"We visted this restaurant for an anniversary dinner and left very satisfied with the level of service and food. The starter with squid was superb and unique. Mains we got a duck main and sea bream main. Both were very good but sea bream was better. Desserts Cheesecake and chocolate lava cake. Both excellent . The cheesecake was unusual but very tasty. Highly recommended."

"We had to wait a long time for the meal, which was explained by the preparation of the steak. The steak was then well done (medium ordered). You couldn't help but get the impression that this was supposed to increase the beverage sales, because we were asked several times whether there were still beverage requests. The empty bread basket was ignored but the food was not bad overall. The same quality is available elsewhere, but significantly cheaper. My impression - more geared towards tourists than regular guests"

"We got married at Hillbark years ago and had heard about Riviera so wanted to give it a try.. I'm not one for being negative but i felt the Food didn't live up to the setting HIllbark brand at all. The cellar was a fantastic space, however, the Food disappointed us on so many levels just didn't have that special factor very mediocre for the venue price.. We went for the Chefs choice tapas and felt it was very piecemeal in it's serving and content. No vegetables, duck was very salty, they gave us a double beef portion even though one of our guests had said they don't eat beef and the presentation was literally just beef or fish on a plate with a small token of chips... I'd love to go to Hallbark again as the building is beautiful, but with food like that i'm afraid we wont be going back"

"Fantastic experience and great value for money. Food was faultless and the 10 courses left you feeling a very nice level of full (we didn’t opt for the bread or scallops, both at a supplement). The staff were very nice and friendly and you could see the small team was working hard as to attend to all guests. If I was to offer feedback, I would say that the restaurant could do with losing a table in order to gain more space. Unfortunately with experience in hospitality I understand this is probably not possible. But the whole evening we had staff squeezing between the three tables of two in order to serve our neighbours and other tables. One wrong elbow or movement could of led to knocking a staff member carrying plates or glasses. My seat was also back to back tight with another person seated behind me. However, as a first time diner at this establishment, the food was absolutely fantastic, the paired wine package was great and I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a tasting menu. Great value also."

"1st time visitors to this restaurant celebrating out anniversary. We should have known from the starter it was going to be disappointing what with the burnt parcels of meat substance, dried up ribs (bones) as part of the platter for 2. Ordered 2 noodle dishes one seafood, one vegan, both came out greasy and sloppy not the example of Thai food I have experienced. The vegan dish had egg in it and the seafood octopus was so chewy in-fact it was Inedible. My partner and I couldn’t eat it and let the manager know, the manger came over very hostile and said we had eaten it which was clearly not the case as the food remained on the plates still swimming its grease, the food was so sloppy and the taste made me feel sick. I would never visit here again even if it was on Ramsey kitchen nightmares and I was asked to return by Gordon Ramsey himself. Stay away unless you like grease and burnt food."

"We were extremely disappointed after hearing great reviews about this restaurant. The staff was rude and the vegetarian options were very limited. The main course risotto we ordered was cold, and when it was reheated in the microwave instead of being remade, it was still only lukewarm when it was brought back to us. The evening ended up being expensive and was ruined by the poor service and food quality. We have no plans to return in the future."

"My wife and I have just spent two and a half weeks in various parts of Scotland and Ducks Inn absolutely stands out for the quality and value for money of the dinner we had. The bar/restaurant has a really friendly vibe to it and is clearly popular with locals (always a good sign . My wife 's vegetarian and had roasted pumpkin ravioli with parmesan cream to start followed by puy lentil and vegetable ratatouille, both of which she really enjoyed. I had hot smoked salmon with a glorious gin foam followed by seabass with celeriac puree and creamed potato. Both were really delicious. Fairly full, we managed to share a very generous selection of cheeses (apparently supplied by Haddington 's 'cheese lady ' . The wine list is excellent and the service was attentive and friendly without ever being too much. And, given the price inflation we 're seeing at the moment, I was struck by how fairly priced everything is. Thoroughly recommended dinner venue for anyone in East Lothian (or, indeed, Edinburgh as Aberlady is only a short drive outside the city and a lovely spot to walk around if you 've not been ."

"This was our first visit to Spoon in Edinburgh I can't belive we've not been before. We popped in for a late supper after seeing a Fringe Show. Great location for University, Pleasance Festival Theatre. Surroundings are lovely it's spacious and airy with an informal, comfortable atmosphere and a vintage style. Menu is varied anything from a snack or light lunch to a full meal is on offer. Food was delicious simple but very capably cooked. Service was friendly and efficient. We will certainly make an effort to go back"

"If you love duck you'll love Monsieur Le Duck! Mrs T and I visited during a trip to London, having been encouraged to seek it out by a complementary Jay Rayner review. We took the tube to Liverpool Street and after a few minutes walk found ourselves at the front door. We had a warm greeting from the waiting team, our coats were hung up and we were seated. The service was friendly, attentive and unpressured throughout. We went for Le Grand Jeu with a bonus bread with duck fat butter. The latters crispy yet yielding sour dough smeared with rich salty roast duck flavoured butter was well worth the £2. The starter of a dressed mixed leaf salad was wolfed down by Mrs T, but was the only bum note for me; I uncharacteristically could not finish it because of an unpleasant degree of sinus burn from the mustard. The rest was simply delicious. The duck burger left me asking the question why I had never had one before. The pan roasted and chargrilled breast were respectively sweet delicate and with a smokey steak-like quality. We had squeaky beans in garlic butter on the side which were exactly as described. The stars of the show were undoubtedly the confit leg with the lentils; both being rich and satisfying in every way imaginable. We washed everything down with a carafe of pungently fruity rose and some tap water. We considerered the crème brûlée, but decided to quit while we were ahead. This all came to a very reasonable £66 with service charge. I look forward to coming back and having a double confit duck leg and lentils all to myself..."
