"My Mum and I regularly do Sunday lunch and were looking for somewhere new to try not too far from Worcester. Having researched on line and found this pub’s website offering a varied menu at sensible prices with an imaginative veggie option, I booked on line on Sunday morning. I did have to phone and check that a table was available before setting off as no one got back to me to confirm. On arrival the front of the pub did seem to lack some kerb appeal no info about food available, plants seemingly dying in window boxes, tired looking main front door etc. However, lots of easy parking behind pub and front entrance not actually used as we were directed to the side entrance. Cosy atmosphere inside with roaring log fire and a sunny window seat was offered, but the decor inside looks tired like the outside and dated too. No worries about a table still being available as, apart from 3 people and their dog having a drink, we were the only people there the whole time on a Sunday lunchtime. Waitress and the chef/ owner were both very friendly. They noted I had asked about veggie options on my booking and they offered to do an extra veggie dish not on menu if we wanted. We both chose the veggie option on the menu goat’s cheese and aubergine stack with ratatouille. The waitress reminded us it didn’t come with any potatoes so we ordered a portion to share for which we were not charged. The food was obviously freshly cooked and was an extremely well presented and tasty main course albeit the aubergine had been replaced with courgettes. The chef/ owner even came out to ask if we liked the dish. I agreed we did, but I did point out the lack of aubergine. He explained he had substituted it with courgettes as he thought they went well, but why call it goat’s cheese and aubergine stack then? It would have been nice to have been informed beforehand of this change to the printed menu. There is only a choice of 2 sweets so we had one of each. After a bit of a wait they arrived. The apple crumble was full of chunky apple and the crumble very crunchy, the orange Cointreau pancakes were obviously freshly made again, with a rich tangy orange sauce. By this stage we were the only people in the whole pub, which felt a bit strange. The food is excellent and good value at just over £30 for the 2 courses for the two of us with a soft drink each. Not sure how the place manages to keep going if this is a typical Sunday, which is a great shame as the owner and his waitress are lovely and the food delicious. Perhaps a bit of investment in freshening up the front to make it look more inviting would encourage more people/ or perhaps we had just been there on an unusually quiet day."

"We visited for a burger and fries on a voucher but that should not have affected the service we received. We arrived at the appointed time and waited at the deserted bar for a few minutes before a bar tender appeared looking as if he...had just left the gym complete with towel around his neck! He waived airily towards an array of empty tables. We ordered our drinks and chose our eats and these arrived in decent time. The burgers were delicious and filling and this was a major redeeming feature. However our enjoyment was hampered by two misbehaving children who were allowed by their parents -who were sitting at the far end of the bar to run riot, jumping on chairs, shouting to each other and messing about with the sauce sachets. I may be old fashioned but I would not have tolerated such disruptive behaviour from my children. The boy (aged about followed me into the gents and again I would never have led my child at that age go to the loo in a bar on his own. The kids managed to smear butter over one of the chairs. This was mentioned to a barmaid who had appeared together with the fact the the hand drier in the gents was broken. She seemed utterly disinterested. I had to wait while she messed about on the till to get my drinks bill which she managed to get wrong! Overall we were not made welcome. Not once did any of the staff engage with us or even break into a smile. No apology or thanks were forthcoming for any of our reported issues. It wasn't as if the place was busy. A course on customer relations is badly needed!"

"I have given this establishment a 1* review purely because 0* isn’t an option. Anyone considering booking, please read ahead so you aren’t left without a room for the night like we were. How they have managed to achieve 4* reviews so far if this is the way they treat paying guests is absolutely beyond me. After an easy booking process, communication about our stay and arrangements was great. We knew ahead of time how to check in and where to collect our keys once we arrived (we were arriving late at night and no reception would be available . Upon arriving, the keys for our rooms weren’t there, yet two other keys for single rooms were. Given 4 adults were staying and we’d booked executive rooms, this clearly wasn’t appropriate. We contacted the emergency number provided and finally got through on the 5th attempt to a woman (the owner? who said she would send her son. He arrived 20 minutes later, stormed past us without saying a word, and proceeded to bang on the doors of the rooms wee were supposed to be in to try and wake the people who had taken ours! When he couldn’t wake them, he came back to reception, didn’t introduce himself, made no attempt to apologise, and worse still, didn’t make any further attempts to resolve the situation. He told us he couldn’t wake the guests in the rooms we should have had (it was 1.15am at this point!! and that there were no other rooms available. End of story, not even any attempt to try and help us. We were then left to drive the 90 minute journey back home after a long day at a wedding, finally arriving home at 3am. We were promised a phone call from the same man (presumed to be the owners son the following day. 5 days later, and after I’d had to call to chase him 3 times, I finally made contact. He was still unapologetic, rude and full of excuses, blaming everyone and everything else, and took no accountability for having left 4 people with no room at 1.30 in the morning. I’ve never experienced such horrendous service and feel it important to highlight what happened so people considering booking are aware of what could happen to you, and how poor the customer service is."
