"We made a reservation through Groupon for Sunday lunch for four at this hotel, even though we are local residents and had never been there before. The hotel has a 4-star rating, so we thought it would be a good opportunity to try something new. However, we were disappointed with our experience. The dining room did not meet our expectations - the tables did not have tablecloths as shown in the website photos, and some had linen napkins while others had cheap paper napkins. Despite booking in advance and mentioning it was my daughter's 12th birthday, no table had been prepared for us. The menu was just an A4 paper, which is not what we would expect from a 4-star establishment. There was no drinks menu available, so we had to make do with what was offered. The food was mediocre at best - my husband's beer was described as stale, my pate was served with poor quality bread and not enough onion jam, and the prawn cocktail was average. The roast dinners were also disappointing, with poorly cooked potatoes and frozen vegetables. Dessert options were limited, and the lemon tart we chose was unremarkable. The lack of tea or coffee offered was also disappointing. Overall, the service and quality of the food need improvement before we would consider returning. It is a shame to leave such a negative review, but the owners should take note and make necessary changes to attract more customers. Additionally, having a consistent standard across all tables, providing better quality ingredients, and improving service would eliminate the need to rely on Groupon for business. The potential is there for this hotel to be a great dining destination, but changes need to be made."

"Outrageous expensive Sandwich and fries. Ordered as per request from QR code on the table. I ordered tomato and cheese with fries and a pint of Camden. What arrives was a very sorrowful thin granary sandwich with what looked liked ready made chive and cheese mush. Then to be told the QR code was wrong for this pub and they guessed , did it have Camden so offered Peroni. My wife had fish fingers on Brioche with chips in included at £10.95 far more value than the miserable wrong sandwich that was supplied at £8.45 plus fries at £3.95. The more I write the more angrier I find myself. The staff apologised that it was the system. As one has already paid via the QR code, you have already paid your money before seeing the food. Absolute miserable, far better value down the road at the riverside cafe in Bensons, much better place and food value excellent. This is an outrageous ripoff for this sandwich. I should also add that the Bill you are invoiced by Email doesn’t add up. It’s beyond me no matter how I interpret the vat on drinks and food which were both matched as 20%. Avoid there are far better value places. Maybe if my dissatisfaction at the time that I shared with the waiters was not so care freely ignored and unaddressed I could have been placated. That being said if the right sandwich had turned up it probably would have been woefully miserable . Food drinks: Outrageous expensive Sandwich and fries. "Booked for New Year's Eve. £69.99 per head. Service adequate but I have to say the food was not good. Pre prepared and not fresh. The amuse bouche was a piece of French bread with smoke salmon, more like a badly done canape. The Starters were accompanied by limp salad, the plates they were served on very cold evidencing they had just been sitting uncovered in a fridge. Very odd rock hard goat's cheese, and for others, 3 tiny pieces of dry sardine. As for the main, beef wellington, the fillet of beef overcooked and resembled a piece of shoe leather, I doubted it was even fillet. The pastry was raw on the inside and undercooked, and soggy on the outside. Think had been pre cooked and microwaved. Worst beef wellington I have ever seen. We all sent back and chef offered rack of lamb.Sadly this was presented raw, not rare, with huge chunks of broccoli, soggy roast potatoes and carrots. Those who ate fish said was adequate, but the spinach and ricotta filo main had by one was also raw and underdone. As for the apple tart, again some received ice cold from the fridge, others luke warm although the flavour was good. Actually spoilt New Year's Eve and we left hungry. What was even more annoying is that I believe we were not charged for 2 bottles of wine, but were expected to pay for the nasty food. I would rather have paid for the £60 wine. I will be contacting the restaurant owner for a full refund, minus the wine. I can't believe we were actually charged £75 a head for the meal, pretty disgraceful in my opinion. We actually doubted whether there was a chef in the kitchen......"
