"We are trying to be more healthy and do more walks in the local area. We live in Crosby but decided to head to Parbold for a countryside walk. We did a lovely walk along the canal tow path and into fairy Glen and decided we would have lunch on the way back. I had asked my son to google where was nice to eat in Parbold and he suggested the Stocks Tavern. When we arrived we noticed other people who had been walking the route were sitting at outside tables as it was a lovely day. We decided to eat inside and as soon as we arrived a very nice lady came over and sorted a table for us and was very welcoming. The pub was very pleasant inside and clean and fresh. We ordered a starter and main each. I had the gin cured chargrilled salmon starter and I can honestly say I have eaten in many of the fine dining restaurants in the area and around the world and I have never had such a refreshing and beautiful salmon starter. The chef obviously is very talented and knows what he is doing. The little parcels pf G and T granita and also the fresh crumble in your mouth croutons were worthy of a Michelin starred restaurant in my opinion and the salmon itself was of outstanding quality. The other meals were of a very high standard and the service was also excellent. I would definitely visit again and it was a very good experience all round. It was very busy on a Monday lunchtime and we arrived quite late into the lunchtime service which I suppose says it all really. Highly recommend."

"We eat here weekly due to how good it is and today we had the fish pie and my partner had the steak burger. The burger was thick and full of taste and the bun fresh. We ordered onion rings and an extra chips too. The batter on the onion rings is so good. They melt in your mouth. So he was very happy with the burger. Now onto the fish pie…it was absolutely amazing! So many chunks of fish and prawns and in a creamy sauce. It is presented so well with mash on top in a pot and I think it maybe have had cheese on top too. There doesn’t look much but there really is and it’s really filling. We washed the meal down with Shiraz and Guinness and it was just lovely. They brought us a jug of water too. I decided to have a pudding and chose the egg custard with panettone. Wow! It was the nicest puddling I’ve ever had. Creamy egg custard and it was like sugared chewy toasted panettone cubes on the top. Just heaven. We retired to the bar which was busy with all kinds of characters and that’s what we like about this place you can wear what you want and feel comfortable. We are boaters so live in jeans/outdoor wear, jumpers and body warmers , but you have people dressed in evening wear, some in high visibility work clothes you name it everyone is dressed comfortable. Friendly staff as always and really attentive to detail so always know when your glass is empty. Only one minus here is that lots of people stand at the bar in the way which can be awkward when trying to get to it to get your own drinks but they are really friendly and polite so move over for you. No animosity here at all. We LOVE it! Thank you."

"Party of 3, first time eating at the coach house as was recommended on Facebook. One of the starters came out incorrect after checking they had this right numerous times. This was however immediately changed. When mains came out they didn 't even look nice, 2 of us had ordered chicken and the other steak. The roast potatoes with the chicken looked and tasted although they had been cooked hours prior and reheated in a microwave and the chicken was extremely extremely dry. Even the gravy didnt help with the dryness. The steak had an unexplainable taste and the peppercorn sauce was like 'piss water '. The whole meal was left after a mouthful, and a waste of £17. The waiter could see that the meals had barely been touched and looked shocked when one of us told her the food was discusting. No apologies and a review form was only given as we asked for this. The Service after we told them about this was diabolical as the food was left uncollected for about 25 minutes and we were barely approached at all, it seemed they were avoiding us untill be left. Still no apologies or gestures offered even by the owner of the place who was sat at the bar and aware of the situation. Would definatly not recommend the place for food. Just a massive waste and left the place knowing we would have to go home to cook which was not the plan. This is not something we like to do, as we like to go out to enjoy our food not have to complain about it."
