"very attentive and charming staff that felt comfortable and welcome. we had the escaping almost for ourselves and eating and drinking came as a result quickly. the portions were generous. the menu had suitable for vegan products it was good to see several options on the menu for people with specific nutritional requirements. In order to improve the experiences in the future, fresh ingredients (e.g. in the seafood linguins that seemed to be frozen) would be preferred, but given the current circumstances after the lock and at the end of the summer season the lack of fresh ingredients is understandable. the pub is located on the opposite side of the hotel lobby from the restaurant and worked much cosier due to the warmer lighting, the unhindered windows and the general unfussy decoration. the restaurant in which we ate was quite “cold” (not in the ambient temperature, but in the atmosphere) with a very blue palette of decoration and surfaces, and with the blinds and thick curtains the half over the windows. making more of the available sunlight or adding some attractive internal lighting would make a welcome difference here. the procedure for payment of the meal should be checked. I'm sure it made practically sense to collect card payments in the cash, but it felt quite strange in a world where we are so used to serving personal also in the position to collect payments. all in all, I would expect all the dunes to enjoy a simple, square meal that could not be the paragon of English cuisine, but will surely silence every starving in a attentive environment."

"I received an email the day of my event sent at 4.20pm but not seen by me until 6pm informing me that our food would be delivered between 5 and half past rather than the arranged 6.30pm due to adverse weather conditions. The venue had NOTHING to do with our event. It is a private function room. The tables for the buffet were not set up ready to receive when the food was delivered at 5.15pm which is the time venue bar staff told us it was delivered. (The catering owner states it was actually 5.45pm) My staff member arrived at 6pm to set up the trestle tables and the food had already arrived. She then set up the tables and when I arrived we had to move all the food over to where it should be. In my opinion the catering shed should have called the venue and got the number for the organiser (me) and contacted me directly. Better yet they should have taken a contact number in the first place. We could then have arranged to receive and refrigerate at my Nursery up the road. It’s completely unacceptable even had the food been perfect to deliver 1.5 hours earlier than expected without proper communication. But sadly the food was far from perfect. I sent an email on 17th November stating ‘Paid with thanks. Can I just check a few things please. I know I just said NO NUTS but also please no orange or rosemary unlikely as they are anyway. I know there will be candied peel in mince pies and just that is ok.’ Owner replied on 23rd…6 days later (which is a recurring theme-2 days maximum for a business reply is acceptable in my humble opinion) ‘Received your payment with thanks. I have also made notes of your requests.’ Obviously she hadn’t made a note. Because I opened the ‘Deluxe Cheese Platter’ and was smacked in the face with orange smell which made me vomit. (It’s my allergy which triggers vomiting and migraine) Now who puts Orange halves in with cheese…especially SOFT cheese which will soak up the orange flavour?! Especially when you’ve been specifically asked not to use oranges due to an allergy. The whole cheese board was then off limits to me. The owner has replied to my complaints basically stating that nobody else has complained and implying it must be my staff with dodgy palates . Going so far as to reference an email I’d sent saying some of my staff are ‘fussy buggers’ which was actually in regards to the festive menu items that I missed off and replaced with bespoke alternatives I requested. Funnily enough it was the basic items that were unacceptable: Cheese Onion Rolls had barely any filling and were dry. Pizza was dry and hard. Spring rolls were soggy. The chicken sandwiches had no butter or spread as requested. The tuna and egg sandwiches however appeared to have some sort of spread on and were brought to me by staff who then said they couldn’t eat them. The owner maintains no spread was used which if true then I don’t know what the problem was. I couldn’t tell either way but I only ate 1 of each as I personally found them bland and flavour less. I was hoping to receive a partial refund of 50%, not use them again and say no more about it. We’re talking £450 worth of food! So half back for all these issues is not unreasonable given our first post covid staff gathering was ruined. I’m very disappointed that the owner is not taking any responsibility or taking on board the negative feedback on the food. She has refused any form of refund with the exception of £10 to compensate for missing banqueting roll! AVOID"

"I have wanted to go to Homeslice for some time now, after seeing the size of huge slices from fellow bloggers on Instagram. This week, a last minute impromptu dinner date landed me here and I honestly cannot believe I haven’t been before. Stepping inside you’re greeted by a burning furnace of fire, their massive wood-fired oven. Stupidly, we decided to sit at the bar right in front of this beast. Two cold pints of beer were ordered to try and stop my face from reflecting a pizza slice and melting on the bar. The menu offers a range of different pizza toppings, and you can order three of the pizzas by slice for £4. A whole pizza will set you back £20, but trust me when you see the size of these bad boys you’ll realise the price is reasonable. A whole pizza is big enough to share between two people and you can choose two toppings and do half and half. Normally I’m a big peperoni fan, they do have a salami option and it did look pretty tasty. However, I was feeling daring, so opted for something a little different. We went for half and half and had the aubergine, cauliflower cheese, spinach and harissa and oxtail, watercress, horseradish and sorrel cream toppings. Aubergine and cauliflower cheese had a delicious sauce, cheesy and creamy. If you like a good savoury mouthful this is the one for you. The aubergine gave an added texture with the harissa giving a smoky, yet subtle kick. The oxtail had a lovely tomato base and the meat itself gave a nice depth of flavour to each bite. I’m not a fan of horseradish, so wasn’t sure what it would taste like with sorrel as a cream. It was extremely good and not overpowering and cleansing to the palate. The pizza here is colossal! Each slice was bigger than my head, the dough was salty, but in a really good way, not too much. The fact that they sell by the slice is a great idea. If I was drunk and fortunate enough to stumble across Homeslice, I’d be a very happy drunk person. I think this is possibly the best pizza in London. Anyone in disagreement, please feel free to contact me. Homeslice has a buzzy and good vibe about the place, but very chilled and relaxed. It is a great place to hang out with friends, sup some beer and demolish pizza. The waiting team were all extremely friendly and it’s cool to be able to watch your pizza get made right in front of you. If you like pizza, lots of pizza, then you need to get your teenage mutant turtle bums down here!"
