"This establishment has a great selection on the menu. On entering the premises, one can see through the semi open plan kitchen with two neatly dressed ethnic chefs preparing food in specially designed uniforms. The place looked clean and the staff very amicable and friendly. The food taste absolutely great and the portions are generous. The owner is extremely courteous and always asks for comments about their food and service. We have been using the delivery service for several years and has absolutely no qualms about the quality and service."

"Visited with two others on a Wednesday evening. The reservation was made quickly and easily a few days earlier via the Spice MerchantOpen Table websites.We were offered a table by one of the front windows, which we happily accepted. From this location, I noted a number of people calling for preordered takeaway meals, which was a good sign that the food is popular with local residents.Service was exceptional, from the moment we arrived to the time we eventually left. Our waiter was extremely polite and attentive, yet not obtrusive. We met the Manager, who was really friendly, very helpful when it came to choosing our food and came over at the end of our meal to offer a very kind and generous "thank you".The wine list was extensive; we ordered one bottle of red and one white. My companions were very pleased by their selections, which complemented the food perfectly. I had a bottle of Cobra beer I initially ordered the nonalcoholic variety, but that was outofstock, so I had a "normal" Cobra and limited my intake of wine I was driving.We were there for the food the menus we had perused online were extensive and this did not disappoint! Portions were good and the flavour, texture and presentation was outstanding! This restaurant must have the best Indian chefs in Berkshire.The bill was reasonable, considering what we ordered and the fact this business serves an affluent area. One of my friends was so pleased by the food and service that so booked her birthday meal there for the following month! The Manager was most accommodating regarding her wishes and we are looking forward to returning just after Christmas for another excellent evening.Well done to all the staff at Spice Merchant, Cookham you deserve awards for producing "Michelin Award" worthy food and looking after your guests so well"

"This was our first visit to this restaurant which is about 5 minutes walk from Chatham Station. There is a varied menu and plenty of vegetarian, fish and meat options. We had difficulty in making our choices, but the waitress made recommendations. The food was delicious and the portions were generous and it was excellent value. "very nice restaurant. love the interiors. beautiful looking place with a bar. and apparently they soon open a Sheesha lounge and look forward to it! had a great experience here. Eat: we started with Indian ingwer and Masala tea, which was really good, and pappadum. for the main course we ordered chicken tikka masala and a fried rice, dhaba chicken and pilaureis and Karahi sprout with plain naan. I must say we were not disappointed by any of the dishes. the food was delicious and portioned enough to fill it completely. price: a little expensive, too little for us students, but I would say it worth it. service: the staff is very polite and beautiful! very happy with the service. definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves or wants to try good Indian food!"

However, we had to wait an hour and a half for our starters and nearly an hour for our mains, which was quite excessive, especially given the high prices. "Myself and 3 colleagues booked for dinner, we arrived and there was only 1 waiter on duty. He sat us down came over with the menu and just put on the table and walked away. After a while he came back, we ordered drinks and before my colleague could order our poppadoms he walked away. The food was awful. The Pilau rice was brown in colour, pilau rice is yellow with cloves and cardamom this was not. The chicken tikka masala was awful, it was luminous orange and the chicken was tough. The chicken byriani was inedible, it was mega spicy, my colleague couldn't eat it. The spinach in the saag paneer was slimy, horrible food. Never going again."

"We stopped by for lunch while exploring the area. At first, I thought the restaurant was closed because it was so quiet, but the manager greeted us warmly. We ordered some Bombay-style snacks to nibble on, and they were quite spicy (I usually avoid spicy foods), but very enjoyable nonetheless. My partner's chicken starter was a bit too salty for our taste (we try to limit salt for health reasons), but the chef came over to chat with us and generously offered to prepare another chicken starter right away. He also adjusted our mains to suit our preferences. The mango lassi was delicious, as was the virgin piña colada. The portion sizes were great too (pictures were taken after we finished eating)."

"To my surprise, many restaurants are closed on Sunday evening in London. Every time I looked up a vegan restaurant on Happy Cow, it turned out it was closed. Since it was late and I was hungry, I had no other option than to select a vegetarian restaurant close by. 1947 Restaurant and Bar is both an Indian and Italian restaurant. The entire menu is vegetarian, however only around 20% is vegan. Many more meals can be made vegan, but so many of them had cheese listed as an ingredient that I didn 't want to run the risk. What if there 's an error in communication between the waitress and the kitchen? Or what if the chef accidentally adds cheese out of habit? I had lots of time to make up my mind, because even though the restaurant was very quiet it took a long time until the waitress came to take my order. I selected vegan biryani because I like biryani and because I 've tried it at so many restaurants that it 's easy to compare. It took a long time for the biryani to be prepared, but then it was served beautifully and smelled divine (as it should be). However, compared to other restaurants it 's a rather simple biryani. It has only one kind of rice (it is often served with both white and yellow rice) and only a few vegetables. There was no tofu, mushroom, potato, no nuts or any protein source. Also, the yoghurt was missing (which is used to extinguish the fire caused by the spices). The portion was generous and the taste was good. Although it was mentioned on the menu, 1947 Restaurant and Bar adds a 12.5% service tax. Why don 't restaurants just increase all prices on the menu instead of giving the customers a nasty surprise at the end?"

"Stumbled across this amazing cafe on walk back to car and majority of their handmade ice creams were vegan (not the boring magnums all the other places in Windsor offered). Had chocolate, strawberry, lemon etc. Also offered dairy free milk, savoury food and vegan cakes/ goodies including banana bread and brownies so I highly recommend to any vegan visiting Windsor you won't find anywhere with more options . The owners are so lovely and friendly and are so knowledgeable on vegan food so it's a breeze!"
