"We love the Punchbowl..brought friends and it didn’t disappoint!One observation is, however...we would like to have eaten outside as it was a lovely day.But the wooden tables had benches and we are all in our sixties and find it uncomfortable with no back rests.The small tables and chairs were adequate for snacks but not meals for 4.So, better outside seating would be great!"

"Honestly this place needs to hire friendlier staff. Two of them were completely unsuitable, especially one of the managers on the floor. Couldn't wait to walk away within seconds of serving the table. I mean when you ask someone how the food is, at least try and pretend you're listening to the answer! When we ask for black pepper....we mean freshly ground pepper....not the cheap stuff you leave on the table. Food took a while to arrive (25mins) when we asked for everything (starters and mains) to come at the same time. I don't know why you get penalised whenever we go for this option but that was a let down. Food was well cooked and enjoyable but the experience was not great. And back to the useless manager when we ask for a receipt after paying with a credit card, we want the credit card receipt not the pre printed bill with the list of items ordered."

"Popped in for some food before a gig in town. The fixed menu at £11.95 for two courses excellent value and it wasn’t basic dishes I had calamari and steak bavette with rocket/basil/Parmesan. Couple of draught beers that weren’t on the menu that were worth checking out. A lager and a hoppier version as well. The location of the restaurant right at Momument ideal for a grab of food on a night out. Service was sometimes less attentive than it could be but overall a nice meal to start the night with."

"Absolutely disappointed beyond belief. Why even bother opening and advertising that they do food? We really should have walked straight back out the door upon entering. But we had read reviews and really wanted to try this place. The staff were disinterested. Pointed to a table where we were to sit for our evening meal. We were given what can only be described as filthy sticky pieces of paper that were supposed to represent a menu. The table was dirty and sticky with drink stains. Nevertheless we proceeded to order 3 main meals. Over an hour later we still had no food and not once did anyone come over to the table to explain why. The place was by no means busy. There were 4 tables with customers! After approximately an hour and 10 minutes we asked if there was a time that we could expect our food to be ready. Bearing in mind our order was for baby back ribs, a steak burger and a chicken skewer. So not overly complicated. We were told that there was only 1 chef working!. And that the manageress would go and check for us. She returned to say that food would be ready in 5 minutes. Approximately 10 minutes later the baby ribs and steak burger arrived. We had to wait a further 5 minutes for the chicken skewer meal. When it did arrive the chicken was cold and absolutely cremated. So much so that the chicken itself had started to disintegrate and a powder of charcoal remains were on the plate. Absolutely disgusting and inedible. Our entire party left all the food and we went to the bar to pay and left. Disgusted, disappointed, disillusioned and would NEVER RETURN"

"Chose this restaurant because it was supposed to be good for watching the NYE fireworks, and they had a set menu. We had one of the greenhouses on the roof which we were initially excited about. However, of the 5 courses of the set menu they only brought us three (those three were delicious though). When we told them about it, they said it was too late and the kitchen had closed. They also forgot to bring the bottle of wine that we ordered though they didn't forget to add it to the bill. When we pointed out that we didn't get half of what the bill showed, they took off an amount that was nowhere near equal to what we didn't get. They also messed up our coffee order, and again charged us for it (we got it taken off eventually). Lastly, please know that the view of the fireworks from this rooftop is far away and restricted as there are 2 big buildings blocking the full view, and you do not get the full effect."

"I have to say that the quality of food was top class. I had the rump steak medium rare and it was absolutely perfect. My partners meal salmon from the specials range was also of a high quality but there was hardly enough to feed a sparrow and at we thought was very expensive for the meagre amount on the plate. They did redeem themselves however, when, after complaining, they gave her a portion of chips and took off the bill. I would certainly recommend them if you are out for something special and don't mind the expense, but if you are just going out for an evening meal then there are other less expensive venues but I will add that it is highly unlikely that you will get better quality food"

"I had made a reservation for a birthday dinner for six people on a Thursday evening, only to arrive and find the restaurant closed due to some issue with the kitchens. There was no one available to speak to, just a note on the door. I was disappointed that they didn't contact me by email to inform me of the closure, as it would have saved us the trip. We ended up going to Davanti in Tynemouth instead. Needless to say, we will not be returning to the original restaurant in the future."

"Two friends and myself visited Fratelli's last week It was absolutely lovely. We were all pleased with our meals. Spaghetti Carbonara is a particular favourite of mine, and it didn't disappoint! In fact I would say it was one of the best I've ever had. The food was served in good time, was all really tasty, and the restaurant was lovely. "We ate here as a family on Saturday July There were adults, one five year old and a baby. The restaurant is our local, just down the road so we know it well It has a nice family atmosphere, busy but not noisy, and friendly. The staff are attentive and cheerful but not pushy. The service is good, even when busy. The owner is very hands on and greets everyone. We chose the rioja wine which was gorgeous. The house wines are good too from past experience. The starters, pizzas and pasta are excellent and good value. Tasty and well cooked. In comparison the mains and specials can be overpriced and the portions quite small, although flavoursome. Two of our party had them and were a bit disappointed. Our pizza, the Anacapri, unusually,was a bit lack lustre, undercooked and not very tasty. Usually they are really good. However it didn’t spoil our evening and we all enjoyed it, especially the children. Nobody minds them walking about and they get special attention."

"I’m a big fan of this restaurant. Pea and fontina fritters were delicious, super crispy squid and a good marguerita pizza though I would have liked a little more topping and a bit less crust. Service was super attentive and charming. When we came in we were tempted by a refreshing goblet of aperol spritz we saw another customer drinking. It was so good I ordered a second which came in a tumbler. Not the same drink at all, the proportions were all wrong. Staff told me they only had 2 goblets and it was ‘ not company policy’ to serve them in the goblets! Really! What a shame as it ruined the drink. The lady on the next table sent her tumbler back, good on her. Please listen to your customers, invest in a few more decent glasses You will sell more if the drink is good and your customers will be happy ."

"After an awful journey taking 4 hours we met up with 4 other far traveled friends to begin a holiday nearby . we had done our research and booked Lunch several weeks ahead explaining we all had a long journey and time may be an issue. The welcome we had was superb, nothing was too much trouble for us weary travelers and the chef even stayed longer so we 6 could eat . Fantastic beautiful meal indeed and well worth the traffic chaos (I struggled to finish) the pies were superb, and pork loin melted in the mouth.Lots of local information from the manageress was invaluable and helped us. The location is fabulous . So much going on in this pub. every night something different. be sure to visit . we will definitely be going again when visit the area next time we would recommend this every time. "Lovely experience overall, our waiter was friendly, attentive and gave great recommendations for food. We went straight after work (just before 6.30 on a Thursday) so it was a little busy but not overcrowded. A mixed crowd as there were families, couples, friends solo diners younger kids were a little loud but not a huge issue I’d say as everyone’s chatting! Great value for money overall as we had wine, starter and a big main which was all under £25 would recommend and would go again!"

"A very , very disappointing experience. The waiter was apparently new, so fair to give him a chance, but we held our breath to see if our margarita cocktail turned into a pizza…….after a long wait we were pleasantly surprised to receive a drink though where the tequila went, who knows? The main courses both involved risotto which was more like wallpaper paste than any rice dish. The manager was eager to make amends, so opted for a couple of salads…….yes they were edible and the prawn one had more prawns than the risotto! Truly terrible not a place that we will ever revisit!"

"We ended up here by chance having never been before. Will definitely be making this one of our favourites. The 2 and three course lunch menus were a lovely suprise from the usual choices. For starter mum and I had the spinach pancakes in a prawn and cheese sauce. Main for me was a whole grilled trout superbly cooked. Dessert was a really excellent cream caramel. "Dinner here was supposed to be one of the highlights of a week away over Christmas. Sadly did not live up to the expectation. The main reason being that as soon as we five were seated, we were given a list of menu options of what was no longer available. In 40 years I have never faced a list of missing options in any restaurant, perhaps the odd 1 or 2 options. Disappointment was compounded by the wholly inappropriate excuse that there was insufficient food because it was Christmas!! What remained of the evening was OK, food was OK and the service was good. All in all, it was a let down. Recommend that the management up their game with regards to menu planning and food ordering in the future."
