"Went for my sister’s bday. Had a great time. Only few things is that they don’t give tap water and charge a lot for a small bottle of water. They don’t accept card payment. It must be cash for now because they haven’t installed the card payment machine, there is an atm right outside the lounge. The food was too tasty and will be back again to have it again. The Mocktails are so good and generally it was a nice vibe and great ambience. The staff were really attentive and made my sisters day really lovely."

"since over 15 years sophies steakhouse visited and since the summer it was my first time. I went past the last weeks often to visit during the tireless veganuary, so I jumped on the opportunity to have a relaxed dinner there...with a friend on a Tuesday night. the dinner itself was the usual quality ingredients simple things made very good and fair value for the location as expected. I was disappointed, however, that I was at the reception of the restaurant for approx. 5 minutes were allowed to stand (besides a board that has asked customers to wait) where I was ignored, although I was passed on several times by the employees without gruß or recognition. it seems quite unnecessary that customers (also with reservations) on this wise on a Tuesday night around 19:30 clock, if there is a bar area on the immediate left side of the at the beginning that I quite comfortable my time in, until someone around me to put around me and safe enough, a small waiting snake formed behind us through the time we finally sit, although there is a series of open tables. my words very carefully to choose, I told the waiter (the manager) when he put us that as “a courteous world of advice” when they let customers wait at the entrance, they should be more of an effort to welcome them immediately, but this seemed to be taken as a personal affront and I was accused that it was quite hysterical, “he was being back in the moment when I met him during this already negotiated exchange we were asked twice (at this point) if we wanted to proceed with our booking by the waiter who obviously had decided that he would rather leave the partially empty restaurant. Despite every attempt to go, I didn't want my friend embarrassing, who visited the restaurant more regularly from late, so we tried to make the best of an otherwise insignificant dinner. within spores of playing the sacrifice, the waiter could explain that he was very stressed, as they were particularly short workers (the experience of my friend also from a previous visit) and fair to him seemed to be that he had a large area on his own. Of course, I have addressed any sympathy, and it is a management problem that must be solved especially for that of human, but why not just with an excuse or even only a recognition of feedback received, instead of expressing themselves and making absurd accusations if it receives polite and constructive feedback? would the device rather not mention a bad customer experience and decide to simply go into reasonable feedback? to his credit, the rest of the service was professional, but it is hard to do such a basic misunderstanding of the customer service in a time when they think restaurants should do everything in their power to customers again welcome after the break-up of the last 18 months. the whole episode is pretty bad at sophies I'm sorry to say and I won't be back in a hurry."

"It's a very nice restaurant with a casual gastro pub vibe. The food was delicious and good portion sizes. The service was quite slow and it was a little confusing who was supposed to be looking after our table. We had queries that seemed to bounce around the staff. A real shame as I think with better service this would have been a much higher rating. Despite this, the restaurant was clean, the food was good and the staff were friendly but a little distant."

"I had a good time with a friend on my birthday there. However, there are several points to criticise about the afternoon tea we had: it took 45 minutes to arrive when we had a booking specifically for afternoon tea and other people had long been served already and it really wasn’t busy with new arrivals. The service was friendly and welcoming but seemed very busy and often it took a long time until we were noticed to get some more drinks. The scones were good, the sandwiches rated from not good and we didn’t eat it to very good. We only tried some of the cute looking pastries as felt quite full already at that time. It was very hot and noisy in the restaurant, the bar area however was too cold. Not possible to have a window opened in that area. They need some noise cancelling materials in that large room. It was fine for the day but wouldn’t go again nor recommend."

"The new style Sunday lunch, which was NOT made clear through advertising or point of booking is a big let down from previous menu. Small starter choice, plated lunch with reheated shrivelled vegetables and served Luke warm. NO dessert included just brunch items like muffins to select. At £15.95 a person this is very overpriced especially as a Marstons restaurant adjacent offes far better value for money. After making a complaint to customer services, I am really disappointed by the return email response. We chose St Davids as a special occasion birthday meal choice and can honestly say I would not recommend to others."

"eating was average, casual afternoon tee but service was pretty good, friendly and looked us well. we asked them to fill the hot water several times in teapots, but they weren't hesitant to do (really, many waiters/waxes are when I ask or even they often (I mean exactly right timings! asked us if everything was in order to rush it very quickly, changed tee leaves as well as if this price class. I was at almost all high-end afternoon places in london, not only once, at least a few times in every hotel, sometimes (minor? I have to wait long to just order / ask and get even longer what I want especially to popular luxury places. and some of them are pushing us to have tables with bills before we ask if we usually pay more than twice than here. To be honest, the atmosphere was very casual, but really quiet and comfortable to talk to my friend what I liked. not this elegant or high-end style afternoon tea, but as a casual one-time place with close or female friends with tea and cake for long time to chat comfortably, this place would be very nice!"

"To be honest, we were somewhat disappointed in our visit meal and it was no where near as good as the carvery style sunday menu we thought we were going to get. There was not much choice at all for starters or desserts on the 'help yourself ' part and there was a shortage of desserts, only 2 to choose from a plain cheesecake and yogurt pot type desert. Also, no spoons available for the soup or deserts. The Sunday lunch itself was quite standard, nothing special. I enjoyed the beef but my husband wasnt impressed with the processed turkey he got. Staff were pleasant enough but we cleared our table of both starters and mains ourself as no one seemed to want to take our used plates away do we ended up putting them onto another table or on the bar! Only positive was that I had purchased a voucher so instead of £50, we spent just over £25. I most certainly wouldn 't pay full price for what we got and wont rush back for sunday lunch. Very disappointed as our kids loved it last time with the choice and especially the ice cream machine but this has all been changed and not for the best."

"We arrived as a family of four with no booking on a Sunday evening, the restaurant was fairly quiet, about 8 ish tables were taken, the gentleman at the entrance of the restaurant kindly ushered us to our table asking us for our drinks order...whilst we looked at menu, he told us a waitress would be serving us. We waited for an eternity for our drinks to arrive, what aggravated me when a couple arrived seated next to our table, took drinks order and they arrived before ours! We noticed another couple seated other side of us had finished their starter and waited a while for their plates to be removed. Our drinks arrived by our waitress with no people skills what so ever, we questioned her regarding steaks, she was unable to answer er, not sure, one is softer as to sirloin and rump. Again, restaurant was quiet but no sign of waitresses working' our meals arrived after another long wait, 3 of us ordered burgers, 1 with steak. 2 burgers were cold to eat along with the buns as if buns had just been taken out of fridge. As we waited a long time I begrudgingly ate with rustic' chips that were mildly warm again! I noticed couple who were there before us had left the majority of their meals (burgers again) and chips and left, no one cleared their table for at least 10 mins! Couple next to us who arrived after us had their order mixed up, lady ordered chicken/avocado salad, waitress took wrong meal away, I could clearly see the couple were both aggravated. We finished our not so great meal and again long wait for table to be cleared. Salad arrived on next table, lady complained there was no avocado in, after much deliberation we heard waitress say chef said no avocados left Gentleman in suit, I presume manager apologised offering her another meal, they also mentioned they had an extra long wait and wish to go elsewhere. We asked for the bill, bearing in mind when we arrived we informed gentleman we had 2 vouchers 2 for 1 so it'll be 2 transactions. The bill came as one transaction £98!!!!! No way our meal was worth that anyway! (we had no starter or dessert, 4 beers, 2 cokes, 1 jug of water So, again another long wait for bill to be rectified, we waited that long that we left table to wait for bill at till point, hence to say, leaving no tip! Absolutely disgraceful experience overall, that us and going by other diners we will not be returning!!! "

"We came to Village Hotel pub and grill to watch a football match and have some food. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Service was quick even though it was super busy! There are multiple big screens showing sports, so wherever you're sitting, you get a good view, even when busy. The food was reasonably priced and huge portions. Overall, we really enjoyed our evening out here! Food drinks: The food at the grill was a decent price for the size of the portions. We had the gourmet burger and it was huge, but really tasty. You can add starters or dessert to your meal for £6, and again one starter was a big enough size for us to share. The cocktails were really nice here too! "An extremely overpriced menu. Three of us went for Sunday lunch at £15 for 3 courses. The starters were self serve and sat on the side... some looked dried up and inedible. Nothing was labelled so you had to guess what everything was. Most were salad in a small jar or compote or smoothie?? We had to ask for fresh bread and more soup, which was in a thermos jug. The main course was mediocre. And there wasn't any choice for dessert. It was a compote or muffin or Danish pastry??? Which had all been sat on the side with the starters. The service was awful. No cutlery laid on the table, even though we had booked and reserved. We had to wait for long periods to have our plates removed and we had to ask to have our mains taken away after about half an hour of just sitting there. We will not be returning!!! Terrible."

"The experience at this restaurant has consistently been fantastic. We gather once a month for happy hour and enjoy our favorite three dishes for £16. The staff is wonderful and down-to-earth, which adds to the charm of the place. I particularly love the lively atmosphere created by the older patrons enjoying their drinks. We usually visit on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, as Thursdays tend to be quite busy and attract a younger crowd, which makes it less ideal for us. Midweek is just perfect for our gatherings."

"It depends what you are looking for, the venue is well equipped and should perhaps be used to provide a better overall experience. I would personally have a division between groups. So that family groups, hotel guests and sports fans can get what they want out of the experience. I think you need to ask a few more questions when taking bookings to find out what guests are expecting there seemed to be confusion on the evening due to allocated seating. The biggest failing being that I waited for nearly 20 minutes while my food was getting cold to get served at the bar."

"we have booked for a night as a new year contract as we had bought the £50 voucher for £25. the restaurant was busy when we arrived, but were immediately shown on our table. the waiter was very nice, although we had to hunt him for a drink, as we had waited for over 10 minutes. we ordered drinks and eat at the same time as we were ready to order. the food arrived in good time and I must say we were very impressed by eating it was nice and we both enjoy our meal very much. the atmosphere was not what they would expect from a hotel. there was a series of clientels that were constantly in and out of the fire exit, which was very annoying as it was very cold when they left the door open to allow them to enter through this door, which led to us having to sit because it was so cold. when we left, we realized why they came in and out of the fire exit, as they were 10 or more cars on the parking lot that used the hotel toilets, bar and electricity to load there telephones etc. not what I expected in the village hotel. was rather disappointed than the bar, food and service was excellent, but the client unfortunately let it down"

"I was disappointed to find out that we did not receive the 25% discount on our large meal when using my membership card at the restaurant. It appears that the discount only applies to 3-course meals now. This comes after receiving an email stating that my membership fee has increased to £48 per month, presumably to help fund the new pool. We will not be returning for Sunday dinner anytime soon, especially since the carvery is now served to you instead of being self-serve like it was in the past."

"I have previously visited this restaurant for weekend brunch, but had not gone since last year. I ordered the French toast and the omelette. Unfortunately, both dishes were not as good as they were in the past, but they were acceptable. I also mentioned that I was celebrating a milestone when I made the reservation, however, it was not acknowledged until the end of the meal when the waiter congratulated me while giving me the bill. "Sadly the whole experience was disappointing , the chefs table was missing quiet a few items that were not replenished no prawn cocktails and no chocolate muffins to mention only 2 lines we waited about 25 minutes for the mains after finishing what starters were available . I had to ask 2 different members of staff for plates for the starters and the room was packed with people shouting as they watched the rugby which is fair enough but not the environment you want to be eating food with children feeling quite threatened by all the shouting . Have previously enjoyed the whole experience but have never been there when a major sporting event was on . Not a great time with a lot of hassle to get a below average dining experience. Have always told friends and colleges how good the village is but feel somewhat different now ."

"Awful from start to finish. Food was horrible was in there over 2.5 hours service was slow. Would not recommend Sunday lunch now they have changed it from a carvery. Starters tiny desserts poor choice and Sunday lunch inedible. Had to wait on several occasions for them to put enough starters out and desserts. We were a party of 9 and 4 meals came out 20 mins later than everyone else’s. Food items missing from most people’s meals. Waitress was very apologetic and so was the manager and we didn’t pay for the meal. Was for my husbands birthday which was ruined. Very disappointed and won’t be returning unfortunately and we have been numerous times in the past and loved it!"
