North Norfolk is famed for its stunning coastline, charming villages, and seafood, particularly Cromer crabs, often enjoyed in local eateries or on the scenic beaches.

"Five stars for food, service and atmosphere, our favourite fish chips from frying experts in immaculate state of the art kitchen. We drive over 15 miles round trip past 3 more local chippies to buy these delicious treats. Why just one star? Well I’ve discovered I can no longer order in advance without paying first via a card. Even phoned this evening to ask why and was told it was because people order then don’t show. That’s a problem for me because I’m a regular, I’m being put in the same category as the dishonest and I don’t use credit cards. Besides, my order is always cooked on time but remains on the warming section only being bagged on collection. You’re so busy if you have a no show someone else gets their supper early! So, my Friday night treat is accessible if I turn up and wait…and wait… but I no longer have the privilege of ordering my favourite dishes in advance, I’ll need to clog up the shop and delay the service not just for myself but for other customers by not being able to place an order. It’s turned a win win into a loss. Wouldn’t go to a restaurant a pay in advance or be forced to use a credit card so why in an chippy? Unfortunately I’ll have to vote with my feet."

"We came here late on Friday evening after finishing work and travelling up. We were very thankful they were still serving and they were so accomodating. The restaurant was separate to the pub which made for a nice dining atmosphere and it was well laid...out and really clean- especially good for the current covid climate. The menu had a great selection of foods, both for adults and children. Very accomodating as we're were those awkward people who asked to tweak things and asked for an extra side that wasn't on the menu. The food arrived quickly, the portions were generous and the food was delicious. So tasty and everyone in our party was happy. The best part- the ice cream made on site! The flavours were incredible. Will definitely visit again when we are back in sheringham again."

"We had seen people all week getting pizza from here and the kids had asked for it every time they walked past! We decided to treat the children on Friday night. (20th aug) My husband went to order them and was told it would be a 30min wait.. fair enough it’s a busy time and everywhere else seems to have been closed… only to be told that they had sacked a chef and another had walked out in protest. He waited and the people who had been served after him then got thier pizza with a £10 refund on top for thier wait!!!!! . By this time he had been waiting for just under an hour.. the young girl serving then told him that our order would be another 30mins or we could have our money back. We took the money and walked. I genuinely feel for them if they had staffing issues as is so busy and there is a lot of pressure but our order had clearly been forgotten about and the wait was then over an hour in total with 4 hungry moaning kids to deal with… it’s unacceptable. I ended up giving the kids super noodles and the grown ups had a bowl of cereal! I’ve promised them now they can have a dominoes when we get home… which frustrates me as I always do what I can to support independent businesses. We won’t be going here again as it was entirely unacceptable to waste that much of our time. Such a shame."

"Today our family of 10 enjoyed a superb Sunday Roast at this restaurant. The roast was one of the best we've had, with all fresh homemade dishes that were plentiful. The staff provided first class service, being friendly and helpful throughout our meal. It was quite busy, so I would recommend booking ahead. The food was hot and delicious, with a good selection of vegetables, although some of us didn't care for the red cabbage and peas being mixed together. The desserts were beautiful, with the Boathouse Sundae being a particular favorite, although the rocky road at the bottom was quite hard. The restaurant has a great location by the river, with outdoor tables available and plenty of parking. We would definitely visit again."

"I really enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant, which was dark and foggy with a great atmosphere by the quay. However, I was disappointed to find that the menu on the website only featured sample menus with no prices. When I inquired about the prices at the reception, I was directed elsewhere and found that the minimum charge for a meal was £42, regardless of the number of courses. I found this to be overly complicated and some dishes had additional charges. The food itself was nicely presented and generous in portion size, but I felt it was quite ordinary. The wine list was not very impressive and despite the option to have tea or coffee included, I declined. I was seated at a cramped and uncomfortable table in the corner, while other guests were given better seating arrangements, which left me feeling unwelcome. Overall, I thought the restaurant was okay, but I couldn't shake the feeling that the staff believed it to be better than it actually was. Additionally, the single person supplement for staying at the hotel and my less-than-ideal seating further reinforced my perception that the establishment may not be very welcoming to single diners."

"On entering we were greeted by the friendly smiling person at the bar who then took us to our reserved table. However because the pub was not full, it being early, he said we could sit anywhere we choose. We then had the ordering procedure explained as we had not been before. We then ordered our drinks from the wide selection available and then selected our meal choice from the varied menu and went to the till and ordered and paid. We ordered the rump steak times 2 and asked for both to be medium to well done. The food was very quick coming and was served on a sizzler for the steak, onions and tomato and the chips were on the China dish on the platter with peas in a bowl. We were waited on by a very pleasant lady who then asked if we wanted any other sauces that were not on the table and we ordered english mustard which was bought out very quickly. The meal was lovely with the steaks being cooked just to our liking and they were tasty and juicy. Very good portions and the food was hot. On completion of the main course the plates were cleared away and we then ordered desserts which again were delivered promptly. These were also lovely. We then had coffee and my husband had a wine and whiskey and we could not believe the prices at the bar being very reasonable especially for the wine. We would certainly go again as we thought the pub to be a nice place to visit."

"Visited the Limes for breakfast but sadly the quality of the food and being served on a cold plate for the second time in a month is going to be my last visit there. Bar staff when ordering the meal are very cheerful and friendly but the breakfast was poor . Small pieces of low quality bacon , half a small tomato and a small mushroom and a tasteless sausage. Bulked up by three hash browns and beans. The eggs were only warm against a cold plate, the toast was ok though."

"We ordered Chicken Chow Mein and Beef in Black Bean sauce from this restaurant, and both dishes were served without any vegetables, bean sprouts, or onions. Typically, when we request dishes without vegetables, the portion sizes are smaller. However, this was not the case tonight. In addition to these dishes, we also ordered Peeking Spare Ribs, which were delicious and came with plenty of meat in a flavorful sauce. The Chicken Chow Mein was served in a large container with tasty noodles and chicken. The Ginger Chicken was also flavorful, with tender and juicy chunks of chicken breast. The Salt and Pepper Chicken was crispy and tasty, with chili, salt, pepper, and onions. Overall, the food was delicious, non-greasy, piping hot, and served in good-sized portions. It was also great value for the price. This was our first time ordering from this restaurant, but it certainly won't be our last. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Thank you."
"My wife and I had a wonderful experience at Roy's Boys. The breakfast was fantastic, with well-cooked, high-quality ingredients served piping hot at our table. The staff was friendly and efficient, and we were pleased to find that the restaurant is also dog-friendly. We highly recommend this café and will definitely return if we are in the area again. Plus, the prices are very reasonable."

"We battled our way through wind and rain on Friday night to find it was packed, all tables taken. We hadn’t booked as we only decided last minute. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful, gave us menus, we got a drink and loitered in a corner, and they got us a table as soon as one was available. The food was excellent. I had a lovely vegetable lasagne oozing with feta cheese and my husband was raving about his stuffed, rolled pork. We didn’t have room for pudding but managed to force down a chocolate brownie between us. Unfortunately it was the last night of our holiday but we will be back in the area in June and hope they still have the same chef. The only downside for me is dogs in restaurants, some pubs and cafes have a dog friendly area but not have them in the main area."

"We stayed at the Sea Marge for 2 nights and also had dinner one evening in Frazers and wished we hadn't. The menu is far too large for the produce to be cooked in the kitchen. Prepared yes but our starters were definitely cooked from frozen and the mains were no better than average. The views from the room are quite nice out to the gardens and sea but we were stuck in a corner with no view at all even though there was seating more central that we had assumed was booked for others. It remained available all evening. We had dined at The Saracens Head the night before and thankful we did. Apart from providing burnt toast for Breakfast, the selection available was good and the full English was enjoyable. Maybe the current climate hasn't helped many of these establishments."

"We made our first visit to The Walpole Arms following the recommendation of friends. It was a lovely sunny day and lots of people were seated outside. We had a quiet inside table and appreciated the cool atmosphere. Once our drinks has been brought, we ordered roasts and they arrived promptly. However, there was quite a gap between the arrival of our plates of meat and the supporting vegetables. By the time we got to eat, the meat had cooled. The food was well cooked and there were plenty of vegetables and lots of gravy to enjoy. After our plates had been cleared, we ordered desserts but, this time, the wait was considerable and then they were delivered in drabs and drabs. Again the food as excellent. Overall the ambience was great; the food was excellent but the service was poor. Meanwhile, everyone was very friendly which pushed the overall score up from 'average ' to 'good '! On getting home, I discovered that a 10% service charge had been added to our bill. We were not told about this at the time and if I 'd known I would not have added a substantial tip!"

"We were staying locally for a short break and the Mrs remembered coming here about 25 years ago so we thought we would try the carvery as a nostalgic return. Everything was pretty much as she remembered, sadly almost exactly as she remembered ! The staff were pleasant but the hotel itself was so dated. We had our dog with us and stayed in the 'restaurant ' area. Think more cheap cafe than hotel restaurant. The carvery was actually in the 70 's style function room. I tried a couple of meats that clearly needed re-hydrating with gravy. The roast potatoes were way under cooked and the vegetables had seen better times. The stuffing was probably just a packet of Paxo with hot water added, not even cooked. We tried the soggy and chewy batter pancakes which I thought were maybe a local delicacy, but no, they were in fact the Yorkshire puddings! On the plus side, the mash was ok and the pieces of crackling quite pleasant. It was fairly cheap and the Mrs, who is a veggie, got a pound off for not having meat.In summary, it was really poor. Not something we would recommend or return to. There are better around including doing a roast at home. Sadly, a disappointing return to a childhood memory."
