"Last year, when this was Cafe Cyber de la Gare, we did not eat here because every advertised menu item seemed to be some sort of grilled meat with chips. This year, having seen that the Cyber had been removed from the awning and that Chez Marie-Claude had been added to the name on TripAdvisor, we decided to have lunch there. There is a three course menu for 15.70 Given that desserts are usually unsuitable for my dairy-free husband, we opted for just a plat at 10.00. After a quick discussion with the waitress re "produits du lait", my husband chose the liver, bien cuit, and I chose the blanquette de veau. We had time to admire the rustique furnishings and marble-topped bar while listening to and smelling the liver and onions being freshly cooked. My blanqette included some vegetables in the stew and the rice was light and fluffy - the best rice I have had in France. It was lunchtime in France and the protion sizes made for a leisurley meal. We had coffe which was okay, bar-style rather than cafe-style, and a little expensive at 1.45 and 2.90 (with milk). I could not pay with a card (they do not have a terminal). The cashier offered to take a cheque but seemed pleased when I produced argent. She explained to be where the post office was so that I could replenish my cash."

Very French. Interesting food but not your average tourist menu. They typically serve several offal dishes in a homely old style family run restaurant.

This is a functional eatery near the station. Seemed family run and provided adequate but good food. Basic furnishings but seemed popular with local business people.

Truly old fashioned and tasteless food. We all had something different and none of us fished, it really was that bad! Probably the worst restaurant food I've ever had.

Great place to eat in Quillan, modest prices, generous portions Real French cuisine cooked well and Marie-Claude is quite a character. Fresh local seasonal food (I think my trout had still been in the river a few hours earlier!) View menu

I live in the area and we have never had a bad meal here - everything here is home-made on the premises, the menu is not extensive but comprises of a good selection of classic choices. The decor doesn't look like it has been changed since the 1950s and it is the best value for money you'll get in town - love it!

First of all, I have to admit that we only had a drink at the bar, but the place was packed. Very old-fashioned, quirky room with enormous mirrors. Man and wife establishment with lots of old world charm. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and if I ever went back on the 1 euro train from Carcassonne I would definitely try to eat there.

It looks nothing from the outside, and when you step inside its very traditional. You expect Rene from Allo Allo to turn up any moment. Then chef appears and you know in an instant he knows his business. From the homemade mayonnaise to the beautifully sliced king prawns and avocado the presentation is far above what you might have expected on first sight.Follow on with melt in the mouth veal or faux - fillet and green peppercorn sauce. Even the perfect chips will blow your taste buds, and finish off with a crème brulee to die for ! All outstanding value and very inexpensive. View menu

We met for coffee at this Cafe and found Marie-Claude busily preparing piles of fresh asparagus so we decided to book in for dinner that evening. It is a little bit surreal in this place with Marie-Claude busy preparing veg in the cafe, the ironing board is out and the napkins are being ironed, the cat is happily snoozing away, dogs are at everyone's feet and the office/computer area is being used by the various staff. It would never pass any UK food preparation hygiene standards in a month of Sundays however we had an absolutely fabulous dinner. We had starters of fresh asparagus with a fabulous home made mayonnaise or fresh prawns. Bavette cooked to perfection with wonderful French fries,...

Ask anyone in Quillan for their favourite restaurant in the town and the chances are they will tell you to try the Cafe de la Gare. Marie-Claude runs the show, and is often seen sitting in the main restaurant ironing the napkins and tablecloths. She is ably assisted by her brother, who does the cooking and a very friendly waitress. The menu does include offal recipes, as is often the case in good French restaurants. We tried pigs trotters and andouilette - both perfectly cooked. But it also does salt cod dishes, and excellent steak and chips. I had the best lasagne I have eaten for a long time there, excellent crudités and finished off with good, homemade ice cream. The atmosphere was very m...
