"The food was delicious, the flavours, textures and portions were perfect. I had the duck to start (run don't walk), the pork main (WOW) and the apple and treacle tart to finish. My partner and I both had the pork belly which was melt in the mouth good, the combination of flavours from the pumpkin, butternut squash and the sauce were heavenly. The service was exceptional, Olivia and Emily were friendly and checked in on us enough to know we were being looked after without intruding on our meal. It's a small restaurant (approx 7 tables), the atmosphere was the perfect blend of busy but not crowded, with compliments to the chef floating in the air. We'll definitely be booking in advance (you have to) the next time we come to Whitby. "My friend and I were walking the Coast to Coast trail from St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay for charity. Covering a distance of 192 miles, it was no easy feat. On our last day, June 4th, with approximately 3 miles to go and no options for breakfast along the way, we decided to stop at the Coast Cafe for a bite to eat as we were both famished. Arriving at 2:50pm, my friend requested a cheese and bacon burger only to be told that the kitchen was closing at 3:30pm and they were no longer serving food. We asked if we could at least get some coffee, to which they obliged. I noticed two sausage rolls on display and asked for them to be heated up. The server, who seemed disinterested and unwilling to assist, handed them to me cold. When I inquired if they could be heated, she reluctantly put them in the microwave for 30 seconds, barely warming them up. At this point, we decided to give up as we were exhausted from the 13 days of walking. The server could definitely benefit from some lessons in customer service. Sorry for the rant, but our experience at the Coast Cafe was far from satisfactory."

"Breakfast was ok, my partner's toast was untoasted, he asked for toasted toast and they only brought 1 slice, seemed a bit stingy to not replace both slices. The rest of his breakfast was good. I asked for 3 items from extras menu as I have dietary limitations, they charged me £11 and the scrambled egg wasn't good at all, bland and watery, I just hope it wasn't made with milk as I'd informed them I was lactose intolerant. When I queried the £11 charge they said they'd charged me for bread which I didn't have so did refund me £1.50. Staff were lovely and the place had a nice relaxed vibe. Probably a nice place for coffee and cake as the lattes were fine and the cakes looked nice, but from my experience expensive for the quality and portions."

"Can't rate this place enough. Visited for breakfast and easily catered for two coeliacs and one vegetarian. Absolutely blown away by the menu choices for gluten free. Food was astounding. Staff were brilliant, friendly and fun. Thank you so much. Vegetarian options: Easily accommodate vegetarian and vegan diets. Lots of choices. "Booked for an overnight stay as visiting Whitby. Nice place, staff really friendly and welcoming. Room was lovely, only small but is fine for a one or 2 night stay. Large bathroom with nice bath but could do with a shower too. There was an electric heater that did take quite a while to warm the room up so could do with being put on 2-3 hours before check-in. Bathroom had a radiator and a heated towel rail so we tried leaving the door open for the warmth to circulate but there was a draft so that didn't work I think there's a crack in the bathroom window which probably should be looked at ! Slept fine, it's a double bed but we're used to a king size so seemed a little on the small side. We ate in the restaurant, we had a table near the bar which was very busy, but the food was really nice, the portions are HUGE, I probably left just as much as I ate which was a shame really ! Breakfast was included, there was a selection of cereals and orange juice. Cooked breakfast orders were taken at the table along with coffee/tea orders. Hubby opted for the Full English and I had the Veggie, both nice. Breakfast was served in a separate dining room to where we ate the evening before. Free parking is available but it is quite limited. There is road parking but it's a country lane so not a huge amount of space. We walked into Whitby, took about 30 minutes and then got a taxi back which was £9.00."
