"just fair because we had the Yorkshire plate, it was all kicked. not a sweet, only a potato fritter (can be somewhere cheese,) two crab cakes again not very delicious, a very small fish goujon in the teig with a small part of chips, and a deep roasted scotchei. none of them was great, and was served with four pots of Mayo/Cutney to give him a taste."

We visit the Carpenters at least monthly and during this visit the standards were consistently high with very good food and service in great surroundings

Delicious food at a very reasonable price compared to similar local restaurants. 5 star service, superb menu. There's nothing to dislike here (and believe me, I'm picky)

it was our jubilee and we had this closed and it was beautiful, cooked to perfection, a little more expensive but worth it. very nice village and would highly recommend m. View menu

I have friends. the risotto was cold, watery and tasteless. the fish and chips were not on their normal standard. does not know what fish it was, but the texture was not beautiful. ,

Very good food as per usual, fast and friendly service! However there was a very loud pre wedding party in smashing glasses and singing, thankfully our table was far enough away it didn’t effect us too much

Always a pleasure to visit this establishment a blend of good food, accommodation (which I don't sample living locally) and atmospheric village pub. Good food, reasonably priced and service which is friendly, and attentive without being intrusive. View menu

We celebrated our Anniversary at this restaurant and ordered the chateaubriand. It was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Although it was a bit more expensive, it was definitely worth it. The village itself is very pretty and I would highly recommend this restaurant.

We're regulars but haven't been able to visit for some time because we moved to York. It was truly lovely to return and, if anything, the quality of the food and service was better than ever. The menu seemed to be more accessible too with something for everyone and to suit every budget. We'll be back as soon as we can.

"We arrived here for a 2 night stay for a wedding (Fri sat night). PROS: Lynsey the manageress she 100% makes it so fabulous. Lovely, welcoming, looked after us brilliantly. Due to some staff shortages, she was doing what seemed like 10 jobs at once! We ate on one of the nights food was delicious! Great service tasty food. Breakfast was also spot on set us up brilliantly for the day ahead on the Saturday! The Willow room which we stayed in was fab ideal size, lovely cosy too! The whole 2 night stay was extremely reasonably priced the place itself has a great feel about it like a big cosy house! CONS: If you like total darkness, take an eye mask for sleeping as the rooms can get really bright from the early hours. Also, depending on the room, it’s on quite a busy road so can be quite nosy it would be worth having earplugs if you like a quiet surrounding. Due to staffing, the bar doesn’t stay open that late, so be mindful of this, they will however put drinks in your room if you can’t make it back in time for the bar closing. Taxis there are no local taxis, so arranging transport to the wedding we were attending was a nightmare which we didn’t account for! Luckily after 6 different phone calls, we managed to get sorted. The only gripe I had was the confusion over the bill if you decide to charge things to your room, the bills aren’t itemised so it’s difficult to keep track of what has been charged. There was some confusion on checkout over what we should shouldn’t have been charged for, so definitely choose to pay for any extras outright to avoid any confusion or uncertainty before check out. Other than that, it was one of the nicest, most personal stays we’ve had out in a long long time. This was mainly down to the Manageress Lynsey who is fabulous at her job really does make it feel like home makes you feel super welcomed relaxed. Thank you lynsey for really making a stay a one to remember."
