"Based on the Google ratings we chose this cafe today and we can confirm all the other 5 star ratings. It 's a beautiful little family business. We immediately felt like we were at home with mum (in this restaurant probably also like at home with dad, because he is the cook, if I remember correctly). We were served quickly and friendly. The food was delicious and you could tell it was freshly made. It 's really worth the wait, which was perfectly fine (less wait usually means worse quality). There are also vegetarian and vegan dishes marked with v and vg (I think more v could be added here). There were a lot of guests that day. As soon as one left, the next came in. So a very very popular cafe. Despite this, the owner took the time to talk to us and also to answer questions. I really like the style of the 1940s. And it is nice that it is consistent in decoration, music and menu. I like the pun Four Teas . Finally, I would like to mention that we really liked that our table was cleared and cleaned first and then we were shown to the table. This was very friendly discussed with us beforehand. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian/vegan dishes marked with v/vg. Other side dishes to supplement, also vegetarian. Dietary restrictions: Detailed information on allergens is on the menu. Kid-friendliness: Children 's chair available. A family with four children, we with two adult children and a mother with one child were there and were served very friendly."

"We were at the garden centre and decided to use the restuarant. There were about 6 people waiting already and it looked like there were no tables free, so a wait was in order. Of the people in front , one had a walking disability and was leaning hevily on a stick. As time passed we watched as the first 10 tables cleared and no one from the queue was let into sit. We were now 15 20 minutes in and the queue had risen to maybe 20 people and the empty tables I counted 16. So I mentioned it to a waiter who was serving tea, he disappeared and nothing happened. Another 5 or 10 minutes passed and there was an abundance of empty tables; the lady in front needed a seat as she had been standing over 30 minutes, so we went and got her one. During this time several waiting staff had been to the head of the queue to replace menus that had come from the empty tables and one waitress even stopped to drink her tea but none of them even spoke to the head of the queue; they just ignored them. I complained again and was told to complain to another person by the serving hatch who was wearing an apron because they were supervisors. I told the supervisor there were about 20 old age pensioners, some with walking difficulties and they were being ignored when they could be let in to at least sit down. I was told quite curtly 'I am serving customers '. What the HELL did she think we were?? After discussion she said the kitchen was backed up because everyone had ordered at once, so I pointed out that she was causing the problem because she was now going to have another 20 orders all at once whereas if she had allowed people in it would be a trickle. Eventually we were let in. I would have walked away but my wife is diabetic and has to eat so we ordered Quiche; I had a green salad. It arrived fairly quickly but my quiche was gritty and I left about a quarter as it wasn 't very nice (my wife 's was ok) and some of the cucumber my green salad had gone mushy and the leaves had gone brown most of the salad was well past its best I left all the salad. My Wife had chosen different options and they were ok. I would avoid this place at all costs! I would also recommend to who ever owns this place that they put the manager and some of their senior staff on written warnings because of the way they treat their customers and their lack of concern over disabled people."

"Additionally, there were several pieces of broken furniture: a drawer front was hanging off, there was a battered trunk in the bathroom, and a bathroom mirror was waiting to be mounted. Access to the side entrance via a cobbled alley is essential, particularly when the front door is locked, as it prevents the hassle of dragging luggage through the bar. The interior has various levels and steps that add character, but unfortunately, it makes the space inaccessible for wheelchairs. The bar area is appealing, featuring Theakston Old Peculier Best, Black Sheep Best, and Nick Stafford's Hambleton Ales Stud on tap, along with John Smith's, pickled eggs, onions, and the standard lagers. During my visit, the local football team was celebrating a victory with their trophy, initially in high spirits. However, a brief fight broke out in the bar, causing some patrons to seek refuge in the dining area. Thankfully, it ended quickly without any significant damage, likely involving some over-enthusiastic footballers, so this shouldn’t be considered a regular occurrence. I found the chicken liver starter acceptable, though the sauce was too watery and would have benefited from some bread for dipping. Dirty wine glasses are simply unacceptable, especially in dim lighting. My glass had noticeable smudges from someone else's lips, which is not appealing. Next to me, the owner engaged in a long-winded conversation about roadworks, which detracted from the focus on cleanliness and hygiene. The lamb casserole was delicious, albeit a touch sweet, but was undermined by the stingy portion of bread served. I was given just *one* small part-baked French roll, not nearly enough to accompany the dish. It felt ridiculous for such a meal. Noise from the bar carried into the dining room, as soundproofing clearly wasn't a priority during construction — having a few drinks might help drown it out. In the morning, we were greeted by the pleasant sounds of horses being exercised nearby. The bathroom supplies were a bit odd, offering four shower caps but no soap. Breakfast was satisfactory but unremarkable. Overall, while this review may sound critical, my experience wasn’t bad at all. It was good value, but with minimal effort, it could be significantly improved."

"I came into the place up for having a coffee but first I wanted to change my baby as it was raining outside and she had been in hysterics for a fair time. Other places didn’t seem to have a baby change or their toilet was flooded so I thought I could change her in there. On arrival I was pounced on and told I couldn’t change my baby unless I ordered something I couldn’t believe it really and said I really need to change her and then I would probably order a coffee afterwards. The baby change room and desk was smelly and presto disgusting but she needed changing so I changed her on her own mat intop of this. When leaving I didn’t want to be pressured to have something from the shop as I was really stressed out and just wanted to go home as my little girl wasn’t feeling at all well. That’s when a member of staff followed me out saying all his customers thought I was wrong for going and changing my baby but not buying anything. I make it clear I would never go there again because I was upset and he just said it was common sense to order something. Couldn’t see my day getting any worse or stressful yet it did! I felt abused in the middle of the street when followed out infront of lots of people when all I wanted was a happy child and to have the opportunity to get her clean to do that. I won’t ever go to this place again after receiving that sort of treatment and the embarrassment after just trying to change my baby."

"We went here to try it and see what it was like. Their motto seems to revolve around do you want food quick or do you want food cooked/edible ...and they choose quick over quality. It was a mistake I wish we had waited in the queue at Alessios instead. Seems theres a good reason noone was queuing to get in here. Husband ordered a pastrami ciabatta which came with sweet potato fries. It arrived with some rather sad looking fries, that were clearly had been sitting for a while and were cold. The ciabatta was ok, edible but not great. I ordered loaded potato wedges- which didn 't arrived until 5-10 mins after the ciabatta. Sadly, these were the worst thing I think I 've had in a cafe. They were soaked in oil (and this wasn 't grease from the iffy cheese on them) and uncooked. I 'm not a fan of raw, but somehow soggy at the same time, potato. The latte looked good but the coffee tasted like water. No check back was done, attempted to get waitresses attention a few times as she cleaned 2 tables near us but on one occasion she simply looked the other way. The lady taking my order was lovely and pleasant, the other lady not so much- when the first lady was asking what dip I would like the other one barked how there was only ketchup or honey mustard which seemed unnecessary. Oh and the ketchup dip was one sad sachet of ketchup which did make me laugh. Funnily enough despite ignoring our existence while in the cafe, both waitresses said a goodbye as we left...so they did see us in there... Avoid and go elsewhere, I popped to the next again cafe and got some tasty lentil soup to eat after we left. The only thing I 'd recommend from here was the bottle of cola I had, oh and not going to this cafe at all."

"Extremely disappointed in both service and goods. My 2 daughters and myself visited tonight, first daughter ordered a simple sundae which was done fine my second daughter ordered the cookie dough and ice cream, I ordered the cookie dough slab the chocolate caramel one. My daughters got theirs and went to car as mines taking longer. As the girl was removing mines from oven she dropped it on floor, she picked it up off floor into bucket. She then got another from fudge and put back into oven, whilst this one was cooking she cleaned mess up. She retrieved dust pan and brush from floor between skin and fridge, brush mess up into bucket, dustpan/brush back onto floor, then gets mop and starts to mop floor, returning mop to bucket, she then went to start preparing my order to which I had to ask her to wash her hands says about dustpan etc. She did so. My cookie dough was only in half the time as previous one, she put caramel sauce chocolate dros and a cut up mars bar on top, the actual description included rolls, chocolate sauce etc. I went to car started to eat it only to realize to was not cooked but cold in centre and raw. My daughter also said hers was cold and not cooked either. So after spending £23, only one of use ate vanilla joes products. Extremely disgusting. No I didn't return to shop as it would be same person serving me. I won't be back and won't recommend, least to say too expensive for what we received poor quality and extremely poor service. If I could give 0/5 I would........"
