"Portrait Gallery is consummate location to show off the city with a amazing view down Whitehall,with glass panelling surrounding the entire restaurant you are blown away by the view as soon as you vacate the lift on to restaurant floor. The Portrait restaurant affords you the relaxed setting to have not only a great view but welcomed conversation with your guests, unlike other restaurants here the environment is mellow rather then usual loud atmosphere of diners either clambering to talk to each other or the waiter. The staff are attentive and yet not over bearing, getting that balance of service and eloquence……..the location is another plus not only do you have one of London’s famous galleries downstairs but not a four minute walk are you from Trafalgar Square, were something is always happening.I decided to visit for breakfast having booked through opentable,where my request for a window table was honoured. "We SO enjoyed our visit last night to Sally Clarke's restaurant it was my first ever time but our host's returning umpteenth experience of this shining gem of an establishment. Having heard endless recommendations and rave reviews, we approached with eager, certainly high expectations. From the sheer courtesy and attention of the staff on arrival to our reluctant departure (was it really? three hours later with joyous hearts and stomachs, we had a ball!! We'll leave you to match our nouns with our sincere and carefully chosen adjectives. Simply massive congratulations from every member of our roundtabled, windowed, party. Each of us is madly in your debit! Our honest impression, experience and treatment? "A very special restaurant with a fabulous view over Trafalgar Square and way beyond. A great menu with vegetation choices. A good wine list, but the bottles start just under £30.00. I made a mistake (and so did others) of leaving my coat and umbrella in the downstairs cloakroom, which closes before the upstairs (floor three), restaurant! I was told my coat and umbrella would be bought up to the restaurant cloakroom later but sadly this did not happen and it was a bit of a farce trying to retrieve my items at the end of the night! It is a little tricky to find floor three where the restaurant is situated. Basically enter through the main entrance, go up the stairs to the first level, walk all the way to the back of the room and you will see lifts at the end that will take you up to the restaurant. Definitely worth the trip but book first as this place gets busy."

"We parked opposite and as you look across at the restaurant in the dark the twinkling lights made it look welcoming. We had a warm greeting, with menus given and our drinks and food order taken promptly. We chose to share the warm breads and Chateaubriand. The breads were scrummy and so warm, felt like they were just out of the oven. And the Chateaubriand was out of this world…..it came with sauces, mac’n’cheese, onion rings, garlic mushrooms, chips and a rocket salad. It was all incredible and will rank as one of our best meals out ever! The service was subtle, friendly and attentive and the playlist was great. Thank you for a really lovely experience."

"I post regional business meetings with more than 20 with regard to our plc companies. the furnished room was enormous as the facilities. we were warmly welcomed and made an appreciated feeling. a really excellent place. I forgot my laptop charger, who was a challenge because I had many dias to present. one of the teams, jordan, ran home to get her personal charger and rescued the day and my bluffs. jordan literally went the 'extra mile'. I cannot express how grateful I am and thank her very much. the whole day was perfect as eating and service. many thanks to the team of white horse for outstanding expectations - we will see them later this year."

"Argh all our food came out within 20 minutes. Thats nibbles, starter and main meal. I couldnt digest it fast enough, so didnt eat all my main. Very dissapointed. Complained to manager who said that he has requested the kitchen to slow down. A bit late for us though! I had the potted squiral for starter and that was lovely. Then hanker steak for main but although i couldnt finish it, it was lovely. Couldnt fault the food, it was really tasty and cooked to perfection. But really could have done with more time between the meals. Im really dissapointed by the service and it ruin our night, as we had hoped that we could spend more time at the chop house, but were finished within 25minutes of arriving. And £70 down. Its quite expensive to dine there so was a treat for me and my hubby."

"Took my parents here at the weekend have been many times before but today was very poor some of the reason for that was they had had a power cut in the morning Right from choosing a table to paying the bill it was disappointing We could have a table in the window as it was ‘booked’ but no one came in our time, the first bottle of wine was unavailable the second took ages to find but was found eventually our starters were lovely but the risotto was bland and very wet the desert was enjoyed by my father Then to cap it all the bill was wrong. On a busy day I could accept that but on this day it was very quiet and although the staff were very nice and doing they’re best they lacked basic knowledge of the menu and wine list which I appreciate is not they’re fault but it annoying Sorry it’s such a bad review but as I love the restaurant normally we will visit again and hope we have a better experience"

"We booked without checking the menu, and didn't realise their main course is build around rotisserie chicken. I don't eat meat, so we opted for some starters and salads with sides a burrata salad with a side of new potatoes for me, and a cesar salad with extra shredded chicken and a side of truffle mac n cheese for hubby. Food was delicious and well presented. Cocotte spritz is nice and refreshing, and they can make a **** mary which isn't on the menu but is very good. It got a bit noisy so if you would like a more private dinner ask for a quiet table, there are a few standalone ones."

"The restaurant is a great spot to enjoy a meal and some drinks. I tried the vegetable lasagna with chips, which was served in a generous portion size. My friends ordered the fish and chips, which were also delicious. The restaurant tends to be busy during lunch and after work hours. The staff and atmosphere are very welcoming. You can easily open a bar tab if needed. The restaurant is spacious and has a new "Barwick Room" that can be reserved for private events and parties."

"We booked for Sunday lunch as there was a vegan option on the menu, when we got there I asked what the dinner consisted of and no one could really tell me, after a bit of back and forth they told me it was basically a plate of vegetables and its The same price as a roast with chicken etc.. I would expect a nut roast or something substantial for that price! The rest of the menu isn't great for a veggie... the pizzas weren't being served but no where stated this. We ended up leaving and going to a different pub. Such a shame as i've wanted to go for some time as its so pretty . Unless they improve their menu we wont be returning"

"I was bought an Activity Superstore voucher for my birthday which gave me an Afternoon tea for two people. We spent the day in Chester prior to going to the hotel and wished we hadn 't bothered. Upon arrival the hotel didn 't look appealing and when we were greeted at reception we were made to feel that the booking had been forgotten about. We were asked to take a seat whilst the reception team member found someone to seat us. We were seated in what can only be called a green house with no ventilation air. We were offered tea or coffee and were told to take a seat. The curtains and table clothes were dirty, the furniture tatty and we felt like we needed a shower when we left. After around 10 minutes, the drinks arrived and we took it upon ourselves to move to a table in the shade. The air conditioning wasn 't working and it was 30 degrees outside. To be fair, the air conditioning looked like it hadn 't been serviced or used in quite some time (my husband works in the HVAC industry) Our food arrived and my heart sank. We weren 't asked or told what the sandwiches included or what the cakes were. The sandwiches were dry, tasteless and half of the crusts remained. We only ate a couple and left the rest. The cakes were okay although what we think might have been a profiterole looking more like a sausage!! The scones were crunchy and we were offered no butter as an option. At no point did anyone ask if we would like another drink (hot or cold) or whether the food was okay. We were in the hotel around 30 minutes before we left very disappointed. Certainly not a place I would recommend or return to."

"The dining experience was disappointing due to the subpar quality of the cooking, which seemed to be on par with that of an amateur home cook. While the menu appeared decent at first glance, the dishes were unimpressively prepared and lacking in creativity. I made a last-minute reservation over a busy long weekend when I learned that my son, his girlfriend, and her parents from Korea would be visiting Chester. Many restaurants were fully booked, but the MB restaurant was nearly empty, which should have been a telling sign. I was looking for a pleasant atmosphere with a view of the garden, and while the Mollington Banastre restaurant overlooks a decent lawn, the hotel itself seemed to be lacking in investment. The front car park was riddled with potholes, leaving a poor first impression. The service was good, the ambiance was fine, and the server who took our drink and meal orders was friendly and efficient. However, the lackluster cooking, both in terms of variety and execution, was a major letdown. Although the restaurant positions itself as mid-range, at £165 for six people (with most only having two courses and no coffee), I left feeling disappointed with the evening overall."

"Great setting, real unique English style pub. Food and table service let it down. Waiting staff operated at their pace, made us feel guilty for asking for something (water, wine) it was difficult to work out who the staff were in the restaurant. On expressing dissatisfaction (incomplete meal, inedible food) we were told no one else had been unhappy with anything that day, no apology. As other reviews menu items not available at peak time. Food was disappointing potato undercooked, meat tough. Such a shame really wanted it to be special occasion. It really could be an exceptional place. No return for us."
