"The first time we went we age from the lunch menu with the 3 courses for £18 option I really enjoyed my starter, the short rib had a beautiful barbecue taste and the pickeled mustard seeds added a fantastic texture and a beautifuly sharp contrast to the meat. I felt like the crispy shallots didn't add much other than texture, maybe more would've helped. Presentation wise I loved the jar the ribs came in For the main course at @alstonmanchestr I opted the Tweed Valley 250g rump steak which was served with garlic butter and fries on the side. The rump was a £3 surcharge to the set menu, I could've had a flat iron steak for no extra charge but I couldn't do that to myself. The steak was so perfect, I asked for mine rare which did not disappoint. The meat was thick and tasty. I enjoyed the fries but I would've preferred chips, also if I wasn't having 3 courses I would've grabbed some veg on the side. For Dessert I enjoyed Dark berries and gin tart with almond ice cream. This was a great end to my meal, the gin undertoned the sharp Berry flavours and wasn't overpowering. The pastry was firm and sweet. and I enjoyed the dessicated almond on the ice cream provided a nice texture. Our second visit we ate in the evening from the a la carte Starter Courgette and corn fritters with chilli tzatziki did not disappoint, they smelt very aromatic and were nice and crispy. The flavours were great but the main event had to be the chilli tzatziki underneath, it tasted incredible Main I had decided a few days before that I deserved a T bone as it had been a while since I had one. This one was 500g and served with either chips, mash or veg, and a choice of sauce. I opted for chips and I decided to try the bone marrow butter which did not disappoint. All the Tweed Valley steaks at Alston are hand selected by a master butcher from the best cattle that's been fed grass and barley My steak, served rare, was perfect and in true T bone fashion got less cooked in the center so I was pretty much eating a live cow..mmmmm. The seasoning on the seared meat was gorgeous and with that bone marrow butter spread on it was taken to a next level"

"I have to say the worst experience in a pub I never ever complain but at £20 almost a roast dinner the quality is low , I have been in the hospitality industry for more 20 years running some of capitals best restaurant as a chef , restaurant owner and consultant , this dinner cost was less than £3 to produce , I had a carrot whole which was under cooked and almost raw , instant gravy , and meat that was so bad that a frozen roast dinner quality was better. I don’t understand why cabbage is on a roast. After consulting on successful pubs myself the service was terrible, was seated with my family at 6.30pm, no one came for half an hour , the dining room was only 10 tables , was watching the three young girls around the EPOS station , playing with there mobiles for half an hour until we were spotted. I would say the roast I had today quality would be ok if I paid £10 but the truth of the matter is if your going to sell food at a higher price the quality needs to be there, meaning more roast vegetables, green vegetables , proper meat jus and good slice of pink beef and great Yorkshire pudding and great service too. I went to this pub before COVID it was pricy but the quality of the meal was there , seems covid has destroyed the hospitality industry, at no point should a waiter be rude to a customer this was the case on my visit to this pub, and just to note I didn’t. Ask for a refund I paid the full price of this shocking meal and service as you can see it’s over £100 for something that should be a fraction, as a person who know what they are talking about I would never return to this establishment not because of the food but the rude service people who took no responsibility for there actions."

"I have often visited Anthologist with clients and team events (Christmas parties_ and always enjoyed your service and bar facilities. However, I would like to address what I believe to be a one-off event from last night, and I am sure it won’t happen again as I think you have higher standards than this. After spending hours last night as a customer until close, we wanted to use the toilet facilities as one of your last customers. You (the supervisor) informed us it was closed. As a customer, I asked why when we were still around. You said it takes a while to do and wanted a head start. During this conversation, your staff member shouted, “What’s wrong with you guys? Are you crazy? Just leave!” Something along these lines. Apologies if it doesn’t match word to word. As someone who has not only been a customer with you for years, brought clients to your venue, had Christmas parties with you, worked in Retail customer service, and, most importantly, brought business all night by spending with my friends in your bar, this is unacceptable customer service. I am sure that specific individual may have had a bay day, a difficult customer, or something else that triggered this. I understand this happens. I speak from experience. However, there is a way to communicate and handle things despite not being in the best state of mind. This behaviour does not reflect the team because you have fantastic staff members. Please provide feedback to your colleague and provide coaching on customer service. I’m sure you will not let this happen again as I believe such is your standard."

"It’s our (very) local pub and has undergone several reincarnations in recent years. The new managers/owners look to be putting a lot of work into it and we have had a good report. So thought we’d give it a try for lunch as the signs say food served from 12:30 The first thing to notice is that it looks and feels cosier inside than it ever has although the Christmas decorations may have helped. A log fire being lit would have been the icing on the cake for me personally. The sole lady member of staff was very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately lunch was a tad disappointing. The Christmas Menu was referred to but was apparently roasts only and to be honest it wasn’t clear if it was available or not. It seemed that burger and chips was the only thing on offer. Not what we’d anticipated or expected but thought we’d give it a try, as let’s face it, you can’t beat a good burger and chips. Unfortunately we didn’t get one. Supposedly we should have had coleslaw (I say supposedly as we’d not actually seen a menu) but this was unavailable so we had cheese added to the burger instead. Not a problem though. Portion size was OK. The chips were great. The burger itself, sad to say, was average at best. Having seen no menu and therefore no food prices we don’t know what the burgers cost, only what the food and drinks together cost. Overall, given the quality of it I’d say the price slipped in somewhere between ‘slightly dear’ and ‘about right’ So, first impressions of the “new” Green Dragon? Definitely worth returning for a drink for the coziness and friendliness, but the food needs to be sorted out both in terms of what is actually available, visible menus, and more importantly, quality. It’s a shame as we so wanted our inaugural visit to the pub in it’s current guise to be a perfect one. As the food was the main reason for visiting I’m afraid it’s got to lose a couple of dots on the rating"
