"Cafe in the main square, always seemed to have a fair few customers so we thought we'd give it a go. We were waiting quite a while for our drinks to arrive, and were told that there were quite a lot of items not on the menu (having recently sold out due to July 14th celebrations). Our steaks were absolutely delicious, but I had already got a bit concerned that the restaurant wasn't as hygienic as it could have been due to dirty glasses (lipstick) and not the cleanest of cutlery - however it was mainly when I was hearing a nearby couple complaining to the waiter (owner?) about the standard of cleanliness too, along with glass in their dinner that topped it off. It's a shame as I feel like the restaurant has so much potential - their cook is obviously top quality, and some of the junior waiters really looked like they were doing their very best, but overall the place was let down due to attention to detail issues. Having read other reviews since our visit, it makes me wish we had looked at trip advisor first, as there are so many other top quality restaurants around. Definitely a one-off for me, despite the central location."

Loved this place, for the historic old square, and the ambiance and casual good manners of the proprietor. The food was typical fFrench fare, but with a dash of flare, the wine is good and they serve really good local craft beer (we were one of the first to try). To recommend.

The only drawback with this wonderful part of France is a lack of good places to eat. There are several that are just fine, but few with imaginative kitchens. This is a lovely little place, located on period square in the town, and serving very decent food. The lunch choices are good - range from coq au vin (EUR 10) to a good squid dish (EUR 16), adn the dinner menu similar.A very welcome stop on the culinary track of the Aude.

Exceptional service and the food was great! I ordered the Lamb leg and it was delicious! The meat was so tender it fell off the bone! My companions had the Camembert cheese dish and they loved it, I eyed off their plates so much I had to steal some for myself and it tasted as good as it looked!!! I definitely recommend! The building itself it's not on the classy side but it's comfortable and welcoming which we like better anyways!

150% effort from apparent chef, waiter and clearer-upper all rolled into one. Great entrecôte in Roquefort sauce but 90 minutes waiting for it. Good excuse to drink wine waiting tho! Lovely setting at a place which serves simple menu all day, including breakfast. Interesting array of locals all came to sit and sup but I wanted to get up and help poor owner as it seemed to be a one man show here. Made a meal-out a little anxious until we'd drunk so much wine we saw the funny side of it.

The food was simple and the place is cheap. The view over the square is very nice and the atmosphere was sunny and warm. However when my wife went to the lavatory she came straight out. I was certain that she was exagerating but when I went in I was very surprised, It was pretty awful and we were shocked that such standards still exist in restaurants in France (or indeed anywhere!). The poor toilets led me to look at the interior. Also gruibby and uintidy. Totally unacceptable in every way.

Despite the name, this cafe is NOT beside the river. The cafe beside the river is Le Palace. I know that this naming confuses some people - and TripAdvisor still includes two photos of Le Palace under the Cafe du Fleuve listing, even tho I have twice reported those photos as posted to the wrong place. ............ Cafe du Fleuve is very much a French cafe, which perhaps explains why so many locals like it. We still miss some of the dishes which V. used to cook, but M. offers a good range of mostly straight-forward food. And coffee is still 1 euro a cup.

"This little bistro has recently changed hands: a couple of weeks ago I passed by to see it full to the brim which was very good to see as the previous incarnation was tired and not great at all. So yesterday I went for a...lunch, a simple menu of 5 or so starters, mains and puds. I wanted to like it very much but to be blunt, the food was pretty awful. Tomato and Mozzarella was old cheese, icy tomatoes and watery salad that had mixed with the vinaigrette. The main course of Pork in mustard sauce, a classic of cooking. Sadly accompanied by penne pasta which was unseasoned, and unadorned, and some aubergine. It was just not great. How much better it would have been to have mashed or creamed potatoes and perhaps savoy cabbage with bacon, then you would have a classic bistro dish. I had a little conversation with Nathalie as she is the new patronne, and I wished her well, as its a really nice room, her staff were pleasant and it would be really nice to have an alternative to the Galerie which is the best place in town, consistently good though completely different in price and the Plantenet which is also a busy, friendly consistently good enough place. But I fear if this is going to be the standard, her restaurant may struggle. I hate criticizing restaurants because I've done it myself for ten years and its a tough tough business. But you have to at least get the food right. Its not the only thing, ambiance, position, staff, company, many many things go into making a good restaurant. But sadly, the food was mediocre at best. The coffee was awful, watery and poor. With a quarter pichet of Merlot it was 20 Euros. Not at fortune its true, but they need to sort themselves out or this particular re-working of the Cafe au Gare will not last long."
