"Visited the sefton today after not being in for a couple of years. Was surprised to see only 1 member of staff working in the entire pub??? The lady whose name I noticed on the till was Kate . I must say even though it was busy for 1 person to be running the whole pub on their own she was very professional . We ordered food and was told of the wait time for it to arrive . We ordered drinks one being a pot of tea and even though Kate was busy we where surprised when she said I will bring to your table ASAP. Food arrived which we throughly enjoyed. I had a lasagne which was very tasty . We received a checkback from Kate even though she was working on her own under pressure . We felt our custom was welcomed by her . Our plates where cleared swiftly when we had all finished . We stayed for an extra hour due to the level of service Kate provided not only to us but all the customers in the sefton at the time. We saw her interacting with I presume regulars . It was only when we left my son said you do know that lady ie Kate worked at wetherspoons ? Got to say Wetherspoons loss is the seftons gain . I just wish the poor girl had another member of staff working with her and she wasn't running around serving,greeting everyone on her own."

"Have not been to the Chop House for years but really enjoyed my last visit. All members of staff we came across with were very friendly and efficient. The food was delicious as usual. We opted in for a set menu and I had a mackerel salad which reminded me of Niçoise salad, with an egg, plenty of mackerel and French beans, my friend enjoyed Haggis fritters. For the main I had a ham hock which came with thick cut chips, they were crispy from the outside and fluffy inside and runny yolk duck egg, absolute perfection. Dessert was a classic Sticky toffee, I have had it many times in the past and was pleasantly surprised that the recipe hasn't changed, it is absolutely delicious, generous portion swerved with vanilla ice cream and toffee sauce. We really enjoyed our meal and service from the moment we arrived and left. Thank you"

"The atmosphere was far too loud, with speakers blaring everywhere. The football was on, and once it finished, they could have turned the TV down. While we could have requested this, we were hesitant to do so since we weren't locals. The food portions were quite small, and the fries were very pale and unappetizing. It might be okay for a quick stop, but unfortunately, I can't recommend it. Sorry!"

"Food was just average, service is pretty much non existent. You order at the bar after reading a very informative menu with far too many things going on. Don’t ask questions at the bar as they can’t be bother answering or explaining. And when they bring you food there was no word said. Slammed the sauces caddy on the table and walked off. She probably wanted to go back to be sitting down at the table with the other waitress drinking coffee. Yes, it was visible.."

"We stopped by this pub as a regular meeting spot for our group, not because it is particularly good, but because it is convenient. However, recently, the atmosphere has improved and we have found ourselves staying longer due to the staff being more friendly and engaging. We even joked with one of the staff about the absence of the unpleasant manager, who is apparently on holiday, which has made everyone happier. Last Saturday, instead of just one drink before moving on, we ended up staying the whole night, enjoying plenty of drinks and food. With a bar tab of nearly £60 per round and having had 8 rounds, the pub definitely profited from us being there. The manager should take more holidays, as the pub is much more pleasant and profitable without him around."

"the first time in england and wanted real English fish and chips. the pub was clean and tidy. pool table and various edges to entertain everyone. the young tattooed dame behind the bar was friendly and helpful with my asking to the menu. the chips. were in order, but needed salt and ketchup to add taste. I appreciate the fact that the fish were not made over the diligent, but not a real taste again. had to add lemon and other spicy to make it better. the Burger options looked interesting and may require a second visit."

"Had a great double birthday gathering this evening (5th November), lovely experience, the environment was perfect. "Terrible service, waited over an hour for food despite there only being 6 tables occupied. After being told over and over again our food was ‘on its way’, ‘was next’ and ‘was in the lift’, we waited a further 15 mins before seeing a deliveroo delivery heading out of the kitchen. Deliveroo was clearly prioritised and we were constantly being lied too. Can’t comment on the food as we never received it. When asked for a refund, they were incapable of refunding onto our card, so we’re given 8pound cash, when our meals were over 20 pounds. We had to do the maths for them so could refund properly. 2 other tables also complained, 1 also requesting a refund, which took a while. And to top things off there was no loo roll in the toilets. Wouldn’t go back, EVER."

"Went in for food a few drinks on Saturday night for the work's night out but ended up staying later than planned as DJ was banging atmosphere amazing. Didn't have to wait long for a drink at the bar despite how busy it was. Food on offer was mostly your typical pub grub so something for everyone, prices were very reasonable for being in the city centre. Will definitely be making Slains a regular pitstop for further work dos, great night had by all! "

"I ordered a large Chardonnay which was nicely chilled an of a pleasant flavour. I chose fish, chips and mushy peas which came with a generous pot of tartare sauce. The meal was hot and service was prompt and cheerful. The fish was delicious. It was flaky and of an excellent texture and the batter was crisp and pale golden brown in colour. The chips were tasty and the mushy peas among the best I have ever had. For dessert I chose sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. The pudding was certainly not sticky and was spiced which I found most odd and not at all pleasant. The whole was topped by a fairly tasteless, presumably, toffee sauce. I have to say, though, that the Phoenix is a very good town centre pub."

"I went for a meal with my husband on Saturday evening. We were greeted as soon as we entered the pub and were served by the outstanding Zoe! "We reserved a table weeks ahead, then seated 10 mins late. Waited for over an hour for very simple dishes, (longest wait time for a large shared dish on menu is stated 40mins). No apology for this long wait, steak was overcooked: asked for medium and got well done. Ordered 10oz steak, definitely was smaller than this as we compared to 5 oz steak. Finally, they added a compulsory service charge for party of 2, in reality service was terrible. DO NOT RECOMMEND, very overpriced for what it is."

"My wife and I enjoyed a lovely meal at this restaurant in front of the picturesque views. We ordered a mixed board of five items, a surf and turf, and a dessert to share between us. It was absolutely delicious and worth every penny. The atmosphere was nice and the staff were friendly and attentive. I would recommend the lasagna and curly fries."

"A week ago three of us where In Walthamstow. Visited the Goose early evening which was a pleasant and comfortable pub, drink prices reasonable and friendly staff, BUT, terrible food. One of our party was unwell that evening and the steak pie I had was soggy and tasted like it had been microwaved? served with chips and a tiny spoonful of peas and frankly only just about edible. We had a similar experience a few weeks earlier in the Golden Lion in Bexleyheath with the same pub chain. Staff are clearly not being managed or properly trained? Would pop in for again for a drink but not the food."

"This unique kebab shop is located away from Chipstead Tal Street. I visited after work and decided to try the combination of lamb and chicken doner. It was delicious, especially because they freshly cut the meat right in front of me, unlike other kebab places that keep pre-cut meat in a hot container. The chips were a bit smaller than I expected and a little too salty for my taste. Overall, the food quality and service were fantastic, so I would rate it a 3.5 out of 5."
