"My husband and I visited for dinner last week. My husband has been working in the area for 3 months and has been totally disappointed with the selection of food available - UNTIL NOW!! This is an amazing place, tucked away, gorgeous food, lovely people and a great atmosphere. My husband had the 3 course menu, which included snails which were very artfully displayed in individual pots on a slate board, which would easily be at home in a UK Gastro restaurant.I am Vegetarian, which is always a challenge in France, but was no problem here and my 3 courses were the best I've had anywhere for a long time. Thecheese board was to die for, with more than 20 cheeses to choose from, could pick as many as you wanted! An abolute 1st class place, we will be back.I would book, and they are open Wednesday to Sunday."

At a very nice place, calm and with charm. The food is of reasonable quality, not outstanding. The service was - when we were there - a little bit grumpy - despite our perfect French - and could be a little bit more gay. But it was on the whole acceptable for a nice evening.

We were in a group of 10 and friends had previously visited and rated this restaurant. Good food, very well presented in a great setting and environment. An interesting and varied menu. One of the better meals I've had in France. With wine and drinks it came to about Euros 45 per head.

We have eaten at Au Clos Gourmand several times now. The food has always been excellent - whether choosing from the lower or higher-priced menus. Clearly high-quality ingredients, always imaginatively combined and presented. One always receives a warm welcome, and dining on the outside terrace is a particular delight on summer evenings. Highly recommended. Be warned that despite being in the middle of nowhere, reservations are advisable at weekends. It's a popular place! View menu

Tucked away in the middle of nowhere a restaurant of exquisite food. One of the best meals I have eaten in ages in France. I ate snails in individual little pots with pastry lids followed by a whole magret of duck, done to perfection, with a timbal of diced and shredded vegetables. My husband had peppers stuffed with a tartare of magret duck followed by cod on a bed of ratatouille. Exquisite flavours quaffed with a delicious local white wine. Service was friendly and helpful. Absolutely worth a detour if you are anywhere between La Rochelle and Poitiers!

We went here for my birthday at lunch time last Sunday as a family of four with our sons (aged 2 and 3). It was one of the most delightful meals I have had in a long time. Great menu, delicious food, fabulous waitress whose English was amazing and yet was gracious enough to ask whether I would prefer to speak in French to her. We managed a table outside and they helped move the parasols to keep the kids in the shade, the tuna steak was the nicest I have ever had and the cheese board was a real pick what you like. Children's menu was good and they allowed us to split the generous portion between the two kids. I was thrilled to find this gem and would urge anyone to visit.

We were ten adults and two babies under 1 for lunch .They were great and could speak English well . so helped my very poor French .It's not easy with my Mob , all like different things , tried to get them to try things but it's like poisoning them .They were very helpful and accommodating and it was a great meal . All very help with food and that's a result .You will have to book . They are in the middle of nowhere but great quality, nice environment ,great service. Watch for signs as its down a small lane. It's a little up market but you get what you pay for and the locals said it's great all the time.We will go back this holiday . Me and the wife for evening meal as its romantic and I need... We went on the recommendation of the gite owners. About a 15 minute drive from Surgeres but well worth it. Beautiful setting, although a cool evening dictated that we ate inside rather than on the lovely terrace. The menu is quite limited but varied enough to cater for most tastes. We had the gourmet menu - 4 courses including cheese for EUR38. Each course was beautifully presented and a well priced wine list to accompany it that included a good range of 1/2 bottles. I think we were the only English guests but made to feel very welcome. Our limited grasp of French was assisted through food & wine choices by the very nice waitress who spoke very good English. This will probably end up being a...

This restaurant is not to be missed, my husband and I have eaten here many times over the past 4 years and it is always excellent, the food is georgeous, with great attention to detail and excellent friendly service. We cannot fault the place, it's just such a gem.My mother-in-law is gluten intolerant and we took her to the resturant she was obviously nervous, having just been diagnosed but they could not have done enough for her making her meal and whole dining experience a pleasure, she nearly did not come away with us as she had worked herself into a tiz over the food situation, which would have been such a shame for all of us.It is well worth a visit, but I would recommend making a reser...
