"There are three different dining areas in the hotel including one which could be used for a family gathering or special occasion. The latter and one of the other areas both overlook the water and hills at the front of the hotel so if your...looking for a view best to ask. We were staying a few nights as residents and were automatically allocated a table with a view which was good. The other dining area alongside the lounge bar is attractively furnished and decorated. There are quality paintings from local artists on the walls throughout the hotel which acts as gallery space. Breakfast was served overlooking the water and there was a good choice of items including porridge, full Scottish (with tattie scones), black pudding, etc all using quality products nicely cooked. Excellent. We had two evening meals, again served in the area overlooking the water. There was a decent selection of items on the menu representing local dishes and other popular choices. Eight starters priced between ten mains dishes and desserts On our first evening I chose Loch Fyne Scallops and my wife the Langoustines which were both poached in a lemon white wine. The scallops were perfectly cooked and delicious as were the langoustines although my wife found dealing with the shells a bit of a fiddle. For mains we both had Sirloin Steaks served with a whisky sauce and accompanied with mushrooms, tomato and chips Again the food was cooked to our preference and of a very good quality. On our second evening we had Haggis bon bons with a whisky sauce and Bruschetta for starters followed by Fish Chips The food again was very good. There were a number of guests dining and there was a good ambiance. Service was efficient and pleasant in our experience and we were able to retire to the guest lounge after our meals for some drinks in very comfortable surroundings. Overall, quality food nicely cooked and served."

"for a afternoon tee with my two sisters and mama for a high-time celebration. we were booked for 12.45, we were shown on our table and a dame has an order for drinks. then she asked if we knew what to eat. After I said we were booked for the afternoon, she apologized and said she was not aware. she brought our softdrinks past, then asked if we wanted tee or coffee if someone had any allergies and whether we were obstinate or simply prefer scene. we have made our decisions and then we are almost an hour away! we asked how much longer our food would be and she said it was almost done. she said everything was made of fresh and therefore she asked for allergies and skeletal preferences. I think these information should be requested at the place of booking, so when they book for a time when they are ready to eat. this happens to other places where we had the afternoon. the food finally arrived, we had 4 small fingers of sandwich each. tuna, cheese, egg and ham. It was okay, but very easy. we also had a little salate and a few scratches. we had a scorp with each saw and jam that were beautiful. there were also two big cakes we had the half, some cookies decorated with the crazy hat-maker theme, which looked great but had no taste. during our visit we were not asked if we had a top-up tea or coffee that would have been nice. we were here before the day of the mother to the afternoon and there were 100 better than today. came away to have spent 77, feeling quite disappointed."

"Friends I had birthday lunch here yesterday I must confess to being disappointed. We 've eaten here numerous times in the past. The food was lovely. We were seated by the manager (perhaps? who was attentive however the rest of the service was poor. Although their online menu showed 1/2 lobsters as an option (something I 've enjoyed in the past here it was not on the menu. I asked if it was available (there were 1/2 lobster options on surf turf with scallops was told no. No I 'll check with chef, make enquiries, just no. I was told it was available (on their Jan offer on a Thursday well it was Saturday so not much help today! I ended up ordering a cheaper option. Starters were all delicious wee but shell in my crab mackerel tart but I can forgive that. One friends main course (was technically a starter with side if I 'm being precise was forgotten . Having worked in a number restaurants in my younger years I am astounded the chefs didn 't query why only 3 mains were being ordered when there were 4 covers. In fairness they removed her starter from the bill without quibble. The waitress offered to keep her side warm however my friend asked for a fresh side to arrive with her meal not sure whether that was carried out or not. For another friend 's main, the muscle that attaches the scallop to the shells had not been cut prior to cooking so they were somewhat difficult to remove eat. At £22 a dish we expected them to be prep 'd properly. Also had to repeatedly catch the waitresses attention when required more wine. Other two mains were tasty albeit my dish was not what I I had been looking forward to! All in all it was a disappointing lunch for somewhere we had grown fond of over the years. I 'd recommend jumping on a bus down to Leith to either their sister restaurant (although in fairness I 've not been there in a while! or The Ship Inn (for that elusive 1/2 lobster!"
