"Visited for the first time today at Lunchtime, dining companion had been some time ago. Plenty of available tables on arrival, on entry the background music stood out, it was far too loud, the young waitress showed us to a table. Instantly we realised we had a speaker directly above us couldn 't hear our own voices,so asked if we could move further away. Our conversation still had to compete with the music which was frustrating...I would suspect the majority of diners like to communicate over their meal. A good varied menu choice, though only having mains, it did seem to take some time considering your pub wasn 't busy. The food was hot (plates too and very tasty, my dining companion finished his meal first, the waitress approached the table asked for second time was all OK took his plate.I was still finishing my meal. That waitress should have come back when both had finished eating, they should always wait until the party have all finished. There is nothing worse than a person being left eating plates being removed. Though 'silver service ' hardly exists in eating establishments these days, this is a definite no,no, hence the 3 stars.Would hope this is fedback to all staff."

Booked in last minute, lovely meal. The pork scratching straws were magic. Love it, be there again soon.

Absolutely superb. The ox cheek was so tender and fell apart. The mash was light and fluffy. The pizzas were great too. Top banana View menu

An awesome country pub with a warm welcome and good food. Would of been 5 stars on food but portion sizes are a little small for a pub!

While working in Parbold on a rainy day, I stopped by the Windmill Pub for a Mocca. The barmaid, Pauline, was lovely and provided a ray of sunshine on such a dreary day. She was friendly and funny, making my visit enjoyable. I will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you.

The food at the restaurant was excellent and the portion sizes were generous. However, the service was disappointing. Initially, we were greeted by a friendly young woman, but it seemed like she left or went on break soon after and no one took over. We waited a long time with dirty plates on our table and had to repeatedly request basic items. There were significant issues with the baby changing facilities as well, as they were only available in the women's restrooms and were inconveniently located above a toilet in a small cubicle.

"ok… I have deliberated whether to write this as don’t like to be negative but I think this place can take it so here goes… My husband booked a meal as a Christmas pressie this as I have always wanted to go to a michelin star restaurant and this is quite local to us. We arrived at The Barn which is quite basic in appearance as the downstairs looks like several saunas due to the amount of wood on show. Upstairs was nice and attractive. The staff are efficient but the whole set up is bit ‘cold’ and unfriendly. The staff were not particularly engaged; maybe this is how they were trained to be? The food consisted of amuse bouche which tbh didn’t really taste of much and this was a theme for the whole menu unfortunately. The homemade bread was delicious but the other offerings were tasteless and needed seasoning. -trout mousse in a lemon broth, including pips, was tasteless and the mussel mousse on pikelet didn’t taste of mussels. anyhow on to the main event-we ordered partridge -chewy and tasteless, the cured sea bream not seasoned sufficiently. The meals looked delicious-style over taste? Then the mains-my deer was tender and delicious but the sauces didn’t taste of much-I had to check the menu to see what they were meant to be. My husband ordered the steak-now at £62 this should have been SOME steak- what a shame it wasn’t -it was just a sirloin, bit chewy, not that great. Deffo not worth £62 of taste! It wasn’t caramelised on the outside and abit sinewy. The bone marrow bearnaise sauce was tasty though. Now I like cooking, I like food , I cook fresh meals every night but I’m not a chef. My first experience of food at this level… I will stick to local restaurants WITHOUT michelin stars at a fraction of the price -tbh I prefer my own home cooked meals! Is this a case of the emperors new clothes? Do people just think it’s good because they are told by someone else it’s fantastic? I’m disappointed in the experience at The Barn. Bit of a wash out and I will be asking for a meal at Bistro Verite in Birkdale next Christmas probs at a fraction of the price!"
