"Came here this evening, ordered the loaded nachoes which were amazing, loaded with chicken, cheese and dips. Partner ordered steak medium rare, the steak was so tender I didn't need a steak knife, just melted in your mouth. We had some cocktails too which were really good. Staff were lovely and really attentive nothing was not too much trouble. Would definitely go again, only rated a 4 as I would have liked a window seat, we will mention this on our next booking, as the views onto the town are lovely."

"We came across this pub on a drive the other day and decided to book in for lunch Really cosy style pub with lovely log fires, different seating areas and a large car park There are amazing views from the back of the pub Extensive menu with something for everyone and the prices are decent also Far too many pubs these days yet to make their menus posh and fancy but this one is great home cooked food and lots of choice We had the plate meat onion pie with chips mushy peas and the steak ale pie with chips and peas. They were large portions and really tasty We also had a pudding each, a cheesecake which was a round one which was cute with icecream and the almond raspberry bake with custard Will definitely be coming back here as we had a lovely time The waiter and waitress were both so friendly and helpful A credit to the pub"

"We stayed here for 2 nights during the week (Wednesday and Thursday), using a Buy a Gift voucher we had been given for Christmas. I 'm really pleased we found this place. We were greeted by a lovely member of staff who ended up serving us for the 2 nights we were there. The room we stayed in (standard double) was lovely and clean. A decent size too. The flat screen TV was large enough to watch clearly from the bed I 'm guessing it was a 32 screen or similar. The shower room was modern and clean. We spent a decent amount of time in the room watching TV etc, but it was the bar and restaurant that really impressed us. Firstly the drinks. We 're both fans of Guinness, and the draft Guinness at The Sun is well kept. We also tried the Madri lager, a flavoured gin and tonic, and a bottle of Malbec wine. Secondly the food. Wow. On our first night, it was theme night, and the theme was Winter Warmers . We both opted for the home made steak pie, with chips and veg. Absolutely delicious. Really good sized portions too. On our second night, the full menu was available. I chose the steak and chips, while the Mrs chose one of the Chinese style dishes (chicken in honey/chilli sauce). My porterhouse was lovely, but my wife 's meal was amazing. I continually found myself using my chips to pinch the sauce from her plate. On atmosphere it was pretty good both nights. Wednesday is the ladies ' darts night, and Thursday is the men 's darts. Both nights the pub was fairly busy, with a friendly atmosphere. We both felt completely welcomed. The owners and the staff who work here are lovely, they really made us welcome, and I have promised one of the owners that we will return in future, bringing our kids with us next time. Thanks for a great stay. "The girl behind the bar was very rude. As soon as we arrived she asked what name the table was booked under and repeated it back incorrectly. She then asked what we would like to drink. My partner asked for a becks, which was served in a bierra moretti glass. I asked for a house white wine was told they didn’t have a house white. She then reeled off eight names of wine, all white. I said I’d have a Sauvignon to which she said ‘New Zealand or French?’ She then served me a New Zealand white in a red wine glass! I was also under the impression they do Sunday roast as shown on their website from 12 midday with no end time was very disappointed when there was no roast on the menu. The waitress we ordered food from was very nice and polite. My partner asked for Cromer crab after ordering it thought about how he was going to de shell it. He immediately asked a different waitress if they could de shell it for him thinking if they couldn’t he would order something else. She didn’t come back with an answer so he had to ask again!! I have no complaints about the food. The food was very nice. The chef also did a good job of serving the crab as requested. When we finished our food we went downstairs to pay the bill the rude waitress slammed some glasses on the bar right in front of us. We just paid the bill and went."

"Sometimes you come across a gem of a place- This is certainly one. Meal, service, vibe, all first class. Prices are keen but this seems to be the norm these days, but the food was well presented and cooked to perfection. Price of drink very reasonable compared to other establishments in town. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Many thanks."

"The food at this restaurant is excellent. It is clearly prepared by a skilled chef who knows what they are doing, rather than just reheating frozen dishes. Three of us ordered the black pudding and haggis stack, while one had the rarebit. All of the dishes were fantastic and absolutely delicious. We all agreed that our main courses were fantastic and were impressed by the fresh and perfectly cooked vegetables served with them (cabbage, broccoli, leeks, mange tout). The chips also deserve a special mention - they were delicious! Unfortunately, we were too full to try any desserts. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Although we have only recently moved to the area, we will definitely be returning to this restaurant."

"We went tonight for a birthday meal and we won’t be returning. The staff are fine but not the most pleasant or enthusiastic. We ordered potato skins and the flowering onion for starter the onion was bland and the potato skins were inedible, they were tough, hard and we couldn’t even chew them. The homemade bbq sauce is the strangest thing, the onions in it are undercooked and it tastes nothing like bbq. But that’s by the by. The gentleman did come and apologise about the potato skins and said it was a problem with the potato season. But I’ve literally just seen a review from January that had the same problem as us, so who knows. My parents then had the pan fried cod and chips, one had the regular one had the large and there was a £4 difference in the two. There was literally no difference at all in the portion of fish or accompaniments. They did say that the cod was lovely however. My husband has the parmo and it was fine, but the chips were nothing flash. Not proper chunky pub chips anyway. I ordered steak pie and the filling was awful. It was grey and watery in colour and it was so tasteless. Everyone else tried it to make sure I wasn’t over reacting but it was shocking. I didn’t eat it and again they removed it (and the skins) from the bill, but by then all I had eaten was a bread bun and some mediocre chips. We weren’t asked if we wanted anymore drinks, my Dad asked for a pint and they said yeah and walked off but didn’t give the rest of us chance to ask for a drink. They then got the drinks order wrong. We asked for lemon and lime and they brought pints rather than asking what we wanted mind you at £4 for a lemon and lime there’s no wonder! As a family of 4 we had one flowering onion, two cod, one parmo, 2 pints, 4 soft drinks and a J20 and it was £80, because they knocked off the skins and pie which was an additional £20. We were really disappointed and would definitely not recommend."

"I highly recommend this restaurant. I was very impressed with the tuna Ragu starter, which had a fresh tuna taste and was almost like minced meat. The mussels were also fantastic - meaty, sweet, and not overcooked. The boys enjoyed the Thai fish curry, which had big chunks of fish and was served with a portion of jasmine rice. Our mussels came with a side of thin chips, which were delicious. For dessert, we had a heavenly sponge cake, a personal crème caramel, and a chocolate mousse with tasty fresh berries. Everything was delicious and definitely worth trying."

"Wow! Booked Porter Rye for my 40th birthday celebration with my husband. The customer service was outstanding, the staff very very attentive and lovely considering it was a Saturday night and busy! They went above and beyond and gave us complimentary prosecco as a birthday treat and a lovely plate of gorgeous little cakes with happy birthday written in chocolate at the end. It is the little things like this that make Porter Rye a truly special place! The restaurant has a really good atmosphere, we didn't want to leave! The food was out of this world, everything was cooked to perfection and clearly the chefs are at the top of their game. Genuinely can't wait to come back...thank you to all the team for making me feel special and for making the last night of my 30's one to remember! See you soon x"

"This restaurant is a fantastic hidden gem with a lovely outdoor dining area, ideal for relaxing summer nights with loved ones. The staff and service were outstanding, and they were very accommodating for vegans, offering alternative options and modifications to make dishes vegan-friendly. I was pleased with the food when it arrived and would definitely recommend this place."

"Whilst everybody seems to rave about Mark Hix and his London priced mediocre food and badly kept beer, they have lost sight of the fact that in his short tenure, he has destroyed one of the best village pubs in Dorset. To those who say that it's the best meal they ever had, I would say Living on a diet of junk food and takeaways doesn't necessarily make you a good judge of culinary standards. Shame on you Mark Hix."

"We have been coming to Kyloe for a few years now and the Sunday lunch is great. Food in general is great. The only comment on the Sunday lunch is there are too many sauce options. Creamed cabbage. Creamed horseradish and gravy. Too much cream. And the horseradish has no bite. It would be great to just have some actual horseradish or mustard. Just need a bit of variety. It has been the same for a long time. We love it and will be back but a wee change would be good. Even just as an option. It would also be good to have some mid-price bottles of wine ..... feels very expensive."

"Located in the basement, easier access via Colin Campbell Car Park. Booking is not essential but highly advisable. We were a party of 16 for a surprise birthday party, so pre-booked and ordered starters and main courses in advance. This made the work of all staff much easier, which they appreciated. Food was excellent, including vegan and special dietary needs and a couple of young children. Drinks are ordered at the bar with a minimum card spend of £10. Staff were very helpful and competent as well as patient with the children and disabled members of the group. Not suited to wheelchair users as the flight of stairs is short but steep. Overall, it was good value for money and a good night out. One downside was as the evening wore on, the music got louder and conversation was impossible. That was the general consensus of the group. Having said that, everyone enjoyed the night and would recommend it to others."

"We visited on a whim... We were welcomed by the most amazing and attentive front of house. He seated us in the front of the restaurant. He was so professional and knew the menu inside out along with the cocktail menu. We ate garlic prawns...with home made bread and dips , they were succulent and tasty. This was followed by a fried sea bass and a trio of meats. The meats were succulent and flavoured beautifully , the fish was well cooked in a tasty crust. Really too full for desert, but we decided to share the baclava with cream and ice cream this was delicious. This was a very welcome and unexpected lovely evening. Well done for the food and great staff."

"Had a sumptuous Sunday lunch today at The Inn, Castledawson. Started with lovely selection of breads with selection of butters, which was appreciated. My husband and I both had turkey and ham with stuffing, served with mash and selection winter veg. The turkey and stuffing were delicious and the baked ham was so tender and tasty. Beautifully presented by pleasant staff members and so enjoyable. The best turkey and ham dinner I’ve had in years, and there have been many. Daughter had braised shin of beef, tender and tasty, and again very well presented. Brother had hake (fish of the day) which he really enjoyed. We’d two starters both choosing the fish cake, and two deserts, one apple crumble and the other raspberry and champagne posset. Finished off with decaf coffees and tea. Can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough. Already looking forward to my next visit ……"

"We arrived yesterday for a two night stay, dinner, bed and breakfast deal with travelzoo booked for my birthday. Hotel room really nice but the restaurant service and food is really bad. On arrival at we, along with most of the restaurant were kept...waiting at every step of the service. We booked the deal after reviewing the hotel and restaurant on their website. The menu advertised is not the menu you receive, the advertised menu having a much greater choice of food and photos of steak not as it is presented ie on a board. This I would think is very misleading to potential customers. My husbands meal was total disaster. Starter of crispy whitebait was soggy, far from crisp, which we informed the staff. After finally being served our main course at my husband received chilli with a portion of rice he could not even put his fork through. He complained and it was replaced with what must have been a dessert spoon of rice. In the short time it took to return it, I would guess they have just broke through the hard rice on his plate and scooped out the middle, the chill was also not piping hot. At this point most of the customers in the restaurant were making comments as being able to ‘socialise’ with each other as they were having to wait so long to be served food, totally not acceptable. We then complained to the duty manager in the restaurant and then to reception who took down all the details of the complaint and said they would pass it to the manager today. I had sirloin steak and chips which was ok but not brilliant and not presented well. They offered a free glass of wine each, which I said this was not good enough and not the compensation we should be receiving. They said this was just a gesture and the matter would be sorted out today. I informed them it was so bad we would not be eating in the restaurant tonight to experience this again. I have attended the reception this morning to ask for an update on my complaint. I was told there was no manager available to speak to and we were on a party booking which was paid for. I pointed out that regardless of it being a party booking or direct with the hotel, this a complaint about the restaurant. I was offered an e-mail address to make a complaint but I have asked for the hotel to contact the relevant manager and for them to contact me. I am now awaiting a response. We will be eating elsewhere tonight. I’m sure there will be many complaints to the hotel and recorded on tripadvisor after yesterday evening"

"The service was fab this evening for our party of 10, friendly attentive. Unfortunately we found the food to be quite mediocre, we had garlic bread starter which we found quite dry and we had a Julio pizza which again was dry and bland, I’d not eaten at Soho for years and had heard good things but have to say I was a little disappointed. We had mixed reviews on our table for the food. Personally I wasn’t overly impressed. It has a nice atmosphere and again the staff were wonderful."

"good location, nice staff and outsight were excellent. for the price class should be the first set, but not as expected we are stuck with the usual cotenders like fish and chips, sensen and sampi. the mustels were excellent, but the fresh fish and chips, and fresh scampi is where the restaurant is a great fence of the scampi is frozen and grown up in restaurant trading that they know machine covered scampi made every day, the scampi was perfectly round and had a thick layer of baked coating that was perfect even. freshly made scampi is never so perfect and for seven small pieces, a small basket of chips and a dry salad without dressing is certainly not worth. the fish was another story, I think it is fresh, but comes with a super thick layer of beerbatter that looks the fish big, but absorbs a lot of oil when fried and gives a very oily meal. it comes with a small basket of French pommes and some muddy baptisms for three small softdrinks, main courses as described and a child eaten comes the total number more than that would have been no problem if the quality of the food were good. we could have complained about our meal at the staff, but this was our first dinner in almost a year, as this is going to be locked up and should not come to it. these courts are fundamental, and to scott’s price point they should have been great."

"The Hawksmoor on Air Street is our feature of the day. The @hawksmoorrestaurants is decadent, whilst also engendering a relaxed and almost casual atmosphere, which was nice. Our waitress spoke knowledgeably about the various steaks and made suggestions which suited us perfectly. In fact, she was adorable. She was smiley, attentive and had a good sense of humour. We had a lovely time. This restaurant is good for a celebration or a treat. They also have an option (correct as at the time of writing, but you may need to double check when you visit) which will enable you to have 2 courses for £22.00 or 3 courses for £25.00 Monday to Sunday until 18:30 from their Express Menu. Sadly, we visited too late to take advantage of this option... But, I will definitely visit again! We had Sirloin Steak (400g) Chateaubriand (500g) Peppercorn sauce Triple cooked chips Creamed spinach Buttered new potatoes Sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream ice-cream Jasmine tea Tonic water with Lemon I've also included a few pictures that I took of Central London on the way home! London is so beautiful at this time of year! Should you go here? An unresounding YES! The food was delicious and the flavours were tantalising my taste buds long after the feeling of hunger had subsided..
