"There were 5 people In our group for lunch, 2 vegans, 2 veggies and an omni. 4 of us actually ordered from the vegan menu and 1 ordered a vegetarian dish. My main issue was that 2 of us (myself being vegan and the omni in the group! ordered the flat bread from the vegan menu it didn’t advertise coming with chips but when we ordered our waiter asked us which chips we would prefer so we both asked for sweet potato fries. When the fries came out they had cheese on them (despite us clearly ordering from the separate vegan menu . I’m not sure if this was an error on the waiter or the kitchen’s part but the waiter apologised. I shared the fries with one of the vegetarians in the group so I just avoided any that had cheese on them, however I’m now wondering whether actually they were not cooked in a separate fryer and this is why they weren’t on the vegan menu!? In terms of staff knowledge I was also disappointed when I asked what type of plant based burger it was on the vegan menu (I.e. meat substitute or bean based etc and our waiter didn’t know or really seem to understand the question (and didn’t offer to find out . That’s why I chose the flat bread instead and then had the cheese issue! My second main issue is that the food was pretty average especially considering the price. 3 of us had the vegan chocolate tart advertised as coming with fresh berries. (2 of us originally ordered the treacle tart which was sold out, fair enough . However 2 of us can’t eat strawberries so asked for the tart without them, expecting other berries instead, however the only berry on the third tart was a solitary diced strawberry! The tart was also pretty small considering it didn’t come with any accompaniment but cost £6.25! Overall it’s great they’re trying with a vegan menu but my view is that they must try harder!"

"Stopped off for a quick dinner on the way home from visiting friend on bank holiday Monday. Have used the George and Dragon many times and always had good food and good service. Tonight however was a totally. different experience! They seemed to be incredibly short staffed. When our food arrived if was warm at best. My daughter and husband ordered dirty burgers which arrived without bacon or pickles. My other daughter had what I can only say appeared to be some else’s chips broken and re-fried. We ate what we could but left much of the food. I discreetly spoke to a male member of staff rather than cause a fuss. He said he would speak to the manager but never came back to me. I asked the waitress for our bill so that we could pay and leave. The young lady brought the bill to the table and left. After waiting a good 10 minutes for someone to take our money with no joy So I went to the bar to pay. While paying I asked if the manager had advised and was told yes, “ sorry the “wrong burgers” were served but you didn’t complain before eating so tough we expect you to pay in full. I paid the full bill. On getting home and checking the menus it turns out I have paid £6.00 to much to be served rubbish and incorrect food! I suppose the jokes on me for not kicking up a fuse and disturbing other dinner and then not checking I had been charged for the cheaper food that we got served!"

"Sunday roast lunch on 29 July. Interior decor is nicely done, but the food was a great disappointment. I had roast pork, my partner had roast beef. The pork was OK, three small slices, not brilliant but acceptable, but the vegetables were unbelievably dreadful. The roast potatoes were white and soggy, the half parsnip equally so, and the cabbage was almost raw, more stalk than leaf. I asked for replacement potatoes, which were at least browned, but equally soggy, as if they'd been microwaved, not roasted. My partner's roast beef was also OK, not great, but same problems with the vegetables. Also, his plate of food was only lukewarm, almost cold. Regarding the drinks, my partner had asked for a large glass of dry house wine at £5.90. However, we were charged for the Pinot at £7.45. When we queried this with the waitress, she said the house wine wasn't dry, so she'd served the Pinot without any prior discussion or agreement. The service was acceptable, although we waited over 10 minutes for our first drink even though there was only one other table occupied in the restaurant, as we'd booked early at 12.15pm. We complained to the manager, who was apologetic and generous in the settlement of our bill. He offered a return meal, but we won't be going back. A roast dinner must be one of the easiest dishes to do well. It's hard to understand how this restaurant managed to get it so wrong."

"This is our usual venue for celebrations both because its local and because usually its a well priced great food but based on my experience last night I wont be going back for a while. A number of things went wrong, and any one on its own would have just been put down as bad fortune, but all together suggests that the owners of Derby Arms are trying to offer a fine dining experience but not backing it up. 1) I booked online and mentioned the booking was for my wife 's birthday, and at no point was this mentioned. In its self this wasn 't an issue as she never likes the attention of it, but it does suggest that nobody paid attention to the note made under special requests and dietary issues so does suggest that if I 'd made a dietary comment it may also have been ignored here 2) They brought out the wrong starter, firstly the server seemed to be expecting me to accept what he brought out, and then returned to the kitchen to get what had been ordered which did arrive very soon after. The lady who took our order came to apologise and blamed the kitchen, but given the same item was on our bill it was clearly her error. 3) The waiting staff were very pleasant but not very attentive. This was highlighted best when the server arrived with our main course and our starter plates had not been taken away. A bit of juggling later (thankfully there was a spare table nearby) all was sorted 4) When you order a £30 steak you 'd expect decent meat, served well Not on a wooden block with chips in a cup (very pub styly) 5) Both steak meals had things missing, my wife had no chips and I was missing the extra onion rings ordered. Once highlighted they arrived in good time When you 're paying £75 a head for a pub meal you really expect many of these mistakes not to be made and there is every chance we were just unlucky."
