"We visited on a very quiet Sunday afternoon, there no more than 3 other families in the entire restaurant, so we expected good quick service , food and drinks but what we experienced was sadly the complete opposite. We were informed on being seated that there was a 2 for £10 cocktail offer available so we ordered 2 of the same drink. Staff returned to tell us the first drink was out of stock, fine we ordered an alternative. Staff then returned again to tell us this one was not part of the offer, surely staff should have known that and saved us another 10 mins waiting for drinks , so finally settled on a third drink which should have been pink gin, lime and strawberries. What actually came was a glass of standard gin and lemonade , cup full of ice with a single slice of lemon (see photos) …nothing like the drinks in the menu and definitely not worth £9.50 each! The strawberry lemonades we ordered were a mess and the kids couldn’t even drink them so another £8 wasted. The sharing platter we ordered , according to the menu said it feeds 2-3 people but on arrival we only had 2 of everything, so clearly is actually created for 2 people and didn’t warrant a 35 minute wait. We tried ordering more drinks to replace the horrible lemonades for the children by asking two different members of staff but both failed to deliver anything until 5 mins before we were leaving so sadly more money went to waste. What should have been a nice family meal was awful and a complete waste of £50."

"My wife and I stayed at Woodhall for our 24th anniversary on Monday 31st July. We had booked a room that allowed us to take our 2 dogs; one of which had just had a serious operation on her leg so was not supposed to use stairs. My wife rang what we assumed was Woodhall but now wonder if it went to a central HPH number? to be absolutely sure we had a ground floor room. She was assured that there ‘were no stairs at all’ and the room was on the ground floor. When we arrived the man on reception Richard was very cold, unwelcoming and condescending on his attitude I said we had a booking for a ground floor room with our dogs I was told there were no ground floor rooms ! so I went to the car with the dogs and my wife who had been assured re the booking went to reception. He was apparently totally unapologetic and rude saying only ‘well madam I don’t know what you want me to say ‘ my wife was visibly upset and he offered no apology and when asked if there was another way to our room she was bluntly told no! At this point we nearly turned around and left but luckily what we considered your star employee at the venue .Natalie, appeared and did everything she could to make things right she couldn’t understand how we had been told about the room but showed us an alternative route which was less stressful for our dog who managed to negotiate the stairs. Our room was lovely so no complaints there . We decided to have a snack lunch and I ordered a club sandwich but after some time was given a steak sandwich and were the only people in the lounge luckily Natalie was able to intervene . We then were concerned about our dinner reservation as we had booked the tasting menu but the leaflet in the lounge said it wasn’t available on a Monday when I queried it I was told we had booked a 3 course meal! Again Natalie intervened and contacted the restaurant who said yes we had booked the tasting menu by now we were rather hassled as you can imagine when Natalie found out it was our Anniversary she kindly sent us a complimentary bottle of bubbles. When we arrived for dinner we were of course handed the a la carte menu ! This was eventually sorted and the meal was excellent as were the serving staff. We checked out thankful for Natalie who saved the day ; in fact all the staff bar the receptionist were lovely. My , and your take out from this is that is a clear problem with miscommunication between your central booking and your local hotels and attention to detail needs to be better it cost us £500 for one night and for that price we expected a perfect stay which it could have been with the right staff on reception and improved communication throughout . We’ve had no response from HP Hotels of course"

"Went here for an impromptu lunch yesterday with my Mum. It 's not a table service restaurant, more so select and order at the bar like a pub however definitely a 'restaurant ' feel to it. The menu I feel would be good for most people although I am not sure about allergies/intolerances. Mexican/American/Italian (burgers, pizza, tacos etc). I am a (mostly) vegan and I 've never felt so 'seen ' as on this menu. Around 50% of choices were vegan. Staff were efficient and friendly. My 'very good value ' title is based on comparing this venue to other similar places as well as those more expensive and cheaper. My pizza was HUGE. I couldn 't finish it (unheard of) my Mum 's 'gyro ' was smaller but perfectly substantial for lunch. Of course with more upmarket places you 'd expect to not get as much but perhaps have it of better quality, however this has often been far from my experience! This venue is in the middle and was great. I do not think vegan pizza is tricky to get right, but from other venues I 've suspected that I am wrong. To me It 's just, 'make a pizza but use vegan cheese and meat subs if they want '. Some venues prefer to not use cheese at all -which is fine at times but still feels a bit like a form of 'othering ' and some offer very little in the way of toppings other than veg-again this may suit some people but for me it was uplifting to be able to just order something 'normal '! This is actually the first time I 've been out for vegan pizza and got something fantastic. My Mum loved her 'gyro ' (I 'd not heard of these) too. Very reasonable for drinks-£3 for half a beer and a sparkling water (which was free). Surroundings were great, rustic but clean and well-cared for. Lovely big venue, loos clean and kept up with, nice atmosphere Will definitely recommend. My only one gripe (which may be more personal) was that the place was quite cold. Not somewhere you 'd want to take layers off BUT, I appreciate it is a huge building with high ceilings and would cost a fortune to heat. And not everyone feels the cold as much as me."
