"My partner and I had been looking forward to a revisit to The Crystal Palace Market. This was our fourth visit and previously we have enjoyed excellent service and incredible food. The food, as per usual, was excellent... however on this occasion the service really let us down. It was clear that there were some new staff on that night. We had a very lovely new waitress who served us wine, she was honest about it being her 1/2nd shift, but she was very friendly, polite and pleasant. The food came and we got stuck into our meals, great tasting and nicely presented. During the meal though a waiter was taking orders from the table behind, but he was so close to me that I couldn’t even move my elbow to use my fork. I tried to say excuse me but he wouldn’t listen, he took the whole tables orders from that position, I had to lean to my right and put my cutlery down. (He was clearly not a new waiter, as we’ve seen him before) I finished my plate before my partner, who still had a sizeable portion of her meal left. Another different new waitress then approached the table and asked me if I had finished, I replied yes, but before I could say anything more she cleared my plate and was about to clear my partners. We had to stop her, but by that point she’d already taken my plate and the rest of our side order off the table, so we had to ask her to put the side back on the table. She apologised but it slightly tainted the end of the course. We then decided to have a post meal cocktail instead of dessert. Another 3rd clearly new waiter took our order, nervous, but polite enough. Our cocktails came, but it was clear that mine had been made without the crucial ingredient (the alcohol) I ordered an old fashioned, but all that was in the glass was sugar syrup and bitters. I used to work at a cocktail bar during my early 20s and an old fashioned is one of my preferred choices, so I knew for a fact that it had been missed. I caught the eye of the waiter who’d previously leant over me and explained the situation. He immediately tried to argue rather than apologise, sniffing it before shrugging his shoulders. I again said that I was sure there was no alcohol in the drink and if I could get a new one. Begrudgingly he took the drink back. It took a while for the replacement to be brought back, but again instead of apologising, he just said ‘I’ve smelt it this time, there’s some in this one’. A tainted experience unfortunately, we probably won’t be returning soon. When you pay £60 a head you expect much better service. There was no option given to exclude the tip either."

"really really bad experience with this place! I ordered a simple order of 4 items, it took 50 ,ins to arrival, fair enough, but then I had 1 item missing and another item which was completely wrong. so I call them up and explain and they...have no clue, so takes 10 ,ins to explain to 1st staff which he tries to tell me he is going to send me my correct order for free .... excuse me it's not free I already paid for it and didn't get it!!! then then I ask how long it will now take to get my new items ... he doesn't know has to speak to someone else about it... staff 2 comes on phone and again I have to explain myself again and then wait for him to pull up my order for him to check what I am saying is true..... so then I ask if as a gesture to a unhappy customer if they will refund me my 2 items I never got and now have to wait another 40 mins to get ..... while my other food is getting cold .... answer to my request for refund was ,, arh as you paid online we can't refund you, you already paid...... nothing we can do!!!!! kept trying to tell me that I am getting my money worth because hey we're sending out my food again.... the ones that was missing in first place... !! kept trying to offer me more other food for free... which I had to repeat my self over 10 times, I did not want other food, just the correct ones I ordered...! managed did not want to talk to to on phone, because he didn't want to give me any money back to correct their mistake and keep good customer service, which is something they REALLY do not have. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE!!! you run the risk of paying for food you get get to eat and wait almost 2 hrs....."

"Warm welcome at the door to a bright and trim restaurant that has a natural ambience of busy but personal. From the moment of sitting you are made to feel like you 're the only table that matters, this was a nice touch. Of the 4 of us, 3 were drinking alcohol, we simply asked for the House White which was fit for purpose. I 'd heard the starters were quite large so we opted for 3 of the 'Nibbles ' options, these were only plenty big enough to suit us. Do try the deep fried rice balls, they are lovely. We had mains of Pizza, Spaghetti frutti di mare, Fillet Steak and Pollo Funghi. Steak was ordered Rare, it arrived, Rare. As the most expensive dish, this was the most important. They were keen to check it was OK very soon after first cut. The ongoing service was excellent, attentive and polite. Conversation was made but not in an intrusive way and we were never interrupted if in conversation with each other. That is the sign of a good host. Everything was clean, and heavy cloth napkins are a very nice touch. Water is already on the table and refilled without asking. I was not drinking alcohol, so had the Bud Blue zero. I 'd have maybe liked one or two more options on that particular point but it certainly didn 't spoli anything. We sat for nearly 2 hours, taking it at our pace and the bill for 4 adults was £162. We feel that was very reasonable as the food was fresh and of superb quality. The sauce for the Chicken was divine, with mushroom that actually had a stronger taste. We opted for the Peppercorn sauce with the Steak which was also fantasic. The Potato and Veg sides served with the main were plentful and hot. We will be going back."
