"POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. My friend took me out for my birthday for a meal and to watch football. We had a drink and then ordered a meal. They advised that they did not have chips and that they were going to replace it with waffle chips. I said no to this and agreed to a potato instead. Ten minutes later, a guy came and told my friend that they have no bacon so he would have have a sausage. My friend did not want a a third sausage but that was an awkward conversation because the guys was quite insistent. They replaced his 2 bacons with one hashbrown instead. This is not what he wanted!! Then the food came. I noted that my food (the mixed grill) was missing a chicken breast. I complained to the staff (I had not been told beforehand). I was told that they had given me an extra sausage. I said I did not want another sausage. The manager went to the back and returned. She asked what did I want as a replacement? I asked what the options were and she said I cam have anything on the menu. I would not mind a steak. She went to the back again and came back and said the chef said steak costs more than the chicken so they would not do it. I said fine, but the chicken breast I was missing out costs more than the one sausage it has been replaced with. The manager went to the back again and said no, we are not changing it. I said OK in that case, can you discount the meal? She said no, she will not discount the mean (she was not very polite by the way). In the end I suggested she refunds the meal, I don't want it (I had not eaten any yet) which she did and I did not eat."

"I've lived around here for years, and this used to be the sort of place where you got what you paid for. It was not flashy or high-quality, but it was a solid, old-fashioned boozer where you could get a cheap ale and some pub grub while watching the football. Now you don't even get that. In the last few months, new management has wrecked what little quality this pub had. It's constantly understaffed (sometimes just one person serving a full bar), the kitchen has been permanently closed, they have barely half the drinks on tap most days, and it seems like you need a degree in electrical engineering to use the speaker system, because not one member of the team ever knows how to change the feed. It doesn't help that staff turnover is turning over like a washing machine (obviously they're as unhappy as we loyal customers are). It was never fancy to start with, but now it has really gone down the pan, and it shows because people who used to come here all the time now go elsewhere. Meanwhile, the prices just go up and up. I know this isn't the fault of the people who do their best working there; it's the management's problem. Sadly, if you're after anything more than your third-choice drink served very slowly by underpaid and undervalued staff who don't want to be there anymore than you do, then go to the Chequers instead, a great pub on Walthamstow High Street. It's a bit dearer, but they do good food, it's cosier, the atmosphere is always fun, and they have multiple screens where you can watch live sports with commentary. I waited a long time before posting this review, because I wanted to give the new era a chance over several visits, but it just ain't working."

"I am deeply disappointed with my recent experience at this restaurant. We ordered only vegan side dishes, specifically fries and vegan nuggets, yet the service was a complete disaster. An item that looked like nuggets was placed on our table and then taken away a total of five times, being placed on different tables around the room before being returned to us. The waiter then said, “sorry we weren’t sure whose food this was but it’s actually yours.” My whole family began eating, only for the waiter to come back three minutes later and tell us we had been given the wrong food. When we asked what nuggets we had eaten, he said it was ham. As Muslims, we don’t eat pork, so we were horrified by this response. We specifically ordered vegan side dishes for a reason. How could they mess that up so badly? Why did we eat here? Because we’re not from Manchester and we specifically went to a nice space to watch football. The waiter took the dish away, leaving us disgusted that we had just eaten pork for the first time. My mother, who wears a hijab, was with us, so it was particularly ignorant of the waiters to mistakenly give us pork. None of them took it seriously or even apologized for the mistake. Instead, when one waiter took the dish away, another one BROUGHT IT BACK and told us we could have the whole thing for free since we already ate it. I told him, “we literally just told the other waiter we don’t eat pork,” to which he responded, “oh okay!” with a smile and walked away. What a nightmare! It was incredibly frustrating to watch them mistakenly put those nuggets on five different tables before assuring us it was ours, only to then tell us they had made a mistake again after we had eaten it. Don’t they have a system to track which food belongs to which table? I also saw these waiters make multiple other mistakes, placing different food on different tables and having people call them back to say they didn’t order it. The waiters are both male with long blonde hair. How is this allowed? If someone had an allergy and mistakenly ate something they didn’t order, this restaurant could be sued. Someone who is vegan/vegetarian could also have been frustrated by this? But obviously, our case was not taken seriously because it wasn’t an allergy. This experience was unacceptable and I am still recovering from it."
