"We called in here Saturday evening for a drink, with a view to have some food if we liked the menu. We hadn't been back here for a long while, even though we live locally, but had been meaning to revisit. We chose something off the bar menu and we were not disappointed. It was probably the best gammon I had had in a long time, and what I really liked was that the egg and pineapple was served together and you weren't forced to choose between the two as is most often the case. I dont like peas, but was kindly asked if I wanted an alterative, so I chose salad and it was delicious, fresh, full of colour and came with a gorgeous dressing. My husband had the burger and this was also very nice. The food was served up very nicely and just tasted absolutely delicious, the home made onion rings were lovely. It was modern pub food, traditional but updated and fresh. The drinks were also served nicely, my wine was in a lovely big glass, nicely chilled and very tasty. The landlord came over and had a word which was a nice touch and the service was excellent. Its also great to see basket meals on the menu. My only critisism is that the place lacks polish, the car park/garden at the back looks a bit shabby, it needs attention to detail, more colour, perhaps some nice planted tubs/ baskets etc. there was a broken pot and quite a bit of rubbish around, however I know they have suffered a flood and are in the middle of refurbishing. The bar was clean and nicely decorated but not sure about the overall style, seems to be a clash of different styles, however still a nice ambience. We wont be leaving it so long to revisit next time!"

"visited here during the stay at the hotel, and to be honest, it was a bit disappointing for me. my colleagues suggested eating in the nearby royal oak pub. the menu did not look particularly good, and it was hard to find 2 courses for under £20.00, most brasserie restaurants offer a fixed price 2 curs meal. So I started with sweet soup, this was served with 2 pieces dry brown brot, no sign of butter, suppe was ok brot as described. for the main I had the chicken caesar salat, this was served with brot crooutons, just piece of brot crushed! a new one on me, I was complaining and was sent some boiled, this is so basic for a 4 restaurant that I was actually shocked, only lazy in the kitchen, probably watching england lose on ipads to pay the correct attention what they were serving! the salate itself was quietly delicious. fine margins! 2 courses with a 175ml glass hausrose was close to £25.00, as a business traveler that was worth bad for me. at the review in i got a drink voucher, for a 175 ml glass house wine, at the bar I asked for a rose, then I asked if I could pay the difference to get a 250 glass, this should have been about £2.00, I was a five for the extra 75 ml this price the pinot at £50 a bottle! hard good customer service! to be fair, it was removed in the morning at the review, but the whole dinner with the wine-fiaco was overwhelming for a 4star establishment. it will be the royal oak next time I stay here."
