"I may be old fashioned but I like to be acknowledged when I’m waiting to be served. 4!or 5 bar staff walked past us and completely ignored us. Finally we were seated at a table that was not set up. We waited an age before we finally saw someone to ask if they would take our drinks order. Was told that someone would be with us soon and had to wait a further 10 minutes to order and for the server to then get our drinks wrong. When we questioned this she said ‘yeah i know. I won’t charge you for them’ ! Food was ok. Desert was good and the only good service we got was from the guy carving the meat. Such a shame that customer service is not a priority in this day and age. I won’t be going back!"

"It’s organised chaos! booked a table at 7.15 sat down an hour later! was told they do it on a list basis! There was cleared dinner plates sitting piled up on the bar for the hour we was there never moved, it was disgusting, hardly any staff on couldn’t get a drink a poor young lad who was hobbling about looked like he broke his foot could hardly walk he should of been sent home! he told us he nearly passed out in the toilet from the pain but the Manager on duty wouldn’t let him go totally appalling!!"

"Been here a few times and been good. I don’t know what’s happened but omg it’s horendous. The roast potatoes are hard,white and black around the edges. Not inviting at all. Got small ones(benefit of the doubt) vile. Left it. The mash was like...pure slop and I mean slop. The gravy like water swimming round the plate. No gammon. I got pork and turkey(small amount which to be fair was nice. My meal was basically bit of meat small spoon of peas and carrots (very dry)Yorkshire pudding(nice) and spoon of stuffing (Rock hard)and watery gravy. Never again !"

"we set up half an hour before our booking period (in not very nice wise) they were closed for a private function. we explained we had made a booking, then to say that we had not, as they had all called, who had. I'm still waiting for the call. We made the booking on the same day, so maybe a communication mistake for the rude girl on the door of the ground is that we're not back."

"This was the worst carvery I have ever had. Waited for the guy to come out of the kitchen to carve the meat for what seemed like an age. We were seated by an open window with the wind blowing in we asked the waitress if we could close it, blinds filthy which in turn left hands filthy. The food was totally cold. The meat was extremely fatty but managed to get a small piece without fat. The meat was tough. In the end we gave up because it was too cold to eat. Informed the waitress of our disappointment and her response was well you should have said and walked off. Never again."

"Visited Toby in Thanet a fair few times over the year's and it's very hit and miss if you get a good one. Went yesterday with my daughter and granddaughter, the lady in front asked if there was more stuffing as the one on show was dry, so he took the lid off the one behind which was just as bad, 3 trays of very dry looking roast potatoes and veg not looking better! The beef was so fatty and inedible, my granddaughter had 3 sausages instead of meat, 1 roast potatoes, some green beans £6 odd! I told the waitress the food was cold, I mean cold, she said she would let them know,, but over the time we was there she went no where near the kitchen. There is never a temperature check in all the times I've been, worse thing I noticed some of the roast potatoes had gravy on them, do they reuse them off of customers plates? They spent alot of money on a refurb, shame they don't invest in kitchen training. We all ate it, and I paid the £42 bill but that's it, enough chances, not going back"

"myself and my girlfriend visited this restaurant on Sunday the 23rd Aug. Considering how busy the place was, and noticeably some of the staff were a little stressed, they were also very accommodating. A group of gypsy travellers were in a section of the restaurant and were being quite noisy. The waiter with a neard apologised for the racket.Soon after we got out meals, a table was knocked over by one of the gypsies and so they were asked to leave. This man was very drunk and thus started being threatening to the staff. The staff were never rude, but firm in asking him to leave. He got very close to the gentleman with the beard and personally threatened him very nastily. It took 6 staff members to eventually persuade him to simply stagger out the door. I just wanted to congratulate the staff for their courage against someone who believes they are invincible and for the way they kept their cool. It was a tough and sensitive situation which could have almost definitely been a lot worse."

"Christmas dinner for 14 people. Camembert starter was nothing like a Camembert, was more like a suet pudding sitting in watery cheese. The carvery would of been ok but one person serving on his own was slow and food became lukewarm waiting. The puddings were a disaster apart from the cheesecake) brownies and Christmas pudding were so hard they were inedible and we were told we couldn’t change them. Didn’t expect a gourmet meal but for £58 pp, and it being Christmas Day it should of been better."

After being seated, we waited half an hour for the cook to bring our food. "My daughter and I decided to have a carvery after a long day but didn’t get what we expected at all . We go inside and order one regular size carvery and one kids size and go to get our food . We did find it weird that there was only 3 people in there but brushed it off thinking that it was the time we went there (4:00) . We wait to be served and look over at the meat and it look dry . Super dry . When the person infront was being served we could hear shouting and singing from the kitchen and from then we knew they were messing about instead of working. Gladly the people infront asked for the turkey to be changed otherwise that would have been bone dry too .When we finally got served we got our meat it was time for sides and veg . When we walked over I looked over at the veg and it looked like it was sitting there for the whole day … it was shrivelled up and it looked nasty. the Brussels sprouts were rock hard and the carrots looked dehydrated. My daughter had some cauliflower cheese and it just tastes watered down . We both agreed the potatoes looked burnt , gravy just tasted ew and was extremely lumpy .All the sides just looked old and sad and We were not impressed at all . We ate what edible which left us unsatisfied . This was a complete waste of money and left unhappy."

"I visited this Toby carvery twice recently on a Saturday afternoon. It was easy to drive to, with plenty of parking. In fact the car park, grounds are well planted with greenery. The outside of the building is in good condition, the interior design decor are tasteful, in good condition. The tables are quite well separated, comfortable seating. There is a small bar area, also outide area, probably nice in Summer. It was very easy to book a table on the website, both times i've been greeted quickly, in a friendly manner, quickly shown to our table. The Carvery I consider reasonably priced I think, at £8.29 on a Saturday, (I think it is a bit less on weekdays, a bit more on Sundays. plus drinks of course. We didn't need to queue for long to get our choice of Beef, Turkey, Gammon, Pork, plus a yorkshire, stuffing, then a range of veg. peas, green beans, carrots, roast potatoes, parsnips Plus nice gravy, sauces if required. (You can even go back for more veg gravy if you can manage any more !! Staff were all friendly helpful, the food was just a great roast meal !"

I had truthahn, it never looks much when they put it on, but when they start eating it, it seems to be straining. many of the Veg selections and the roasted and filling were beautiful. only negatiw for me personally is that they have ceased to make garlic, but the masque that she still had was still beautiful. "I visited the restaurant for a carvery on Thursday this week, and honestly, it was nearly flawless! The food was hot, and the portion of meat was generous. I had requested a large portion but ended up receiving a regular one; however, it was quite loud, so I can overlook that, haha! After my positive experience, I returned on Saturday for breakfast. It was almost perfect, but not quite as impressive as the carvery. When I went up to the buffet, there were no breakfast Yorkshire puddings available, but I assume they were restocked fairly quickly. The same issue occurred with the mushrooms, which also limited my options. Additionally, I noticed the absence of scrambled eggs, even though it’s listed on the menu. I'm not sure if this is a recent change or if they no longer serve scrambled eggs for breakfast. Overall, I believe a rating of 4 out of 5 is very fair!"

"15 minute wait to be seated, 10 minute wait to have drinks order taken, another 10 spent in a short queue that wasn’t moving, food was absolutely delicious and I can’t fault it however I have never been served such a small amount of meat at any carvery, especially on a king size! I overheard other customers unhappy about the amount of meat they were served, Cardiff Gate is much better value for money. Then returned to the table to eat, enjoyed the food, quickly finished my drink but was not offered another one at any point during my visit. We eventually managed to flag down a waitress to order desserts, which came out incorrect 20 minutes later, however this was quickly rectified. Witnessed several customers having to ask a waitress to get a carver from the back, and shockingly saw a carver come out to carve meat for a staff members dinner, then return to the kitchen again leaving customers still queuing. Finally gave up waiting for a waitress to ask for the bill and went up to the bar to pay around 2 hours after we entered. Service from start to finish was lacking, especially at 3pm on a Thursday afternoon. I will stick to Cardiff Gate from now on; I'd hate to further inconvenience these staff."
