"This is still a good place to eat, but it has undergone a makeover which has totally changed destroyed ? the ambiance. From intimate and comfortable it has morphed into bright and clinical, with nothing to absorb the noise or to soften the effect. Some may like it, but it has changed dramatically from the inviting French Bistro that became a Battersea success story. Here was a great opportunity to stick with the brasserie charm but maybe increase the covers and increase contact safety by eg putting in some traditional booth seating. Instead you walk through the door and encounter a gleaming canteenstyle counter, bright floor tiles and white, white walls and ceiling. Let's see what happens, but if it doesn't work they should quickly rip it out and dumb it down. Quel dommage"

Gazette has to be one of the most charming restaurants south of the Thames.

Interesting menu choices in a restaurant that does French cuisine proud. As the menu changes frequently there is always something new to try

The food was amazing and the drinks were great too. The service was outstanding, however our plates took quite longer than expected. Other than that we would definitely recommend it. Ambiance is ok, not sure if it was the time we went, but is super casual

Awful service, very disappointing. They messed our order, then it took ages for them to arrive. This meant we had our meals separately as it took so long. No apology, no compensation, and no gratitude. Not what you'd expect from a place like this and paying for lunch for We won't be coming here ever again. This place is so pretincious as are their staff

Unfortunately, a disappointing meal. We’ve got a salmon tartare for the started which was decent. Swordfish steak and duck fillet we’ve got for our mains were poorly cooked duck was really tough while fish was oversalted and overcooked, spinach on the side was bland and looked as if someone had forgotten it in the fridge for a week and then just put on a plate without even cooking beforehand. Was really hoping we’ve discovered a cozy French brasserie for casual dinners but I’m afraid I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone and will not come back

This is a followup to my critical first review following the recent makeover. Completion of the back wall with its eclectic collection of 'stuff' has considerably improved and softened the ambiance, but the main improvement is the lowering of the previously harsh lighting levels. The counter area still looks a bit too shiny and canteenstyle for an authentic French brasserie, but overall the experience was good though still not as 'intimate' as of old. I wonder if more can be done to tonedown the noise level which the new hard surfaces seem to amplify, possibly with the introduction of a few more fabric surfaces ? Possibly even the cheese offering might return, which seems a strange omission...
