"I made a reservation two months in advance, but when we arrived on time, they told us they couldn’t find our booking. Instead, they allowed a party of six without a reservation to enter. Even after I showed them my confirmation email, they informed us there was no space available. Just when we were about to leave, they somehow managed to find some emergency chairs and seated us right in the middle of the restaurant, despite many empty booths and tables scattered around that remained unoccupied throughout the entire hour we were there. Overall, it was a terrible experience from start to finish. I won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone."

"I have always frequented this restaurant with only a few minor issues. However, last night we placed an order and I specifically ordered a doner burger meal that was supposed to come with a choice of chips, curly fries, or wedges, and a drink. I chose curly fries. When the food arrived, there were no curly fries. I tried calling multiple times but was met with a constant answering machine. When I finally spoke to someone, they were rude and insinuated that I was lying, despite the fact that I had paid 5.99, which included the curly fries (I will attach a screenshot as proof). After about 10 minutes of arguing, the person said they would send out the fries, but they never arrived. I couldn't get through to them again. I will never patronize this dishonest and rude establishment again. It's time to find a new place to spend our money, as they do not deserve it."

"We recently visited Maxwell's as a group of five, and the experience was fantastic from start to finish. The atmosphere was lively, the food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. The chicken wings and frickles were especially amazing—crispy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The menu had something for everyone, and everything we ordered was served hot and full of flavor. What really stood out to us was how accommodating the staff were, especially with our friends who brought their baby. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, providing high chairs and helping us settle in with ease. Their attentiveness and friendliness made the whole experience even more enjoyable, and we felt well taken care of the entire time. Thank you, Maxwell's, for a lovely evening! "We revisited tonight as had a lovely meal last week!! It was like walking into a completely different pub. Service was beyond slow, and when provided with menus advised that they were sorry, but, there was a lack of items!! We ordered drinks first, 20mins and watched them sat on bar for 10 of those, in the end had to ask the young girl who was stood doing nothin, could we perhaps have them to drink, rather than just look at them. We then asked if we could order and she advised she wasn't doing the ordering so had to wait for the young man to arrive. When he did we checked about the lobster as was having our last meal of our holidays and he had previously advised what wasn't in the menu. Advised yes, they had this 20mins after ordering was advised that actually, they didn't have it and something similar they could offer was a monkfish...... (no words to that really). Left us with the menu again and just kept walking past us despite trying to get his attention so we could reorder the missing lobster meal. He just kept sodding about on his iPad thingy and ticking of the tables. During this time also, a gentlemen walked up to the bar to say he was extremely concerned about his groups meal as it was now over an hour since they ordered and no starters had even been served. He proceeded to cancel his starters as they were fed up with the ridiculous delay and lack of any service. With that, we echoed his sentiments and advised we were actually leaving as not prepared hand over our well earned money to an establishment who had got it completely wrong tonight and they weren't even busy. In fact I'd say they weren't even a quarter full. Menu is very expensive and although the food we ate last week was good, it wasn't fantastic. But the 3 ladies who served us were really lovely which was why we had decided to revisit tonight on our last night. Big mistake on our part and extremely disappointing for us as ruined our last evening."

Wouldn 't be surprised if it was all defrosted in the microwave. Service was a well intentioned but calamitous performance by uninterested and under trained staff. The ambience was raucous. It was, however, cheap; you get what you pay for, I guess. Would not return nor recommend."

"a few days ago, since I and my friend got a student discount. first opinions, once I went, was how attentive and friendly our server was. they really seem to care for customer service, so I don't know why there are many reviews on the contrary. we ordered immediately and food came quite fast, which was good. the food was breathtaking. my God the burger was beautiful the onion rings even more. I could eat these onion rings in buckets that were so good. the drinks were quite expensive to be honest as I don't want to pay £2.30 for water. but I feel that Byron brings a beautiful aura to cambridge and I would be happy back hundreds of times and is recommended to friends and family."

"I was here on a Saturday evening around 8 o'clock. Perhaps not the best time to review a cafe/brasserie, however, it wasn't busy so there really wasn't any excuse to my mind as to the poor quality of the food. I had the cod filet, which as it turns out, wasn't a filet at all. My partner-in-crime had the lamb which I think was sufficiently satisfying. He didn't comment on the quality, so I'm guessing that it wasn't exceptional. My dish however was absolutely horrendous. To start the fish was floating in a layer of olive oil, something that I just don't find appealing. If the oil comes halfway up the fish, I'm not a happy camper. Then, the filet was not a filet. It was a full fish, with massive amounts of bones. I didn't expect bones, and they were everywhere. In the first bite, and I take small bites, I had three bones big enough that I had to remove them. To give some credit where credit is due, since I didn't eat the fish, just the grilled-to-mush vegetables that it came with (also schlumping around in oil) we didn't have to pay for the fish. But the waitress made such a big deal out of it that it was incredibly awkward. All-in-all? Poor service, poor food, and screaming babies on a Saturday. Lovely, enjoy."

"We arrived five minutes after their 9am opening time and were greeted with the comment ‘sorry, we don’t have any milk at the moment’. We agreed that we would,have coffee without milk as we were in s bit of a hurry. The breakfast was mediocre, brittle toast clearly from yesterday’s bread, one half rasher of bacon £1.50 as an extra with scrambled egg, eggs benedict with bright yellow glutinous hollandaise sauce and grey ham…They were clearly having a bad day, and so were we. Having been to this Cafs Rouge the day it opened, this was a huge let down."

"Room was overwarm, ran out of onion rings on Easter Sunday so no shops open to get more! Felt it was expensive for what it was no better quality than say a Beefeater at what felt like high prices. Service was friendly and fairly quick but were not many guests think they may have struggled if full. May go back again to a more local restaurant but only if a special occasion due to prices. Suggest they use another platform than OpenTable for booking though as I unsubscribed previously due to getting spammed with emails all the time."

Despite being part of a chain, this location has a unique charm that is easy to forget. Additionally, there is a charming and cozy dining room in the back. "Visited on a Tuesday evening. The food was beyond dry like it was left overs from the weekend.For starters we had burnt end. They were more like lumps of charcoal. I get there burnt end these were incinerated.For mains we had the brisket, again really really dry. It was a struggle to eat it. The chips were the only nice part.No one checked on us while eating. Then when paying the bill when asked how it was we say it was ok ish no follow up to this by staff member. Couldn't be bothered to argue as my partner and I were beyond disappointed. We just wanted to get home as we had travelled to visit on glowing reviews. Will not be revisiting any time in the future."

"We've been big fans of Cafe Rouge, Bath since it opened, and have always appreciated its lively atmosphere and friendly staff. Obviously it's not haute, haute cuisine but good, French style food without too many frills. Today we booked a table for two, as our kids had given us a voucher at Christmas and we thought a Saturday night treat was in order. We expected the place to be busy, but it wasn't; and we noticed customers being turned away even though it was early (before 8.00pm) apparently because of staff shortages. The staff were pleasant (as usual) but service was not particularly prompt. My partner's food was good quality (prawns for starters with moule for mains) but my French onion soup probably spent the day in a pot, and my sirloin steak (rare) was overly gristly, so I had to leave a sizeable amount. It almost feels disloyal to say this but we will think twice about returning. I hope the staffing shortages improve, and we return to the Cafe Rouge, Bath we once enjoyed."

"Our dinner experience at this restaurant was supposed to be a highlight of our week away during Christmas, but unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations. The main issue was that upon being seated, we were informed that many menu options were no longer available. In my 40 years of dining out, I have never encountered a list of unavailable options as extensive as this. The excuse given for the limited food availability being because it was Christmas was wholly inappropriate. Despite this disappointment, the rest of the evening was satisfactory, with the food and service being decent. Overall, it was a letdown. I would recommend that the management improve their menu planning and food ordering process for the future."

"another wonderful evening here with family. that never disappoints. the filet steak boiled medium rare is a firm favorite of me. the rest of my family loved their chicken burgers and mixed grills. the appetizers were again amazing, I had the chicken warm wings and the rest of my family had the baked camembert, broth board, calamari and tomaten and mozzarella salat. the staff above all the woman who greeted us and the lady who took my call when we held in traffic and delayed, were especially beautiful, understanding and friendly. we also had a really nice waitress who served us from the main course. we would definitely come back here and recommend it."
