"Arrived at Castril thirsty, hungry and desperate to use the toilet. We entered this cafe and asked for food and a drink in our best Spanish only to be told there was no food! We would have accepted this although we were disappointed but all around us were Spanish customers drinking and eating tapas!!! We walked out. Avoid. we found a lovely hotel/ restaurant as you enter town ‘La Fuente’ lovely staff and delicious bocadillos."

View menu

In the centre of Castril with a nice terrace with trees and views this is the perfect spot for a coffee. Service friendly and excellent loves toasted bread with tomato or marmalade for breakfast and good coffee..

Visited at lunchtime but they were not serving food that day for some reason. The waiter kept disappearing inside. Nice little terrace with views of the gorge so we had a drink and then left in search of food. To be fair the empanadillas that came with our drinks were tasty. Just a shame there was nothing else.

"This is a real hidden gem and without exception all our friends we have introduced to this little bar rave about it. It is a lovely small traditional rustic family bar/restaurant, nothing fancy but the food is superb. It is just the sort of place I am always trying to find and rarely do, which makes this place very special. Alfonso, Mari his wife and three daughters run this place and they all take great pride in their work. They are very friendly, welcoming and happy people Now the food, which I have been enjoying for years as it is my local. Where do I start as everything is freshly prepared and beautifully presented. There is a variety of food, not normally found in other bars. I love the Tigres (mussels cooked in their shells with a cheese gratin sauce over the top); the stuffed sardines, the tuna cerviche, smoked salmon carpaccio, scallops in a beautiful sauce with a side orange smoked salmon salad. And then the main courses duck breast served sliced with garnishes, pork solomillo again sliced on a sizzling plate with a mushroom sauce, amazing steaks and venison. There are also lots of tapas to choose from, although Alfonso always serves excellent tapas with all orders of wine and beer. His wines are also excellent. And his coffees are to die for make sure you try his Carajillo and also his Asiatico. Alfonso is very proud of the food he serves and rightly so. Even better everything is excellent value for money. Closed on Mondays."
