"On a wander round haunts of long ago, was disappointed with the Pheasant, which had run out of Guinness, charm, and, it seemed, hope. But no sooner had I left to plod sadly back into town than I came by this small cafe. Decided to revive my spirits with a coffee. Inside was greeted by the proprietress, a most welcoming, smart, erudite Brazilian. A Brazilian coffee shop on Mount Pleasant, Reading! Wonders will never cease. Of course, being Brazilian, Pau Brasil sold wonderful cakes. I asked about them, and the lady described the displayed delights enticingly. I couldn’t resist and took a seat outside on one of the two tables. Well, my cake was terrific–think it was called Ladrez or something–a sponge with chocolate chequers round the edges. Coffee excellent too. Pau Brasil had triggered a moment of Zen. The lady chatted to me out front and, when I asked, explained why the shop is called Pau Brasil, which involved a fascinating slice of cultural history. At the end, she said, “Thank you for being interested”. Que senhora maravilhosa! She and Pau Brasil made my day."

"Went here last night and it was amazing! Delicious food, the ambiance was so nice! Loved listening to the guitar when we were eating, the food was so filling too! I had to undo a notch on my belt after the first course and by the time I got to the car I had to take my belt off completely I was that stuffed! Super reasonable prices, the staff were lovely, would definitely recommend! The salad dressing is the best thing I've ever tasted in my entire life, I had to buy a bottle! Amazing night! 20/10 ?"

"on Friday 17th juni, I came to the afternoon with friends. we arrived on time, but waited for 10 minutes to sit, as the waiter had already dealt with someone. it seemed to be personal everywhere, but not much done or people are seen (there were two young people looking for a lighter place?! we were finally sitting and given menus. 10 minutes later, someone came to take our beverage order, the same guy who sat us. He must have been the only one who actually works. he must have forgotten the drinks, not surprising that he is the only one who works, as we had to follow the order 10 minutes later. the same chap came with our drinks shortly after and was very apologetic. the guy who was to see us was nice, it was the service speed of all the others who did not seem to help him what was poor. overall eating was nice, the service, not so."

"The food was fantastic, and the service was exceptional. It was wonderful to experience something different, and everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The takeaway option is a great bonus as well! The owners and staff were wonderful hosts—friendly and welcoming throughout the evening. Be cautious with the wasabi; it's extremely spicy! There's a great selection of drinks, and I appreciated the unique options instead of the usual offerings found at most places."

"Two local women who did enjoy coming here for a pint on our own days off bar work with our other staff members , sat in here Thursday afternoon as usual spent abit of cash get on with the fella behind the bar and the two staffies well , went and done abit of shopping came back for one while we waited for our bus and the lady behind the bar was so rude ! I have drank in there plenty of times and I’m 25 years old and I look it I mean I don’t get id anywhere in Carlisle not even in supermarkets and then I’d me refused to serve me even though I’d be drinking in there all day ! Me and my staff won’t be coming back here very disappointing to be treated in such a way when the pub itself is lovely wasnt just that but she was only iding women and clearly doing it because she going off on one that she was busy and had no help and I even cleared all the glasses for her ! looked miserable and not what you want . Won’t be back after that service very dissapointed"

"2nd worst experience this year, this one topped it for me. Me and my girls decided to come here after work, on a Wednesday night for a last minute dinner we did not have time to get changed from our work clothes as we had a cinema to go after. On arrival, we were not greeted by anyone instead the bar staff just looked at us and looked away until the manager from down the restaurant came over. No hello, no how many for, just grabbed the menus and led us to our table. From the start, the attitude from the staff was not welcoming at all, very judgemental. One of the girls asked for a plain tomato pasta and instead of recommending a dish he just nodded so I suggested the penne al arrabiatta to which he tutted and said “that’s not tomato pasta, which one do you want?”. I ordered spaghetti Bolognese and simply asked him whether it was saucy or dry, he looked at me as if I had two heads “it’s pasta, of course it has sauce”(it was dry). Treated us like we were uneducated and did not belong there. Then the waiter came over with our drinks and dropped the tray of them on me, obviously accidental but he just rushed away with no apology. Rather the man on the next table apologised and came over with tissues to help clean up. I don’t blame him for the mistake however the manager then strolled over with blue roll (after me and the man cleaned up the mess) and again, did not apologise!! The food was ok but nothing amazing, the whole time we just felt like inconveniences and when it came to paying the bill the manager did not ask us how the food was, apologise for the incident or anything… never coming back."

"My friend and I spent the afternoon in St Agnes and had a reservation for 7 o'clock at the Fitty Pysk. However, we started to feel hungry well before then so asked if we could bring our booking forward to 6 o'clock. Not a problem, which made us very happy. The restaurant is approached by some fairly steep stairs but once at the top you realise that this provides a brilliant view of the bay. Inside, we were given uninterrupted views of a beautiful evening sunset from our table. It was difficult to choose from the tempting menu but eventually we both opted for the rum and ginger slow roasted pork belly, with seasonal vegetables. It's no exaggeration to say that it was divine, crispy crackling, melting fat and succulent meat. A very well-presented dish, very tasty; my only criticism would be that the vegetables were a little al dente for my personal taste but the pork was definitely the star of the show. Amazingly, we both decided on a pudding- this was reckless abandon as we were quite full and both on diets! Delicious frangipane tart for me and a chocolate pud for my friend. It was a bridge too far but had to be done, washed down with a half pint of delicious still cider brewed locally. The whole experience, the setting, ambience, service and food was a lovely end to my holiday and I hope to revisit next time I'm in Cornwall visiting my friend and seriously investigating the pub side of the Driftwood Spars, particularly the local cider."

"We visited today for our second time as we loved it so much last week. We had booked for a 3 course Christmas dinner. On arrival I could see that the table id requested was ready for us however it was surrounded by tables that were all full. Sadly COVID has left me with a lot of issues and my main one is anxiety, especially with a lot of people around. The staff were lovely and moved us to a perfect little table at the side of the bar. We ordered our drinks and were happily people watching as there were a lot of people having Christmas lunches and we were seeing what the food was like, it all looked yummy. Drinks ordered we had a visit from the chef. smashing bloke who wanted to check out starters and ask if we were ready, we said yes and a few minutes later put they came. pate and prawn cocktail and both delicious. Chef popped back out and asked who was the fish which was Mr, he asked what type of peas I wanted to which I said mushy as I knew they were proper mushy peas, did I want salad, yes please and I also asked for my fish to be skinless which isn't an issue here Mains arrived and were gorgeous and hot, couldn't fault a thing. Even though the restaurant was busy and there also appeared to be a funeral party in the conservatory for which we had watched plates of food come out from the kitchen for, the service was brilliant, and all the ladies were brilliant. Christmas pud and Roly poly followed with a coffee for my oh, both were delicious. It was an absolutely delicious meal and a good menu. We used to have a Christmas meal out but hadn't for a few years, so glad we chose here. Thanks again for wonderful food, a lovely atmosphere and great staff. See you soon."

"two for preopera dinner at 18 o'clock, eat a la carte. we ordered a bottle of the house white, price 35, but were calculated 46 for another bottle of wine. we were also charged 11,50 for a gin and tonic we never ordered. since we hurry to be in time for the opera (and at least initially service) had been slow, I discovered these false accuses only if I inspected the bill more cautious to house i have kept the bill! our waiter, although he tried his best, was the agency temp, and was not at all familiar with the menu that caused all kinds of confusion at the beginning. my main was a cesar salad consisting of half an salate (no, the leaves were not separated, washed individually and sown!). this was knocked on a plate, with some indifferent dressing on it blown by a bottle (actually not a freshly produced emulsion dressing). there were no crossers, but a few ghastly baguette melbas with melted cheddar (no, not parmesan) that had hurled from them, and not a hauch of sardelle, but something called bacon dusting. Overall, one would probably come better in a school canteen, and would not be happy with 12 for eating half an salad. when asien de cuba was housed there, this place was special. what they have at their place is particularly terrible."

"Absolutely amazing food. So rare to find somewhere that I can eat with my family. I am gluten free and vegan and my daughter is allergic to milk and egg. The staff were so helpful and accommodating and the food was so delicious that I could have eaten it all over again. The salads were dressed beautifully and so tasty too. Thank you so much Meal type: Lunch"

"Afternoon tea Good points: The food was fresh and of good quality, they had listened and followed our requirements. The food was tasty and the taste combinations good. The quantity of food was also very good. Downside: Wish we could have eaten in the garden area or the terrace, when asked we got told this wasn’t possible. But couldn’t see a reason why this wasn’t possible. Ag the very least an area set for tea parties would have been more desirable and we would have returned if the garden was an option. Cutlery, tea cups and tea pot were all very low quality and that you would expect at an old persons home or hospital. No offer of what type of tea we would like either. The elderflower drink tasted like sparkling water with a touch of elderflower cordial this could be improved. Staff weren’t ready for our arrival and stated “sorry we’ve been busy” but half the restaurant was full. The atmosphere was lacking. No offer of anything else. Lacking some finishing touches and details but was ok."

"I've been coming to the Harrow for 30 years and it sets the benchmark for every other pub I try. It's a beautiful building with a big table at which the locals always invite you to join them and large fireplace taking up most of the main room. The garden is great too, or you can sit out the front of the pub. The landladies run the pub perfectly, one front of house and the other in the kitchen, where food is cooked in/on an Aga. It's a limited menu but delicious and most of it served with a big slab of warm bread. Beer is local and comes straight from the barrel. A warning it's cash only, so come prepared."

"Sorry for the late review, we visited Cafe Rouge for a pre theatre meal as we have been before, but before covid. Well what a difference, there were four tables taken, the waitess came to take our drinks order, then we ordered calamari for starters to share, that was fine, but then we both ordered beef bourguignon, well what we received were children's portions, I would not say we are big eaters, we were given what resembled a soup bowl! I asked for a jug of water with 2 glasses the waitress slammed 2 glasses of water down on the side of the table, we waited for the desert menu, and we waited, we gave up, and asked for the bill, over £18.00 each for a soup bowl of stew is expensive, we left feeling very disappointed to be honest, good job Rev Richard Cole at the Lowry made our night as Cafe Rouge didn't:"

"The meal was delicious and the service was fantastic. We started with the nachos and calamari, which were both very tasty. The nachos could have used a bit more flavor. The waiter was friendly, helpful, and attentive without being overbearing. They provided great recommendations for food. We arrived after 5:30 and enjoyed drinks and appetizers outside before being seated at a perfect table. We tried the hoisin duck pizza, which was recommended, and it was delicious although a bit dry. I would give the pizza and nachos a 4/5, but the excellent service warrants a 5-star rating. They are dog-friendly and have a cute little snowshoe dog named Milo. Our dog was able to relax at our table without any issues."

"This was once our all time favourite café. Since it changed hands we have ventured in four times and now accept it is the place for a coffee, pot of tea, or home made fruit juice. The service is excellent, the venue clean and pleasant, and finding an empty table is not a problem mid week it is near as deserted a fact that says it all. Cakes are not mentioned because the choice and quality has changed. On each occasion we have struggled to get them down with copious cups of tea. Main meals are more expensive than they once were, prices obviously change, but the portions are a lot smaller and the choice not nearly as substantial, especially for a man with a good appetite. We are waiting for the old menus to be dusted off and the return of spicy bean enchiladas, vegetable pies topped with mash and/or pastry, jacket potatoes with numerous toppings, and the amazing salads that came with all meals and contained a little of everything along with a touch of rice, pasta, new potatoes, the odd olive... We sincerely wish the new owners every success if only because we dearly want to become regulars once again. I am sure others will disagree but the owners know that footfall equals turnover and provides the truest picture."

"We won free tickets to a comedy night it. When we got there and spoke to people it seems everyone had WON free tickets to fill the venue. That's fine but if you are struggling to get people into your venue advertising other than fb might be a good idea and details of what food you do a menu price list etc. That a side we were greeted by a very pleasant young man and seated we then queued 30 mins for our first drink by which time we were told the food was no longer been served we and others were in a queue for food eventually they decided to serve the food it was only pie and peas but to their credit the pie was wonderful and the gentleman who served it very polite. Furniture was then rearranged tables moved people asked to move why this had not been done earlier was baffling. The Comedy act started !!! The first act was a magician ?! The bar closed ?? I can understand them not wanting people moving about on a comedy act but at least have table service. 45 mins later bar opens for 15 mins still waiting to be served after standing for 20 min . Some young men in front wanted to double up on there drinks and were told one drink per customer wow surely if you have let everyone in for free and fed them you would want to make money at the bar, The bar had two staff on a young girl who was clearly new and knew where nothing was or any prices. They were badly stocked and the Bar manager so obnoxious and her customer service was deplorable. The bar closed again!! We sat through the second act which was dying on its feet we then left as we in 3 hours we had had two drinks and experience the worst kind of service. The management at The Town Hall need to concentrate on one business and if they are having an event make sure they are prepared for it and maybe invest in some stock and experienced staff. We would love to try The Townhall again only not while these people are in charge. The icing on the cake when we were leaving was the compare asking people who were visiting the bar to take with them all their empties!!! The plates from our food were on our table all night no one removed them."

"I received a recommendation from a shopkeeper in Hartington that instead of paying for parking at the NP carpark, I could enjoy tea and cakes at the tearoom and park for free. Sure enough, there was a sign that said "spend a penny with me and park for free"! I bought a takeaway cup of tea for my thermos and headed off along the Manifold Trail, knowing I was welcome to park for as long as I liked. After three hours of walking, I treated myself to a delicious slice of Banana and Pistachio cake and a hot chocolate (from a machine, but still good). There was also a small gift shop with postcards and local crafts to browse through. The service was friendly, and I found it to be a great deal to be able to park for free in exchange for a drink and snack that I would have bought anyway. Note: Parking is free with purchase from the tearoom."

"Whatever you need, garden , indoors or outdoors these guys have got a lot to offer. There's plenty of parking and easy access for wheelchairs and open space as you're walking around. Plants, flowers, seeds, composts, garden tools of every variety to help those green fingers. There's wood for fire starting, BBQ's, and outdoor furniture to lift the look of your backyard. All your birthdays are covered with all sorts of gifts for interior decor, birthday cards, jewellery and much more. Definitely worth visiting if you're near Exmouth or Budleigh Salterton. There's a cafe to rack up your calorie count for the day with a choice of food on offer. I had a latte that was pretty bad, and we had fairy cakes with mock cream. They've got their Christmas stock and gifts instore now which will help to make those Christmas gifts easier to choose from."

"I thoroughly enjoyed the lentil curry at this restaurant. However, the beetroot curry was too spicy for my liking. The jackfruit small plate starter was also delicious. I took advantage of the 2 for 1 deal on a Wednesday, which was great. I would also suggest trying the garlic roti, it was really good."

"My experience at the cafe today was disappointing. Despite the fact that the place was almost empty, the staff ignored us when we arrived and we ended up leaving without even being acknowledged. It would have been nice to receive a simple greeting or an assurance that they would be with us shortly. Instead, they seemed more focused on chatting amongst themselves. I hope they consider being more attentive and courteous to customers in the future."
