"There are very few tables for eating as you would expect in a restaurant. Most of the tables are coffee table style and height with sofas and armchairs which do not make for a comfortable sitting position for a meal at all. There is a function room adjacent which is not used for anything but afternoon teas and this was not allowed for evening dining after asking for an appropriate height table. Staff stated that when booking the meal we should have asked for a proper height table!!!!!! That option is not available through Open table. Ordered wine and it was simply set on the table with two glasses and the manager just walked off without offering to taste or pour or even confirm that was the wine we chose. After our starters we were offered to move to a higher table to find that it was surrounded by soft armchairs which required extra cushions from a nearby sofa to try and raise the seating position not very successful and ended up eating dinner at almost chin level. Food was good although whilst it looked nice, trying to eat fish and chips from a wire basket was not ideal. Small pot of tartare sauce was only 1/3 full. Seafood chowder was delicious as was the Thai curry. Nobody followed up after serving to see if the food was to our satisfaction and we were only approached once when we had finished eating to see if we wanted anything else."

Poor enough service. Had to wait 20 mins for a pint of Guinness. No one took empty glasses from table or asked how we were enjoying our food. We expected more given the location, so a tad disappointing. View menu

We really enjoyed our night here! Unfortunately we ran a bit late due to weather but the hostess was amazing and made sure we still got our table. Staff where so attentive even though they were so busy and the food was amazing! Will 100% be back

What sells this place is the service and the ambience. Highly priced for what you get. Could do a little better with the expensive meal options. Looked like a lunch from local deli and the sides are not included in your meal price which makes for a very expensive sandwich and chips. The waiters were lovely.

Dining room was beautiful and waiters were all very polite but the service was very, very slow. Asked online if there was a special occasion. Told them it was my daughter’s 18th. There was no mention of it from anyone at the Hotel, so why ask online in the first place?? I would definitely go back though as the food and red ale was great and it is a nice piece of history to dine in. View menu

Stunning venue.. I absolutely love the Drawing Rooms been several times and has always been excellent. This time round I left disappointed. The service was absolutely disgraceful .. Was sat down at the table and left there for at least 15 mins before anyone came over with a menu had to go up and get my own drink .. Asked for water twice at the meal and when it did arrive we had finished our meal. Bill didn't arrive so I went up to bar and stood there until one of the team rang it through at the till ...

we ate on a satellit. the room is beautiful, but the table we were placed on was too low and too small. the service was very slow, but eating was nice. I feel that the addition of background music to the thema of the place would be a useful supplement. the tabulars mentioned should be replaced. they sit on a common set. while there were some other tables, most of whom I saw were of the above type. the restaurant is only lacking atmosphere. the staff could be a bit more attractive. No one checked if we would enjoy our lunch. it was just that they are ready to order, all finished. I expected more professionalism.

"enjoyed our evening in james st it was the best culinary experience of our trip! we had been happy to see this evening as we had a few hit-N-seals in the course of our trip to belfast. we were not disappointed and had the fabulous evening. we were quickly welcomed and sitting. the place is beautiful and spacious. revitalized and environment. the bar is great and would like to come back, only for drinks at the bar sometime. we ordered cocktails immediately. an Irish gin negroni and a traditional old fashion. my neger was absolutely excellent. I think the old fashion could have been done with real sugar cubes and not sugar syrup, but it wasn't too bad. we were quick to choose our wein. we chose a beautiful juicy red, the cline, the old vine zinfandel, 2019. to begin we had the ham hock terrine with piccalilli champ bread and some scallops with boar bell. the hanging-hock court was the best ham-hock I had. the homemade piccalilli was something else. really nice crispy and sharp sharp to help cut through the hammock and the champbrot was delicious crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. the scallops and black bells were disappointing, as they lacked no salt or genuine aroma or texture between them. we still ate it and shared the rest of my hammock. we both decided to go for the co. tyrone 270g fillet steak with sides of champ and truffle parmesan chips. red wine and pfeffer sauce. they were fantastic steaks. Actually, I didn't think I would finish mine, but I did. I have met the right choice with the jus and the truffle chips. they went so well together, the dryness of the parmesan and sweet, slightly greasy of the jus. the steaks were perfectly cooked. a medium and my medium rare. fantastic aroma on the grilled outside of the steak and beautiful texture when they pierce. we both agreed that the champ was the best champ we ever cost. it was hot, soft, so well aromatized with hot butter on the top of the copper serving pot melt. it was really the most incredible champ. I was too full of dessert. but my sample ordered the sticky toffee pudding sundae. the team was friendly enough to make me an espresso martini that was both decaf and not a sugar syrup. it was brilliant. we both managed to work our way, although a surprisingly light sticky toast desserts on Sunday. the team was fantastic. very friendly and chatting to us. the bar team did not stop, I had the pleasure of standing and watching them make a great selection of drinks and cocktails. the waiting staff were also very friendly when they check in with us at comfortable places to ensure that we were in order. we felt very well looked around. the service was very good, we didn't feel any hurry, it felt like such a free time in this restaurant. when we come back to belfast, we will be back in absolute terms and we will definitely recommend others. Thank you."
