"Giving a star is being overly generous, considering from the moment we walked in til we left, utterly appalling. The place was very empty when we arrived but there was not one member of staff about, waited at the bar, looked around and had...to catch the eye of a member of staff to be served. Asked for the breakfast, adults and a bowl. with teas and a fruit juice. Got ourselves seated, had to ask someone to be served once again at the breakfast bar. Had to ask again for beans, got told off for helping myself to mushrooms. There should be staff there to direct me and assist me instead scolding me. Would not pay for the shrivelled and cold mushrooms that I helped myself to. Nor would I pay for the hair found on the bacon. There was no hot water to make myself a cup of tea so had to have coffee once again no one around to ask for hot water. No butter for the toast and no spoons for the hot drinks or the kids bowl breakfast. No welcome, no check back and no way would we return. There are way far better places to have breakfast, which offers a warm welcome and friendly and attentive staff the jug and bottle is not that place."

I had expected the festive menu to come with some decorations/crackers/ pigs in blankets. The food was good as carveries go, but didn't have a festive feel at all. Lady at the till that night was exceptional though and made the evening. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 4

Experience was as you expect for a chain owned restaurant. Was a pleasant enough evening, but it wasn't anything special. Partner ordered the Carvery Calzone and there were a few bits of gristle and in his opinion, not nearly enough gravy. Went up to order and was made aware of the 30 minute wait on food after we had paid. The Philly Cheese Steak pizza was very nice and filling. Overall, it was a nice evening but I won't be rushing back for my next meal out.

"Booked stayed at this place very recently having read the excellent reviews. As a very level headed person, certainly not delusional I failed in trying to recognise or match the place based on any of the reviews posted on Booking.com The place, whilst very quaint appealing from the outside is in direct contrast to the inside! In reality, it 's very much in dire need of deep cleaning, redecorating and refurbishing. The food, not sure who prepared the meals in the reviews I read, but fail to see how it could be the same chef as the one that cooked ours! Our meals arrived no less than 40 minutes after ordering. The drinks to occupy us while we waited never did arrive when our meals finally arrived served (if slapping on the table warrants being called served three out of the five items that made up the meal were uncooked, cold unedible! The excuse given by the waitress, is far too busy and understaffed, yet despite not being able to fulfil the job paid for, they still take fee paying guests who are treated far less than second class citizens to the regular clientele supping at the bar! Far too busy but not enough to stop them from taking longer than necessary to laugh talking to the regulars! Needless to say, we ate at other places for the rest of our stay. DO NOT BE FOOLED, as we were by the reviews, which have stayed are extremely questionable indeed! If one is used to using hostels I can see this could be deemed as good, if not excellent accommodation. On the flip side, if one is used to hotels that are clean customer focused then this hotel (a grand name for nothing more than a public house with accommodation not a very good or pleasant one at that is not the one for you!!"
