"I usually come here for lunch with a friend, but I was disappointed during my last visit. The restaurant was busy, with many young children at nearby tables. However, the service was lacking and the food did not meet my expectations. It appeared that they were short-staffed as we struggled to get anyone's attention to place our order or ask for the bill. Our meals were overcooked, which may have been due to them sitting on a heated plate for too long. Although the food wasn't terrible enough to complain and ask for a replacement, the overall experience has made me reconsider whether I will come back or look for another dining option."

"Just had to take the time to write a quick review about the yew tree, we arranged to meet some friends for an annual post Christmas get together, 15 of us in total a mix of couples and small children, we spent a few hours locally and I’d booked a table the day previously, on arrival we we’re greeted and shown though to our own private dining area! Perfect! We spent 3 hours there in total, food, drinks and deserts. No issues, all food arrived hot and together, we had a wonderful afternoon and felt really happy and comfortable whilst there. Thankyou."

"What a great family run pub! Eclectic clientele of all ages. Friendly welcome, with super attentive staff. Great food with a huge nod to their South African roots, but great traditional fare too. Smallish menu but that’s because everything is cooked fresh, be patient it’s worth the wait. If not go to the local Spoons or Harvester, you’d fit right in!!! There is a good selection of traditional ales, Peroni and Bira Moretti on tap for the more discerning lager drinkers, the Guinness is excellent too. If you ask nicely they’ll make you an Old Fashioned as well! These guys work really hard with regular quiz, DJ and live music events with a really chilled and friendly vibe. Great that my GF lives just around the corner … legendary for a local."

"one of my favorite fish chips places. perfectly deep roasted dorsch and a delicious wineic acid sauce! your lunch specialist comes with the twisted kartoffel and the glass wein (or beer if they prefer) to an amazing worth. the tartaric acid sauce is prepared better than most others. at my second visit I decided to change the grilled fish and that was also absolutely delicious. the personal is very friendly and accommodating. simply recommend this place that prepares consistently delicious food."

"We booked this restaurant through open table and was disappointed overall. The menu was not the same menu as shown through open table, it was extremely limited. However our party settled on the panko coated aubergine salad, the Cajun burger and the banyan currizza. The salad was enjoyable, the burgers Cajun coating was soggy and the currizza, which came with one of the curries of the day on top of a naan bread and melted mozzarella was cold. We notified one of two members of staff at front of house and this was dealt with straight away and very professionally. The rest of the party had finished eating by the time my dish was returned but it was kindly removed from the bill at the end. For this I would probably return, although it's more of a brunch time place, don't be swayed by the online menu."

"The service was lovely at My Thai but unfortunately everything else was not. The food was not thai food. It was as if someone googled a thai food menu and attempted to copy dishes but didn't read the actual ingredients. Seriously lacking flavour. The music was extremely loud, which caused everyone to yell in order to hear each other, making the dining room even louder. Also, €16 for a papaya salad is absurd. Especially when it's not an authentic thai papaya salad. Shame. But, other people seemed to enjoy it, so if you aren't looking for real thai food and enjoy the night-club ambiance for your dinner, this may be somewhere you'd like!"

"Genuinely couldn't fault the experience. When I heard that the Drouthy had a new menu focusing more on a veggie and vegan base, I knew I had to give it a whirl. The starter of hot Smoked salmon with lemon creme fraiche and oatcakes was simple yet packed full of flavour. I could have easily have had 10 plates of that and been happy to give it 5 stars. My partner had the smoked duck and even though I have given up meat, I was salivating at the look of their dish. They assure me that it was as delicious as it looked. Served with lavender roasted potatoes (which I'm told were amazing and charred salsify. The mains were more than a match for the brilliant starters. If I could give one piece of advice, it would be get the beetroot risotto. Not being a massive fan of beetroot, I wasn't too sure about it. But the incredibly warm waiter (for my son's, I never got his name. I only hope he can forgive me if he reads this! assured me it was tasty. He was not wrong. Beautifully cooked vegan risotto with balsamic beetroot chunks, shiitake mushrooms and rocket, it was simply divine. WHEN I go back, I'll be hard pressed to go for anything else because it was so delicious. It was creamy, packed full of flavour and cooked absolutely perfectly. Just the right amount of bite, nowhere near being mush like you get in a lot of other places (who charge a lot more, by the way . Superb. The highest of compliments to the chef. I was so taken by my dish I forgot to ask how my partner's was until I had eaten all of mine. But their home made vegan tagliatelle had disappeared from the plate so it must have been amazing. I couldn't handle dessert so had a delicious ruby port (delaforce I think it was called , and I would also like to give credit to whoever came up with their wine list. It covered every single base and no-one could ever be disappointed. Finally, if you're ever in Elgin, please make sure this is one of your destinations. You will leave extremely happy."

"For a lovely, welcoming and friendly pub that also make excellent cocktails The Travellers Friend is hard to beat. We also enjoyed returning for their Sunday Lunch which was excellent, one of the best we have had. Service professional and efficient, with very generous portions and everything cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend The Travellers Friend for drinks, cocktails and food. All the team here from chefs, bar and restaurant work incredibly hard and know their menus and are an absolute joy! We were all made to feel so welcome, this is going to become our local pub. Thank you."

"We were welcomed on our arrival my a cheery young girl behind the bar (no name, blue hair) who was friendly and helpful. We were a party of 5 plus a baby visiting for lunch, we were offered a choice of tables which unfortunately we had to wipe down with wet wipes and the beer soaked sticky chairs needed wiping before we could sit down. Great that high chairs were provided (also needed wiping down from food residue) our party included a vegetarian, GF, egg/dairy free and these were adequately catered for. The meals were ‘nice’ but unlikely to be freshly prepared and had a reheated vibe but the quantity and quality was reflected in the price and it was tasty. Baby changing as impossible given the size of the toilets but this was easily resolved by changing him in his pram. The Tap and Spile is in a great location just off the pier and handy for a spot of cheap lunch."

"As two mummies of young boys (her of two, me of one), Emily and I couldn’t have chosen a better day to plan our overnight escape to Melville Castle, which is located on the Southern tip of Edinburgh towards Dalkeith. The sun was virtually splitting the trees as we drove up the private approach road, and as it happens, trees are something the lush grounds are pretty flush with, the bucolic setting a mere 8 miles from the city centre. A neo-gothic mansion house, it was designed by James Playfair (brother of William) and built between 1786-90 for Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville. By the 1980s the building had been abandoned and was in ruin, later bought and restored in the 1990s by developer William Hay who wanted to bring the property back to life and run it as a hotel venue."

"What a find! We stumbled across this pub on the way home from Marwell zoo. The staff and the customers (I assume locals) were incredibly friendly! We had a noisy 18 month old with us and everyone was so sweet with her and chatting to us. The garden is set up with some Lego and a little sandpit for children which is a lovely touch. Our food then arrived….beautiful! Really good food and the portions are huge!! We will definitely make a point of stopping by here again. What a find"

"found this scenic little caffe below one of the backstreets right at the main square. the photos of the breakfast look very appetizing for a full English with gazed potatoes. server was pleasant enough. we have breakfast for American style and medium. the food came in separate, my wife received her five minutes after mine. a little knock was that during these five minutes other tables were served. I found that the speck on my teller was missing what was in the did a blessing in trim, because I can honestly say that this is the only time that I have eaten speck with absolutely no taste. a few other points, two of the pancakes of my wife were hard and unusable, the beautified ptotatoes from the photo were just cooked. in the did was the only article on the plate with great taste the sausage. this was a disappointment given the other independent caffes and restaurants that norwich has to offer."

"I've enjoyed some wonderful lunches and dinners here recently under the new management. I decided to give their Sunday roast a try, and it was fantastic! They offered a great selection of chicken, lamb, pork, and roast beef. The portions of meat were generous, the vegetables were fresh, and the roast potatoes were perfectly cooked—crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The staff were attentive, friendly, and very helpful. I highly recommend this pub for lunch, dinner, or an evening meal."

"When it came to our wine, it was simply placed on the table with two glasses, and the manager left without offering to pour, taste, or even confirm that it was the wine we had selected. After our starters, we were given the option to move to a higher table, but it was still surrounded by soft seating, and we found ourselves needing additional cushions from a nearby sofa, yet still ended up dining at almost knee level. The food was good overall, although serving fish and chips in a wire basket wasn’t the most practical choice. The small pot of wine sauce was only one-third full, which felt a bit stingy. That said, the seafood chowder was delicious, and the Thai curry was also quite tasty. Unfortunately, no one checked back with us after serving our meals to see if we were satisfied, and we were only approached once we finished eating to see if we wanted anything else."
