"This is a tough review to write, maybe my most difficult! During our holiday, we were taste-testing Fish N Chips around Scotland. On our first visit to Nardini’s, I loved the Fish N Chips—this is why we returned. Although the food was good on this first visit, the service was poor to average. When we returned, it was a nightmare. We arrived just after 11 a.m. and hoped to have lunch and ice cream outdoors again. We were told we could only be seated outdoors if we were buying ice cream in their ice cream shop. Since we wanted Fish N Chips first, we were directed to an indoor table, planning to have Fish N Chips again, ice cream later. When we attempted to order, we were told they were only serving breakfast. Because we came for Fish N Chips and ice cream, and we could sit outdoors if we ordered from their ice cream shop, we chose to have ice cream first, then have Fish N Chips when they were serving it later. So, we walked through the open double doorway to Nardini’s attached ice cream shop to order sundaes and ice cream scoops. Here, we were told they didn’t serve sundaes in the ice cream shop—these were only available in the restaurant. So, we went back to the restaurant and were seated again. When we attempted to order the sundaes and the scoops of ice cream, we were told only certain flavors were available in the restaurant. If we wanted others, we would have to go back to Nardini’s Ice cream shop through the doorway. The waiter had no empathy for the difficulties, and their crazy rules—-he wasn’t even nice. At this point, we gave up and thought they don’t even know the meaning of friendly or customer service—we came to the conclusion they really don’t want our business, so we left and won’t be back! Wish we had never returned!"

"My wife and I wanted to get away from Bridport to avoid the horrendously noisy Jurassic fields music festival which has now moved even closer to my bungalow. We chose the Mitre inn in Sandford Orcas, a tiny village a couple of miles north of Sherborne. It was fairly easy to find but down single track roads with passing places. Ample parking at the side of the inn. They have a restaurant along with 2 guest rooms on the first floor and a Sheppards hut in the garden. Our room was very reasonable and included breakfast. The room was comfortable and spacious with a small settee, wardrobe, chair and 2 bedside cabinets. The bathroom was large, with a shower cubicle, basin and loo. Tea coffee making facilities are provided. Breakfast was cereal fruit and yoghurt plus the usual fare of eggs cooked anyway you liked, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomato, toast and orange juice, tea and coffee. Evening meals were available, prior booking is recommended. We had the battered cod, chips and peas on the first night which was the best I had in a long time. My wife had an amazing desert of Chocolate Brownie sundae and I had Lemon cheesecake which was lovely too. Next night we had Sausage and onion baguette and a brie and cranberry baguette followed by a summer fruits crumble. All were very reasonably priced and delicious. On the 3rd night we were offered a roast dinner for guests of all 3 rooms which was very kind as normally they close after the Sunday lunch servings. The owner, Steve, the previous owners, Cheryl and Allen who still help out, Jeff (the chef) and the young lady waitresses were all so friendly and really helpful. It was so peaceful and relaxing there with only an occasional passing car. Highly recommended to stay or just go for a great meal."
