"My partner made a reservation at this restaurant before we went to see Christmas lights at the local garden center and wanted to have dinner beforehand. The restaurant appeared to be cozy and inviting, but unfortunately, the service was very disappointing. We were seated and asked for our drink order right away, which is standard, but then, within 3 minutes, a waitress approached us to see if we were ready to order food. With a 1-year-old child in tow, it took us some time to get settled and look at the menu. I requested 5 more minutes to decide, but the waitress passed by our table 3 times without coming back to take our order. After waiting for 25 minutes (and with a tight schedule due to the Christmas lights booking), I had to get up to find someone to take our order. When our food finally arrived, it was underwhelming and didn't justify the high prices on the menu. I ordered the curry, which was overly spicy and the chicken seemed to be frozen. My partner's steak, ordered medium rare, was closer to rare and didn't meet expectations given the high price. The only redeeming factor was the decent chips. I'm not from the area, but I wouldn't consider revisiting if we attend the Christmas lights again next year. Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 3"

"We visited this restaurant on our first night in Durham as it was close to where we were staying. I am delighted that we did as the food was really good. There was a very good choice of main meals and also desserts. I can thoroughly recommend the chicken dishes and also the pannecotta. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we returned again on our last night. The service was very good and our waiter was especially attentive and helpful as I have to eat gluten free. Thank you for two very enjoyable and tasty meals out."

"my wife and I try to get a meal at least once a month, previous visits here were very good. starter were in order, but I ordered a medium rare filet steak for my head, got my steak, which was done well, mistakes happen, but try to tell me that the steak was medium rare was just frustrating, I should not explain the difference, so replaced my steak with a medium rare, although after my wife had finished her meal."

"We had a table reservation but when we arrived, the restaurant was closed without any prior notice and there was no sign on the door. We had made the reservation 2 weeks in advance only to find out that they had closed the day after we booked. It was disappointing that they took our reservation knowing they were going to close. Overall, the food, service, and atmosphere all received a rating of 1."

"We picked this restaurant because of its reviews and found that you need to book if you want to visit. The starter particularly was well presented and was the favourite part of the meal. Wine was very good and the mains were nice but the steak was a little chewy and the lasagna didnt wow me and I found it a little bland but that may be me. Service was superb from the time we entered the restaurant till the time we left. Didnt have space for deserts. A lovely restaurant which was inviting, medium priced and was far better than the meal we had in the hotel the night before. It will be on our list to return. To find this restaurant opposite the clock on the main street is an archway Go through the archway and the restaurant is tucked in the righthand corner"

"We were very disappointed with the food at this restaurant. Having spent 5 weeks in Italy, including Sicily, last year, our expectations were quite high. The arancini lacked flavor and were much smaller than the ones we had in Sicily. The porcini mushrooms in the pasta seemed to be frozen, as they were soggy and did not have the delicious flavor of fresh or dried ones. The pasta had an overwhelming amount of tomato sauce, making it quite boring. Even the ravioli seemed like it could have been store-bought, drowning in tomato sauce. The highlight of our meal was the goat cheese salad, which was delicious. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was great."

"My experience with the 'penny pizza' promotion at this restaurant was not very positive. Despite being a good deal, one of the pizzas arrived much later than the others, an extra pizza was charged on the bill, and the quality of the pizzas was disappointing. The toppings were dry and overly sweet, and the crust lacked chewiness. While I have enjoyed drinks at this venue before, I will not be dining there again."

"This was our first Christmas dinner out as a family so we did not know what to expect. We have been to the Packe Arms many times and have always been impressed. Christmas Day was no exception. Staff were lovely, food was brilliant and the atmosphere was very festive. We particularly loved that there was a busy atmosphere but that the pub had not been packed to the max. The flow of families was very well managed, it wasn't too crowded and you weren't rushed off your table either, but there were enough people about to feel like tounwere sharing the daybwith others. We were served quickly but leisurely and not once we're we made to feel an inconvenience or a bother. "This always looks busy at lunch time however we went on a Friday evening and it was very quiet. The food wasn’t great, the garlic bread had definitely been microwaved, as had my pasta dish. The pizza was at least freshly cooked but the toppings were dry. The service was very quick but made us feel very rushed, the minute i finished they took my plate, despite the fact my partner was still eating! When she took our starter plates we were asked if we wanted our mains now or wanted a break. On the assumption that our food would be cooked fresh we said now expecting a minute wait or so but she brought it out within seconds. We were in and out in about minutes having had a drink, starter and a main each. Not the relaxed and fresh meal we were hoping for! As I said, it’s always busy in the day so maybe the food and service is better then but I would definitely not recommend for dinner"

"If you’re looking for a lovely lunch/dinner in Bath, we can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough. After reading many brilliant reviews, we decided to give it a try. We received wonderful, attentive and knowledgeable service straight away from Giovanni which was great. We had two gluten intolerant members of our party and he was great with clearly explaining what we could safely have. The quality of food at this restaurant is absolutely fantastic, and the chef cooked everything to perfection. We are real foodies, so we know good quality where we see it, hats off to where they supply their produce. We had steak for mains, cooked in the kitchen and also a block to finish off one at the table which was great fun! Absolutely making steak, best we’ve had in a long time. We absolutely loved our lunch, couldn’t fault anything and would definitely return on a future visit to bath. Thankyou for a such wonderful lunch, p.s the Malbec was outstanding!"

"Right next to the castle entrance. Great place to take a break after sightseeing. The bar is upstairs and got a little den area for extra seatings with a great view of the cobblestone street castle. £1 oyster during happy hour 3-6pm daily. Whisky tasting, a happy hour menu with generous portions. Pricing is very reasonable given its prime location setting. A value especially if you could take advantage of the happy hours. "We enjoyed a 3 course vegan menu with 3 options for each course. Our meal began with bread, though there was no vegan butter available, the staff kindly provided us with olive oil and balsamic vinegar as an alternative. For our starters, we shared the tempura vegetables and garlic bread with mushrooms, both of which were delicious. Our main courses included a strudel and vegetable tart, both bursting with flavor. We had planned on sharing a sticky toffee pudding for dessert, but the waiter surprised us with a vegan brownie that wasn't on the menu - a wonderful addition to our meal. Despite the generous portions, all three courses were priced at just £17.50 each. The service was excellent, and we had a fantastic overall dining experience. We highly recommend this restaurant."
