"We were staying in Crakehall so this pub was on the doorstep. My partner had booked a table for 7pm and asked for a bottle of wine to be on the table as a surprise. They didn’t disappoint. When we arrived we were shown to our table which was in the bay window, looking out at the wonderful greenery with a bottle of wine waiting, it was perfect. I am coeliac so eating out can be a struggle. However, the owner came and sat with us and talked through the menu options for me. He explained he had changed the oil that day so it was fresh and safe for the chips. He had saved a gammon steak as my choice was limited so wanted to give me more to choose from. I went for the gammon and my partner went for the chicken curry. It was great food. The atmosphere was very family orientated. We couldn’t have asked for anything better, it was perfect, thank-you!"

Really nice, proper local country pub. Brilliant home made food, simple but perfect menu, brilliant with our excitable puppy. Would recommend and will definitely be back.

Very fortunate to have found The Bay Horse following a bad experience at another pub in in Bedale. Lovely meal and great service at a very reasonable price. The owner and staff could not have been more accommodating and friendly and our the dogs were very welcome.

Dropped in for lunch and was not disappointed. I had liver onions, hand cut chips peas . Hubby had gammon, with free range eggs , Hand cut chips peas . Owner very friendly . Situated opposite a village green. Nice for kids to play out . Dog friendly . Theme nights and quizzes etc . Can’t wait to return . View menu

After a terrible experience at a nearby pub, we decided to visit this establishment instead. We were pleasantly surprised by how welcoming they were to us and our dogs. The owner was friendly, as were all the patrons, and the food was delicious. We would highly recommend this pub and will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you.

During our holiday stay nearby, we decided to have our dinner at this restaurant. The food was homemade, reasonably priced, and absolutely delicious. My husband ordered a large locally sourced gammon, egg, and chips, while I opted for the chili con carne. Both dishes were yummy. Unfortunately, we were too full to try the homemade desserts.

During our stay in a holiday home nearby, we visited this charming pub just a short walk away. Although we didn't dine there, we stopped in a few times over the weekend. The landlord, Bri, was exceptionally welcoming, even accommodating our group of 8 loud women with a VIP table so we could watch the rugby on TV. Our evening of drinks and dancing was fantastic, and all the staff were very friendly. I would highly recommend this lovely pub, especially if you're looking for a lively atmosphere with great regular patrons. View menu

The bar was empty save for one local and the owner sat chatting by the fire, but it was Friday afternoon. I'm aware of a number of positive reviews but we weren't impressed, the owner was friendly and the beer good, however the place needed a good clean. The tables were sticky one was empty but not cleared from a meal. The upholstery was well worn which is not necessarily a problem but it looked like it needed a good clean, perhaps it looks better at night. We were planning to eat but decided against it and went into Northalerton as there is no where else in Crakehall to eat. Nothing that could not be sorted out relativly easily, which was perhaps as dissapointing.

Came with family and 2yr old for Sunday lunch. Exceeded our expectations. Came with great choice of 6 veg, Yorkshire pud, mash potato and gorgeous roast potatoes. Everything was fresh and well cooked, large portions. I’m veggie and puds and roasties cooked in veggie oil so was really pleased I could have everything. Roasties we’re nice and crispy. Traditional desserts: crumble, sticky toffee, ginger sponge or chocolate sponge all delicious. Staff and landlord very friendly. Had a booster seat for child which worked out ideal. As the landlord himself, they’re a pub that does food, not a restaurant. The pub has quite dated interior, not modern, but don’t doubt how amazing the Sunday lunch is!
