"We use to come here years ago and loved the place. I’m not sure what has happened but I was not overly impressed with this place. The dish I ordered was not tasteful and felt like a complete chore to eat. Before when ordering shelled fish the chef would cut a little in the crab shell to make a little easier to access the meat. The sauce was too much and very bland, nothing garlic about it. We were seated in a corner and directly behind us was a table for two. I was praying that no one would sit behind us as it would make it hard for anyone to move. Unfortunately, some was seated behind us and it was a tight squeeze for everyone. I had to go to the bathroom the poor gentleman who was sitting behind me had to retract his elbows, whist eating, to allow me to pass by him. The same for his companion, who had to disturb me to get by. In all not a comfortable meal or an enjoyable one at all."

"we decided to share some pages: tempoura garnel, sweet rolls and Satay chicken. the king prawns were slender and slightly coated in the tempura lightbatter. a soy-and-wasabi-dipping sauce was the perfect companion to the four garnels. the mini spring rolls came in a part of six. They were deep fried, but not fat. simply beautiful and crispy with a delicious carrot and cauliflower. they were served with sweet chilli dip. the satay huh, marinated and on spits, came with a spicy erdnuss sauce that was absolutely delicious."

"Last weekend my wife’s family held a gathering of sorts at the Mulberry Tree in Braintree. The food was possibly the worst I’ve eaten and was as far from being reasonably priced as it could be. All the little locals are now owned by chains and we pay our hard earned for frozen nuggets and chips sat with groupon vouchered benefit family’s glued to their phones whilst their half bred kids run riot and then there’s the staff of whom we are an inconvenience to. So when my sister in law and her boyfriend of whose family supply most of the genuine restaurants in the Essex and Suffolk areas with their meat instead of brake bros, they happened to mention the Vine in Great Bardfield. With my 10 year old son racing locally and friends attending to spectate we soon got talking about lunch? We happened to mention the Vine and once the track action finished we were quickly making our way to sunny Great Bardfield. The Vine looks like a traditional pub from the front and has parking accessed via the side entrance. There was a large garden with tables and play area for the kids to play. The restaurant itself is small with a quirky feel and the staff not only very welcoming but they can talk by opening and closing their mouths. There is no pre booking (according to the website) and we arrived unannounced as a group of 7 and got seated right away. The menus were clean and the food has different names so you can read it and not opt for the usual default setting so many of us so often do. We opted for Disco Brisket and The classic burgers, fries on the side with additional onion rings, mozzarella bites and a double portion of chicken wings. The kids had burgers too and this is where things for me set the standard as my youngest of whom is on occasions fussy with his food ate the whole thing before insisting it was the best burger he had eaten. I have to agree as do our friends. The portions were large enough to request a box for the chicken wings to take home, of which when asked the staff were obliging. We had an extremely nice meal with drinks and the bill was a little over £100. The Vine not only exceeded my expectations but has set the bar for other restaurants to catch up or end up as yet another curry house. Cannot wait to return for what will be an adult only evening and my only negative comment was not trying the desserts. The nearest ice cream to us is a drive to Thurrock or to Snugburys in Cheshire so a milk shake or rare flavoured ice cream would be 10/10"

"came here with my friend for a catch up as heard this place was good. Place was absolutely dead so didn't have high hopes however the server was so lovely and catering. I ordered the fat pig burger which had pulled pork in it and it was amazing- best burger ever. I also had the chilli beef loaded fries which were yummy too and the showstopper for me was the onion rings- they were fab. Portion sizes are huge so will keep this in mind for my next visit. totally recommend and not bad priced also"

"my partners arrived eating, not a sign of me. a woman who seemed more superior came after a past and asked what my order was. first, a false head office arrived, which had to be sent back. my head finally arrived, and one side soon came after. I thought it was my veggie gyozas, but only after eating one, I realized that it was actually black. I ate them because my eating was already so delayed and I'm not a vegetarian anyway. only when I had finished my main page, a part of the veggie gyozas appeared, which we refused, and said I had already got mine (art! and one because later came another, which we also rejected. I was for my main command, but really there was so much chaos around me, I think we had more composed. my partner cha han donburi came without an early onshore or pickles, so it was quite bland, and we were really very excited to try mochis for the rest of time and they were also not great. we left the waiting time to order our dessert and even longer to get our bill. a real shame, as we would look so much forward to our journey to wagamamas, as there are no one in the city in which we live."

"We had a tasty lunch today. We shared some salt n pepper chicken wings they were delicious. I had a cheese and bacon burger which was OK, the bun was very chewy and the burger wasn’t to my taste, it wasn’t meaty enough. The corn on the cob and coleslaw which my husband let me have from his meal were really good and our fries were perfect. My husband said his brisket was tasty but there was a bit too much treacle sauce, it would be better if the extra sauce came in a pot, allowing a person to add more if needed. We left just enough room for the banana bread toffee pudding, the tinder yummy and the rum n raisin ice cream was excellent. The service was very good and we would dine there again."

"The pub has a charming appearance and it's great that they allow dogs. However, the food was disappointing. The Sunday menu was limited, with only a choice of roast or fish and chips for mains. We decided on a sandwich but it was missing some ingredients and the bread was dry. When we asked about the missing parts, they were brought out in a small dish and looked like scraps. The roast pork sandwich had only 2 slices, which were mainly fat and not edible. No one came to see how we were doing during our meal. The gravy strangely tasted like baked beans. It's unfortunate to leave a negative review, but our experience was a letdown. I'd recommend stopping by for a drink instead."

PORK BELLY PRATICALLY RAW, WHEN I ASKED THE WAITRESS I WAS TOLD THE CHEF COULDN'T DO IT COZ THE BEEF WAS PRE-COOKED AND IT WAS ALL LIKE THAT. THE PORK WENT BACK AND CAME BACK TORCHED ON THE TOP AND THE VEG. AND GRAVY CAME BACK COLD. ALL IN ALL I PAID £56 FOR TERRIBLE FOOD. WILL NEVER GO BACK AND WIIL MAKE SURE NONE OF MY FRIENDS WILL GO THERE. PEOPLE STAY WELL AWAY FROM THIS PLACE, CUCKMERE INN. SEAFORD."

"Went with my husband for an Anniversary lunch. Been a number of times but in the evening when it’s usually packed. The food has always been lovely apart from 1 thing this time the cheesy garlic bread had zero garlic on it. I mentioned it when they ask ‘is everythings ok with your meal’ and was just met with ‘oh, ok’. No offer to swap it for another one, nothing. So slightly disappointed with that. I would agree that the prices are on the high side, all things considered. One thing I found, going in for lunch, is that they allow dogs inside the restaurant. I don’t agree with this, I think they should be kept outside of where food is being served. Plus the dogs all kicked off and starting yapping whenever someone walked near them or their owner moved or another dog walked in hardly makes for a nice relaxing atmosphere."

"The steak was excellent, but we were disappointed with the overall experience considering the £115 we paid. The half of a lettuce covered in dressings that came with the steak was not what we expected. The roasted vegetables were drenched in oil, making them slimy and wilted. The chips were clearly frozen and not homemade. The onion loaf was also of questionable quality, being rock hard. Despite these issues, the staff was friendly. Overall, the service was good, with a rating of 4 out of 5. The atmosphere was pleasant, also receiving a rating of 4 out of 5. Price per person for dinner was around £50-60."

"We stopped at this restaurant for brunch during a boating trip with friends. It was a charming and cozy pub with a friendly atmosphere. Despite its size, the pub has been divided into smaller sections, creating a private and intimate ambiance. The food and service were exceptional, and we were impressed by our waitress who memorized all five of our orders, including drinks, without writing anything down. Everything was delivered to our table correctly, making for a delightful experience. "Eight of us went on 9th October evening to celebrate a birthday. Unfortunately the waitress was full of cold, sneezing and spluttering over the food and the people and she had lost her voice (not her fault I know, but it was not pleasant when her nose was running when she was taking our order. She had to shout to be heard and all you could hear was her failing voice all evening. Secondly, they had run out of food, some of the starters, mains and puddings had sold out. Surely you know the amount of covers you have to cater for and this should not have happened on the second day of opening. The cost of the food was high for the size portions. Lastly, three of our party of eight had food poisoning. Two had the duck and one had the scallops, which was different from the rest of us. Usually I wouldn't write a bad review, but this was such a disappointing experience. The only nice thing was the chairs, very pretty."

"I visited for the first time recently, and it was an even better experience thanks to a 50% discount voucher for my main meal. The food was delicious; I had the double blue burger and thoroughly enjoyed it. It arrived fairly quickly, too. The salad bar wasn't self-service yet, but the staff were very pleasant. The little bread roll was a bit tough; I'm not sure if that’s the norm or if I just got an off one, but it didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the meal. The atmosphere felt clean and welcoming all around. My only critique is that the exterior of the restaurant seemed a bit tired and worn, and it could use more lighting to brighten it up. However, all the staff were friendly and welcoming, so leaving a decent tip was an easy decision."
