vacation, we decided to stop by a restaurant that offered cream teas. We arrived at 2:55, thinking we had plenty of time before they closed at 4:00. However, as soon as we approached the restaurant, a waitress informed us that the main dining area was closed but the courtyard seating was available. We decided to sit outside since the weather was nice. At 3:05, we ordered two cream teas and they arrived promptly at 3:12. By 3:25, a server tried to clear our table even though we hadn't finished our meal, which was obvious. At 3:40, another server abruptly placed the bill on our table without us requesting it, and they treated another table of 4 in the same manner. At 3:45, we left through the back entrance as instructed by a staff member who was quite rude. Needless to say, we did not leave a tip."
"We run a Welcome Cafe for people who live alone and people who just need company and support. We come under the umbrella of the Lyme Regis Development Trust and we decided that we would treat nearly thirty people to a Christmas lunch and the Hunters Lodge did us proud. The Christmas table decorations were beautiful and the lunch was excellent and so well presented. Service was first class and the staff were so kind to our visitors. We really don’t know where to start to thank you Hunters Lodge for giving us all such a wonderful afternoon and you can be sure that your community spirit in helping so many people to enjoy an afternoon in the run up to Christmas will not go unnoticed. We would therefore highly recommend you to any individual or organisation wishing to have a lovely meal and excellent service. A huge THANK YOU from all who attended and wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year."

"This is a really nice and super busy restaurant. We enjoyed some starters, and ordered two curries with some sides for our main. We had a veggie curry and a black dhal. Both were tasty, but unfortunately both dishes were much too spicy for us and we couldn’t eat a lot of it. We have been to Himalayan restaurants before and really enjoyed the food, and didn’t find it spicy. It was just a bit much for us which was a real shame. While there were plenty of gluten free options (e.g all the curries), there were no details on allergies on menu, so it meant I had to ask about what dishes I could have, which felt a bit awkward. It would be better if it was clear on the menu what was GF."

"I am writing this review after dining at the Mariner's Cafe, which I believe is part of the same business. We visited on a busy bank holiday weekend and were greeted by a friendly server who was knowledgeable about the menu and offered helpful suggestions. We were prepared to wait a bit for our food since it was cooked fresh to order. We ordered fish and chips, a fish finger sandwich, and ham, egg, and chips. All of our meals were piping hot and delicious, especially the homemade tartare sauce. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable, so we didn't feel like we were overcharged. I also appreciated that all the drinks and their glasses were kept in the fridge, ensuring nice cold glasses for our beverages. We will definitely be visiting again."

"I wish i had read the reviews sooner. When we walked in we were shooed to a table in the middle of the room despite us calling up and asking for a corner table. I have problems eating in the middle of a room. The young member of staff had an attitude problem. We felt rushed and was asked twice before I even made up my mind if we were ready. Now I dont take long but when someone is rushing you its hard to make up your mind. I felt intimidated. When I made my choice he muttered something in a foreign language that I couldn't understand. The whole experience was distressing and I felt an inconvenience to be there. The food was bland and the curry was watery and hardly any meat never mind the price. This is no way to treat a customer that wanted the night to be a special night with their partner. Definitely won't be going back. Stay clear unless u want to eat in fear."

"Dukes is a large eaterie that we discovered on the Friday of our long weekend in Sidmouth. We booked in for Sunday lunch roasts available) but chose instead a couple of bowls of salt, chilli and ginger squid. The squid were predominantly whole baby squid and mighty good with the ginger and soy dipping sauce. A nice addition would have been a wedge of lemon and a sweet chilli dip, more akin to the chilli and spring onion garnish. We followed this with traditional battered cod and chips and a fish pie. Both were good choices but i would like to have seen a greater variety of fish in my pie, rather than just salmon and white fish..some prawns and monkfish for example as the dish was a little pricey at £19. 4 Guys non alco IPA and a cola brought the bill to a slightly expensive £66. The service was however good. Automatic service charging is NOT protocol in Sidmouth as a whole, so my £7 cash tip offering was gratefully recieved by our proficient server. Sidmouth is a very dog friendly village and as such, be prepared to eat alongside our well behaved canine friends."
"We had lunch at this restaurant based on a recommendation from the staff at the caravan site we were staying at near Axminster. It was such a fantastic experience that we decided to book again for Sunday lunch the following week. The food was delicious and we enjoyed it so much that we returned for a light lunch on our last day of the holiday. We dined outside on the terrace with views of the estuary on the warm days and inside in the front part of the restaurant for Sunday lunch. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. The food was some of the best we have had in years, even compared to top end restaurants we have visited. The warm goats cheese salad I had on the first visit was the tastiest and most original salad I have ever tasted. My wife said the belly of pork she had was amongst the best she had ever eaten. For Sunday lunch, we both had the lamb roast which was perfectly cooked and served with plenty of vegetables. On our final visit, my wife had an excellent fish pie and I had a starter size portion of the warm goats cheese salad again. Each meal was followed by a delicious homemade Dorset Apple cake with clotted cream, which was also exceptional. We can't wait to return to this amazing restaurant. This is a genuine six star review and we have no affiliation with the Ship in any way."

"Though the weather was windy there was sun and we were able to sit in the adorable garden that they have in the back. Lovely little place in the heart of Honiton. The inside is also very quaint and rustic to sit in as well with welcoming staff. I had a delicious Brie and Cranberry toastie while my mother chose an Orange and Pecan cake from one of the many options on display. Very delicious, highly recommend."
