"rebooked the garden space in the dormy house during the stay near the fish hotel. the environment was very warm and welcoming, and overall eating was very good. but the service was lacking and made us confused by reconciliation. In view of the thoughtful and extensive weinlist we could see one of our favourite mixes from South Africa on the menu. after ordering, and about 15 minutes later, the server back to say there was a mistake, and they put the wrong varietal on the list and wanted to serve us a completely différent wein from this manufacturer. we ordered another bottle in harmony with the food we ordered. but our appetizers came before our wine. wait another 15 minutes (we are now 30 minutes in our dinner without wine) and the waiter comes with another bottle saying that they have lost our bottle, but for us to drink this while we wait. no explanation and not even the wine she poured. that was the last thing we saw from our waiter, because somehow the room was busy and she took the other guests for the rest of the night. we finally got our wee who was brought to the table without the cork. strange practice to get a restaurant of this caliber. when we finished our dessert, we fought for 20 minutes to get every server to recognize us or to delete our records. So we went to the server station to ask for the bill. we have observed our server work at least seven different tabs before we had to go up a second time. when the bill came, the server did not even ask us how our dinner was. we gave our credit card and the other server took it away. she returned 10 minutes later to say that she lost the connection. she gave us the card back and canceled the processing statement and said she couldn't charge our card. she did not know what to do and asked if we were with him at the reception (even if we were not guests of the hotel) will not return."

"Rebooked the garden room at the Dormy House while staying nearby at the Fish Hotel. The setting was very warm and inviting, and overall the food was very good. However, the service was severely lacking and left us bewildered by the exoerience. Given the thoughtful and extensive wine list, we were delighted to see one of our favourite blends from South Africa on the menu. After ordering, and about 15 minutes later, the server returned to say there was an error and they put the wrong varietal on the list and wanted to serve us a completely différent wine from that producer. "I was very excited to visit this restaurant after the canary wharf display. but I was quite underestimated by all the experience. I had booked the online £20 2 cursor menu plus a cocktail. when we arrived there, none of the employees seemed to know the least I had booked this offer. they seemed a little uncertain what was to be done, and it felt something like we were fed for ourselves. we had to ask several times what the cocktail was and also the set menu was very limited. (on the website will not show them what the set menu is.) we had to wait a long time for our eating, and when it arrived, it was warm and not hot as they would expect. also my friend, who ordered the fish, was very disappointed by the tiny part she was given and had to order a shell of clobig chips to go with him as it came with very little. the puddings were really nice, and almost for the night when I'm honest. I think the biggest disappointment for me was the place, it just didn't have the wow factor for me. I expected butlers wharf chop house or plateau, but it was very minimal and strong and had no warm atmosphere at all. the personal was friendly, and tried her best, but something has not quite come with this place and the price of the meal. I don't think I'd get in there if there are so many other restaurants to choose from."

We tried a variety of dishes and each one was bursting with flavor. The restaurant had a great selection of wines and cocktails as well. "The restaurant has a cozy Art Deco feel and an entrance area flows into a rustic barn for the main seating. There is also an upstairs overflow for larger groups. The service was attentive and polite without being too interruptive. The food was exquisitely prepared and presented but large appetites may require all three courses. We shared a pigeon and beetroot starter and chocolate marquise dessert with coffee ice cream and had two mains of chicken and venison in a jus with potatoes and a few veggies, which was sufficient for our smaller needs. The beers are averagely priced but the wines are a little more expensive, in line with the food, which still represents good value given the attention to detail, quality and ambience. From around 8.15 pm an acoustic guitarist played mellow tunes in the background. The songs rose in popularity as the evening unfolded with the audience applauding every number by the time they were into their second bottle of wine! A top restaurant for an occasion or a special night out."

"The restaurant of the pilgrim 's hotel is your typical, friendly, neutral, on the posh side restaurant. So I was surprised to find a clearly indicated vegan option on their menu Pilgrim 's Pie a light, nice veggie dish. In addition the staff was incredibly forthcoming, even giving me advice on which kind of beers and ciders were suitable for vegans without me even asking at all ! I didn 't get the impression that they are used to getting a lot of vegan customers but they were really considerate. I would definitely recommend this place for going out with people that eat everything read: I went here with my mother ."

"We used this venue a couole of weeks ago for a birthday dinner in the private dining room. The food was fantastic until we realised that the allergens had not been disclosed correctly and my aunt who is gluten intolerant was given the wrong meal. The wait staff were totally apologetic and luckily my aunt had not eaten too much of the meal however what was more concerning was when I was speaking to the manager I was rudely interpreted by a gentleman asking me “what my problem was”. The manager looked extremely nervous and explained this man was actually the owner of the venue. I explained the situation to him to which he replied with a raised voice “it’s sorted now isn’t it, why are you out here moaning and making me look stupid”. I was that taken aback that I just left and went back to the dining room and carried on as to not ruin my grandmother’s birthday however I felt it important to let people know as I will not be returning and will be encouraging friends and family not to dine there due to the possibility of ever having to encounter such bad behaviour whilst being paying customers."

"I must say, I was so disappointed with my visit to Fredricks. My friend and I went for afternoon tea and were really looking forward to it. But we both found the experience really disappointing. Firstly the afternoon tea cakes looked nothing like the advert, nowhere near as fancy. The scones were lovely but we only had about a couple of tablespoons of cream between the two of us which wasn’t enough! The chap who initially gave us our tea was lovely but then once he had gone we didn’t see a soul. There was no one coming to check if we were ok or needed refills. I ended up drinking cold tea and my friend who had a coffee had nothing once that was finished. It wasn’t until we were practically finished that someone else came to have afternoon tea that we could actually grab someone to ask them for a refill! The ambiance of the afternoon tea was awful. Initially there was lovely music in the background but after about 15 mins it was turned off and we were left in silence. All we could hear were staff in the next room shouting to each other about something or other. There was no atmosphere at all and we actually felt like we shouldn’t be there! I’ve been to a number of afternoon teas and this was by far the worst one I have had. However this was my friends first afternoon tea and we thought that Fredricks would be fabulous for a first time tea..... but she was so disappointed! I felt really bad for her! : I don’t think I would come again."

"It was a birthday treat to be taken here. Haven 't been for many years as it had a reputation for good food, but sky high prices. My experience, though, was of excellent restaurant, with good service; not pushy or slow, but attentive and efficient. Lovely ambience, not trying to hard, clean, and elegant. The 'tasters ' at the start were delightful... really did wake up the taste buds! Wine was OK, and the starters prompt and delicious smoked eel and pork belly not an obvious combination but scrummy. My main T bone pork beautifully cooked and the accompanying date chutney perfect! Partner had pork fillet, and tender and light it was. The pre pudding Q was quirky but as a palate cleanser, ideal. We only had room for a shared pudding... Rhubarb and Custard in a unique display. Yum! The bill? Palatable!!!"

"We went to Cockcliffe Hotel on a Tuesday noon for my men's birthdays with 2 friends. The place is clean, but quite shottig run down in need of a lot of tlc. We arrived at 12.30 for a pre-booked lunch. There was no one at the reception, but we just waited a few minutes before a young lady appeared to us at the restaurant that was empty at that point. She was very attentive; Take coats, bring menus, etc. After reading on review pages that people have enjoyed lunch menus we were disappointed to discover that there is only the a la carte menu available, and not many choice on this. We had no appetizers than, from the 4 elections, there was nothing we fascinated. There were 4 or 5 choices of the main meal our selected main meal after approx. 15-20 minutes, with which 2 more couples had arrived. I had salmon, the other three in our party had the chicken cake. There were no vegetables or potatoes with the cakes, these had to be bought separately for £2.50 per. My salmon came with a selection of vegetable potatoes. The whole food was delicious: hot, perfectly cooked and, although it didn't seem to be much on the plates with the cakes (the home made full filling, and came in individual dishes) there was enough for my companions along with the additional dishes of frits they had ordered. If they had been big eaters, they should have ordered vegetable dishes. None of us loved the bad selection of sweets offered. Overall for the 4 of us for a 1 course meal, bottle of wine 2 beers we paid £65.0. Although we all enjoyed what we had, I will not come back until the place was decorated, the menu has a better choice, so unfortunately I could not recommend Cockcliffe Hotel currently."
